that would mean u play for st.arnaud then master of rock, as that is what the draw states. didnt he make a ton against u guys last year?. from what i hear lanne r looking pretty good again this year and will prob push top 3 again. would def wanna get smith out early though as he has only had 1 hit this year and knocked up 91 no doubt a dangerous player wants he gets going. how r st.arnaud looking this year any new recruits?

Lost Dale Pearce, whos got the head job at the Bendigo Senior Secondary College, and Atkinson is leaving half way through.... we have picked up D Walsh, played out Navarre, scored an Unbeaten 53 last week in our win against Colts....very nifty with the gloves too.... also picked up Craig (i think) Newson, new Radiologist in town...still working him out...

the likes of Jib Iglesias, Casey Lang, Danny Wright, Adam Balzan...etc weren't playing saturday.... (we had a halfcut side too though)

DONT by any stretch of the imagination underrate Carisbrook either.

What a long time a week is in Cricket!

A Grade: The semi new-look A Grade side recorded a loss in their first game of the year. Their terrors started from the get go, as Walsh tried to fend off a ‘ripper’ of a first ball, he popped it up, being caught. Unfortunately, from there on, they were unable to recover, with Hando in the end top scoring on 14.

This week, it was different, with Captain Hando winning the toss against last years Runners up, and electing to bowl, aiming to keep Colts Phelans to a gettable total. Vice captain Jason Bergen opened up the bowling, alongside Tom Batters, making his A Grade debut up the other end of the pitch. The St Arnaud bowlers started off very well, keeping the run rate at a minimum. The first wicket fell when Debutant Tom Batters dismissed Hoban, caught in slips by Coloe for 4. Bergen then followed soon after, cleaning up the stumps of Ellis, leaving him walking to the pavilion after 7 runs. Shepherd and Brown were now at the crease, and provided resistance for the Colts, before Lund came on and Dismissed Shepherd in his second over, for 10. Twenty runs later, Brown was dismissed for 27, bowled by Hando. Soon after, Hando knocked over the stumps of Forde, giving him a Double wicket maiden. Showing why he was Club Champion last year. Coloe took his first wicket in just his second ball, after Wyllie hit the ball straight down Newson’s throat, dismissed for 7. as it turns out, Coloe was to get another two wickets, taking his tally to three, and Torin Petrie was to get one also, dismissing youngster M Ellis for 2. Colts were bowled out for 116, with four overs remaining in their innings.

After the tea break, Lachlan Ezard and newcomer Walsh headed out to the crease, with Walsh having his eyes set on making up for the previous week’s performance. St Arnaud started off well, with the first wicket coming in the 7th over, with Lachlan Ezard dismissed, and bowled by Stephens, for 21. James Coloe came to the crease, and he and Walsh dominated the next 21 overs, putting on a 77 run partnership, which took St Arnaud within 13 runs from victory. Coloe was dismissed, after letting an edge through to the wicketkeeper, caught behind for 26 runs. Bruce Hando came to the crease, and saw St Arnaud get over the line, but was soon after dismissed for 2, Caught behind, off the bowling of Stephens. Paul Lund came to the crease, just to have a bit of fun, and that he did, belting a couple of 4’s, before falling LBW to Stephens, not before Walsh chalked up his half century, with a ‘cracking shot’ to the boundary for 4 runs. Torin Petrie came to the crease, but wasn’t there long before stumps were called, ending the days play.

Final Results: St Arnaud 4/139 Defeated Colts Phelans 10/116

Best Bowlers: James Coloe 3/27, Bruce Hando 2/22, Tom Batters, Paul Lund, Jason Bergen, and Torin Petrie, 1 wicket each.

Best Batsman: Walsh: 53*, Coloe 26, Ezard 21

A Reserve:
After last weeks win against Clunes, where Returning player Austin Fithall scored a half century and then some, A Reserve were this week beaten by “Early betting” flag favorites Colts Phelans. Leonard Haddon, top scored on 21, and Daniel Pickthall took 4 wickets for the saints, but the end result didn’t go their way, losing the game 180 runs, to 121. Although, signs were good, as they at one stage had Colts at 5/70. Look out for a fair few good wins, as players return from their other commitments, as the season progresses.

Carisbrook made about 203 and MKM are 0/40 in reply.

