In the original Jumanji in 1995, there was less than a year in the real life ages of the two actors who played Alan and Sarah as kids in 1969, with Adam Hann-Byrd born in 1982 and Laura Bell-Bundy born 10 months earlier in 1981.

However 10 years separated the real life ages of the actors who portrayed Alan and Sarah as adults in 1995, with the late Robin Williams born in 1951 and Bonnie Hunt born in 1961.

I was watching Smiley’s People recently (technically a miniseries), and (spoilers) the actress playing Karla’s daughter was a decade older than the actor playing her father (and it doesn’t look ridiculous). Tusse Silberg just looks a young 50 and Patrick Stewart an old 40

On a Saw forum, I recently read the "Hello Zepp" score is played towards the end of the trailer of the 2009 film The Box starring Cameron Diaz and James Marsden. I thought there's no way that could be right, but Lo and behold, after watching the trailer, I can confirm this to be the case. 😯

In an early scene in Shallow Hal, the titular Hal (Jack Black) and his friend Mauricio (Jason Alexander) are walking in the park, when a stunningly attractive young European woman named Lindy cycles up to them. An acquaintance of Mauricio and clearly taken by him, Lindy offers to take him to an exclusive concert where Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr will be performing together, and Eric Clapton taking the place of the late John Lennon.

To show just how shallow the two men are, Mauricio refuses the invitation for the reason that Lindy has a second toe longer than her first, although he covers this up to her by saying he wasn't a big fan of the Beatles.

Shallow Hal's release dates in North America and South America were largely in November 2001, however in other locations of Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and Oceania Shallow Hal was not released until December 2001 or January 2002. By this time, George Harrison had already died of cancer on 30 November 2001, making this scene appear anachronistic when the new movie was shown in countries outside of the Americas.

What do actors Susan Henning, Erin Mackey and Jacob Tumuri have in common?

All three were the body doubles for an actor playing identical twins in a movie, for scenes showing the twins in a group of people or scenes shot from a distance where it was not possible to edit the 'twins' together.

Susan Hennings was the body double for Hayley Mills in the 1961 movie 'The Parent Trap', Erin Mackey was a young Lindsay Lohan's body double in the Parent Trap remake in 1998 and Jacob Tumiri was the body double of Tom Hardy when he was portraying twin gangsters Ronnie and Reggie Kray in 2015 film 'Legend'.

The TV show 'Friends' sometimes required a body double for Lisa Kudrow when she was portraying both Phoebe and Ursula, and this role was filled by Helene Kudrow, the real-life sister of Lisa.

In the original Mean Girls in 2004 Amy Pohler played the clueless mother of Regina George, while in the 2024 remake Cady Heron's mother was played by Jenna Fischer.

Amy Pohler and Jenna Fischer have themselves played the roles of sisters in a fil, this being the 2007 sports comedy 'Blades of Glory', alongside Will Ferrell, John Heder, Will Arnett and Craig T Nelson.

To make most everyone feel really old Busy Phillips, the actress who plays Mrs. George in the Mean Girls remake is a year younger IRL than Rachel McAdams, who played the original Regina back in 2004. And Avantika, the actress who portrayed Karen Shetty in the remake (Karen Smith played by Amanda Seyfried in the original) was born in 2005, a year after the original Mean Girls was released.

Aubrey Plaza and Zac Effron along with Anna Kendrick and Adam DeVine would cross paths in several comedy films in the mid 2010s, but despite having major roles in these films the two respective pairs would not play love interests and have limited direct one-on-one interaction in both movies.

Aubrey Plaza and Zac Effron would appear together in two 2016 movies; 'Dirty Grandpa' and 'Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates', while Anna Kendrick and Adam DeVine would both appear in 'Pitch Perfect' from 2012 sequel 'Pitch Perfect 2' in 2015, and then again in 'Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates'.

