Analysis It kinda makes sense

It doesn't make being a supporter any easier or make watching the games on the tele/at the venue anymore enjoyable but for the first time in 5 years......the losses make sense.

During the back end of Scott's tenure, Shaw, Noble the losses were similar but they were hard to stomach. No one expect us to be a premiership contender or even a finals participant during that time period but we had senior players in that team. This team however is being held together by 1st, 2nd year players and state league players. Small bodies that don't have the engine size to keep up.....no wonder we're losing every game and we'll probably lose every game this year.

I feel like this year is one of those 'you gotta go 2 steps back to go forward'.

There's no guarantees in this game but at the very least...those 1st & 2nd year players when they get into their 20's will get us out of the rut.

When the most experienced players can't steady things, it's floodgates wide open.

It's poor leadership compounded by poor culture. We can't win games of football if our senior players can't pull their weight. We're in for more hurt until we have a leadership shake up. Desperately need to recruit olders players from other clubs. 2-year contracts each.

Take out Goldy, Ziebell, Thomas, McKay and Cunnington from our list and replace them with no senior players of note and we have what we have. Yes the list is by and large young but it’s also imbalanced and the recruits from other clubs have been very disappointing. So much wrong down at Hardon St. So many mistakes made over a number of years. Yes it kinda makes sense. Why wouldn’t it when yah heck up time and time again. :stern look

We should have at least half a dozen or so players that are pushing 150 plus games but the drafting in the years between 2013 and 2019 was so deplorable that we have no decent mature bodies.

Combine that with targetting the wrong types of mature players across the last 10 years and you can see why we are in year 5 of a rebuild and we aren’t showing any tangible signs of improvement.

The 2014 draft a huge highlight.

The Lost years

It's also the neglect of player development.

It's not just the player exodus of 2020. Guys like Black, Mullet, Bastinac etc.

Those few names showed so much promise and were key players in some very good wins against damn good sides. Even teams that won flags.

That's the sad part. We were so happy to just cycle through players like no tomorrow but did nothing to strengthen our depth and improve our 2nds until about now?

No wonder we're in this mess. A bloke like Michael Barlow was well overdue. Over 10 years too late.

Get rid of the debt no problem, but don't do it at the expense of the footy department and shaft your members too. Be innovative about how to go about it. Our club takes too many things for granted.

Unfortunately our list is filled with introverts. We need someone to come in who can lift the group & make them walk taller not just by their actions but by their personality.
It's a long list of things we need to improve: fitness, strength, skills, decision making, structures, etc but having someone who can instil more confidence would be huge I reckon.
75% of football is 90% above the shoulders
:p

Someone to come in and have the potential to dominate games/players and sleep with the wags…Just minus the last bit…but…like could..