Creswick/Imperials made 298 against Colts

Beaufort all out 49 and Maryborough 3/246

Not sure about the other game

dunolly made 147 against st.arnaud with brad wootton top scoring at number 9 with 36.

st.arnaud were 3/12 but managed to battle on to 5/85 at stumps.

should be an interesting week in cricket this weekend

Creswick Imperials A Res need 50 to win with 3 down and A grade depending nearly 300 on a green and maybe damp Invermay both look like being 3 and 0

St Arnaud A Grade and B Grade lost by about 18 Runs, good signs for B Grade as we played 2 guys that havent played in 15+ years, and 5 that havent played seniors before..... and still managed to make 154

B Andison top scored for us with 61, and D Bilton Snr top scored for Carisbrook on about the same....his son (same name) scored 50 (B Grade)

Avoca bet Colts in B Grade

D Bilton Snr top scored for Carisbrook on about the same....his son (same name) scored 50 (B Grade)

both not up 2 A Res standard!

Snr played a good standard of batting, whilst the Son slogged, its hard, becuase an edge can go for 6 no worries at the Rabbit Hole (Primary School) Oval (if u can call it that)

DEFINATELY the worst ground ive played cricket on, EVER

Umpires no showed....but we handled it :)

North Central News report, to be published Wednesday 1st November

A Grade
A Grade traveled to take on Laane Dunolly, where they won the toss, and elected to bowl. Things started off looking well, with Taylor trapped infront of the stumps, LBW in the 10th over, from the bowling of Tom Batters. Smith and Daly followed soon after, both dismissed by Bergen, the following over. McHugh and Polinelli stood up for Laane-Dunolly, before in the 17th over, Bergen again got a wicket, McHugh caught by Sharp, for 11 runs. Two overs later, Polinelli was dismissed for 12, LBW to Bergen, and things were looking good for the saints, at 5/46, in the 19th over. Earl and Templeton put on a 54 run partnership, before Sharp dismissed Earl for 22 runs, caught by Hando. The following over, Templeton was dismissed, Bowled by Hando for 24. After really tight bowling from Hando and Sharp, Rickard was dismissed, run out, with the score now at 8/106. Newcomer to the crease Daly was not long after dismissed by Hando for 2, caught by Brooks. In what was later to be determined a match winning partnership, Wootton and Dellavedova put on a 35 run partnership, before Wootton edged one through to be caught behind from Hando’s Bowling. At the end of the innings, Dunolly were all out for 147.

St Arnauds innings started slowly, with the first wicket coming in the 7th over, Brooks caught from the bowling of Templeton for 10. James Coloe followed soon after, also caught, as did Hando, who were both dismissed for 0. it wasn’t long before Lund was also dismissed, falling LBW for the second time in 2 weeks, once again from the bowling of Templeton, who at this stage, had 4/11. St Arnaud hit back, with opener Walsh, and Petrie putting on a 51 run partnership, to take St Arnaud to 67 runs, when Walsh was dismissed by youngster Dellavedova, caught by C Taylor for 31. At stumps on the first day, St Arnaud were 5/85, chasing 148 for victory.

Four runs into the second days play, Sibson was dismissed from the bowling of Daly, for 7, and was soon followed by Petrie, LBW to Templeton for 31. With the score at 7/90, something drastic needed to happen, and it was two of the bowlers, Daniel Pickthall, and Jason Bergen who provided, and for a while, showed some good signs, before Pickthall was caught for 6. Twelve runs later, Bergen followed, bowled by Templeton, and was quickly followed by Sharp. St Arnaud fell short in the first innings by 26 runs. Templeton took 8 St Arnaud scalps, for just 37 runs.

With a 26 run lead, Dunolly took to the crease with the intentions of going for the Outright win, and knocked up a quickfire 4/157 from 23 overs. Bruce Hando took 4/61 from 12.

With Walsh falling at 1/55, for a score of 18, there was some hope of a possible comeback, but with the next wicket falling 4 runs later, and having only 9 players at the ground, this hope quickly fell away. Torin Petrie fell at 3/75, after knocking up 39 runs, and Bergen followed not long after, for 0. Hando and Sibson put on a 26 run partnership, before Sibson fell, caught and bowled for 13. At the end of the day, Hando was not out 29, showing some positive signs, and Pickthall was 0 not out, with the score at 5/113.

A Reserve
After in the first days play, being dismissed for 80 runs, St Arnaud had already lost on first innings points, having Laane Dunolly at 8/190 at stumps.