In 'Mike & Dave' Zac Effron and Anna Kendrick would play love interests as would Adam DeVine and Aubrey Plaza. Aubrey Plaza's character in Dirty Grandpa would be the love interest of Zac Effron's on-screen grandfather played by Robert DeNiro, while in Pitch Perfect Adam DeVine's character would have no love interest in the first film but would be the love interest of Rebel Wilson's Fat Amy character in Pitch Perfect 2. Anna Kendrick's Pitch Perfect character Becca's love interest would be Jesse played by Skylar Astin in the first two films, but he and Adam DeVine would not return for the third and last Pitch Perfect movie in 2017.

Another Pitch Perfect cast member was Brittany Snow in the role of Chloe, and she and Zac Effron played girlfriend and boyfriend in Hairspray in 2007, while Rebel Wilson and Adam Devine would again play love-interests in fantasy film 'Isn't It Romantic?' in 2019. Skyler Astin may have played Anna Kendrick's love interest in the first two Pitch Perfect movies, but off-screen he was married to co-star Anna Camp - who was playing a character named Aubrey - however the couple have since divorced.

Emu’s wall after that bit of trivia

That's nothing, you should see my other wall with the strange casting coincidences that link the 2009 movie '17 Again', the 1997 movie 'George of the Jungle' and its direct to video 2003 sequel, and the sitcoms 'Friends' and 'Two and a Half Men' as follows:

The late Matthew Perry and Leslie Mann play husband and wife in 17 Again. Matthew Perry's real-life father was John Bennett Perry, and he would play the father of Leslie Mann's character Ursula in George of the Jungle in 1997. Ursula's mother would be played by Holland Taylor. Very few of the 1997 cast of George of the Jungle would return for the unsuccessful 2003 sequel, including leads Brendan Fraser and Lesley Mann, and John Benett Perry or Holland Taylor. While the role of Ursula's father was discontinued, her mother was recast to Christina Pickles, well-known for playing Mrs. Geller, Ross and Monica's mother in Friends and who would become the mother-in-law of Matthew Perry's character Chandler when he married Monica. One new character in George of the Jungle 2 was George & Ursula's young son George Jnr, played by Angus T Jones. While his grandmother in this film was obviously played by Christina Pickles, the previous actress to play the role - Holland Taylor - would play the grandmother of Angus T Jones' character Jake in the sitcom Two and a Half Men.

In the 2018 movie 'A Simple Favour' the main character Stephanie - played by Anna Kendrick - tries on an expensive black dress owned by her friend Emily - played by Blake Lively - who at that stage of the movie is missing presumed dead.

The dress fits Stephanie perfectly, but in real life petite Anna Kendrick stands just 5 feet 2 and has a willow-like build, while Blake Lively stands at a lofty 5 feet 11 and has an athletic figure similar to tennis player Maria Sharapova. No way could the two women wear each other's clothes.

On Wikipedia pages for high schools it is fairly common for them to list their famous alumni. In the city of Springfield Missouri, Kickapoo High School's class of 1982 contains a very famous name - actor Brad Pitt - who has appeared in quite a number of different genres, but has found much success in the crime genre. It's kind of ironic that 10 years later, the graduating class of 1992 would see one of the world's most famous unsolved crime mysteries, when the day after graduation in early June 1992 students Suzie Streeter and Stacy McCall vanished without trace along with Suzie's mother Sherrill Levitt. None of the three women have been seen or heard from to this day, and nearly 32 years on the case remains as big a mystery as it was the day they disappeared.

Channing Tatum, who has also found acting success in a variety of genres, attended Gaither High School in Florida, and was one year ahead of a girl named Jennifer Kesse. At age 24, Jennifer Kesse would vanish in mysterious circumstances from Orlando Florida after returning from vacation in early 2006, the case still unsolved after 18 years.

Joe List, who is mainly known as a stand up comedian but has had some acting roles was a member of the Class of 2000 at Whitman-Hanson Regional High School in Hanson Massachusetts. Among his class was a girl named Maura Murray who was accepted into the exclusive West Point Military Academy, but this didn't seem to work out and she transferred to the University of Amherst. Maura seemed quite a troubled young woman when she vanished into the dark woods in heavy snow in January 2004, the unsolved case 20 years on dubbed the first high profile social media crime/mystery case.

Watched Rain Man last night.