This weekend came, and things turned around drastically, with the two remaining wickets falling for just 7 runs, with the score at 197, a 117 run lead.

St Arnaud started off slowly, with Swanton dismissed by Wayne Pritchard for 0, in the 4th over of the innings. Dom Rhoden and Lachlan Patching followed soon after, with things looking quite bad after 3 wickets. Sam Coloe and Jason Lloyd put on a good partnership, with Lloyd racing to 50, scoring his 50th run with a 6. When Coloe finally fell, the score was at 4/87. Glenn Watts, making his return to the cricket scene this year put on a massive partnership with Lloyd, as Lloyd raced on to score his first century of the year, finally being bowled by Pritchard for 118 runs, a top effort Jason. 27 runs later, Tatt, who is also making his return to cricket, was stumped from the bowling of Mottram for 6. With the score now at 6/186, things were looking much better for St Arnaud. Mullins was next to be dismissed, Caught for 31, and followed after by Watts, who had by this stage reached his half century. Nick Smith batted well, scoring 18 runs, before being dismissed, caught off Polinelli. Dixon was bowled soon after by Pritchard. At the end of the innings, St Arnaud were all out for 280, but it was too late to try and get the outright win.

Nick Smith was awarded the “Pinky’s Pizza Star Performer Award” for his 18 runs, and 3 wickets.

B Grade
In their first game of the year, B Grade traveled to the Primary School oval in Carisbrook, in an attempt to repeat their performance this time last year, where they brought home a win. Without even having an umpire, the two captains decided to start the match. St Arnaud batted first, and started off well, with Martin Pettifer and Billy Williams opening the batting attack. Pettifer was the first one out, with an edge through to the wicketkeeper, he was dismissed for 15. Billy Williams followed not long after, Bowled by Morse for 9. Craig Newson was dismissed, after miss-hitting a short ball, caught for 8. Sam Dyke followed soon after, who was caught for 0. Garry Williams was caught by Morse for 4. Smith’s eyes lit up as he was bowled a short ball, but played it back onto the stumps, Bowled for 5 runs. At this stage, it felt as if we were already into our bottom order. Lachlan Douglas and Brendan Andison put on a handy partnership before Douglas was dismissed for 18. Jacob Patching came to the crease, and saw Andison score his first half Century in quite a while, by smashing the ball over the boundary for 6. Brendan was later dismissed LBW for 61. Patching followed not long after, out for 18. Rob Williams and Bruce Douglas hung around for a while at the end of the innings, before Douglas was caught for 1. At the end of the innings, St Arnaud were all out for 154.

Best of the Batsmen
Brendan Andison, 61
Jacob Patching/Lachlan Douglas 18 each.

Defending a total of 154 was always going to be a difficult task, given the size of the ground, and the conditions, but the youngsters (and their parents) did a pretty good job. J Bowen was dismissed early, Caught by Sam Dyke at square leg, from the bowling of Newson, and was not long after followed by Dunn, who was run out, after some good fielding at square leg. Harrison hung around for a while, but was finally dismissed, bowled by Jacob Patching for 31. the Dave Bilton combination (father and son) proved too good for the St Arnaud kids, as they both batted the innings out, taking Carisbrook over the line. With Dave Snr scoring 66 not out, and Dave Jr. scoring an unbeaten 50.

Best of the Bowlers
Patching 1/32
Newson 1/30

Id like to thank Rob Williams for making himself available to allow this game to go ahead, as well as Bruce Douglas who stood up, after one of the named players failed to make it to the game, and Brendan Andison who came back, after the side was informed of another late change.

With daylight savings now in effect, training will pick up quite convincingly, lets all get there both Tuesday’s and Thursday’s where possible.

maybe not, but maybe theres quite a few people out of town that dont have access to the NCN, and can read how the local side went, if you dont like it, dont read it

laane dunolly vs maryborough

maryborough batted all day 85 overs and made 187 , was a tough pitch to bat on apparently jodie thompson made 75 scott bell got a few to maybe 30. best bowlers for laane s polinelli 3/ 50 of 19 and m smith 3/29 16
not sure on any other games.

apparently maryborough will gain the services of a gun ex-local in from the end of november on! he's a gun bat and probably even better with the ball, look for them to string along behind, and ride his ability all the way to a premiership