For in-flight viewing, several airlines deleted the sequence in which Raymond Babbitt reels off statistics on airline accidents, except Qantas. They even promoted one of the movie's writers to first class once when he travelled on their airline.

During filming, Dustin Hoffman was unsure of the film's potential and his own performance. Three weeks into the project, Hoffman wanted out, telling Barry Levinson, "Get Richard Dreyfuss, get somebody, Barry, because this is the worst work of my life." Hoffman would nab his second Best Actor Academy Award for his work.

Dustin Hoffman spent a lot of time with savant Kim Peek, the inspiration for the character of Raymond. Rain Man writer Barry Morrow first met Peek in 1986, and on winning an Oscar for the screenplay for this movie in 1989, gave his Oscar trophy to Kim Peek. Hoffman made Kim's father (the main caregiver) a promise that he would "share Kim with the world." For nearly twenty years until his death, Kim Peek went all over the world impressing people with his incredible memory and ability to recall minute details from centuries of history.

Sir Michael Caine has revealed that Tom Cruise's performance in "Rain Man" was one of his personal favorites of all he'd ever seen on film. Caine found out somewhat late in his adult life that he had a brother he'd never been told about, who had lived most of his life in Cane Hill Mental Hospital with a debilitating diagnosis of epilepsy. With great sincerity he said "Tom's performance was beautifully done." He went on to say that "Dustin had the 'showy' part." Tom's required great discipline and a responsibility to draw the viewer into Raymond's point of view, as well as portray the painful acceptance of the limitations his brother's condition placed on their level of familial intimacy.

When Dustin Hoffman's Best Actor Oscar was presented to him by Michael Douglas, the words that preceded the announcement of Hoffman's name were, "...and the Oscar goes to..." which, for the first time, had replaced the traditional line, "...and the winner is...", et cetera. The Academy had made the switch for discretionary purposes as well as to avoid the implication that the nominees who did not win were losers, and the practice has been in effect ever since 1989.

When Raymond keeps insisting that Charlie has to take him back to Kmart to buy boxer shorts, much of this dialogue was improvised by Dustin Hoffman.

After being interviewed by the psychiatrist, Raymond (Dustin Hoffman) leans his head against Charlie's and says "My main man Charlie". This was unscripted, and improvised by Hoffman.

In John Steinbeck's classic Depression-era novel 'Of Mice and Men' the character of Curley's Wife is always referred to as Curley's Wife, her first or second names are never revealed.

The story has been adapted for stage, radio, a TV mini-series and several movies since it was published and having an unnamed character in these adaptations proved too difficult. She has always been assigned the given name 'Mae' in these adaptations.

Australian actors Ben Mendelsohn and Aden Young twice played best friends who fell out over a girl in a love triangle in two 1990s movies. These movies were the completely forgotten 1994 drama film 'Metal Skin' set in Melbourne's western suburbs, where Mendelsohn's character falls for Young's character's girlfriend (played by Nadine Garner) and attempts to steal her away from him, leading to jealousy, anger and violence.

Then in comedy-drama Cosi in 1996 the roles are reversed when Mendelsohn plays an out of work actor named Lewis who takes a job as a drama teacher at a Sydney mental hospital. While Lewis is busy with his new job, his conniving best friend played by Aden Young makes a move on Lewis's girlfriend, who is played by Rachel Griffiths.

In real life, Aden Young is married to singer/musician/actress Loene Carmen. Along with Noah Taylor, Ben Mendelsohn and Loene Carmen had their breakout film roles in the classic 1987 coming-of-age drama 'The Year My Voice Broke' Mendelsohn and Carmen playing a boyfriend and girlfriend from troubled backgrounds whose teenage romance was never going to have a happy ending.

Yeah it’s interesting isn’t it. Singer Holiday Sidewinder’s stepparents are Aden Young (mother Carmen) and Claudia Karvan (father Jeremy Sparks) respectively. Aden & Claudia were an item in that mid 90s period funnily enough.

Noah and Ben also popped up together again in Lover Boy, True Love and Chaos (brothers) and The New World (although I don’t recall them sharing screentime in the latter). Noah has also popped up in a few Nick Cavey things over the years (scripts, music vids, in-film references, etc.).
