Preview Changes for Rd 11 v Essendon

Absolute nuts playing Yeo. But I suppose playing him couldn't be any worse than what the mids last week put out.

Allen back, Williams to spend more time on the ground and up fwd.

Not wasting a spot on a 2nd ruck only playing 50% TOG lets us play Yeo on probably limited mins

Hopefully there is no risk Yeo getting re injured to his groin and the MC finally have learnt their lesson, but I doubt it

To be fair, they seemingly held back Hurn and Ryan an extra week and played it cautious with Barrass just before that, so other than Shuey, who has proven to be chronically injured over the last year - and considering his track record with knowing when he’s good to go - there hasn’t really been anything else you can question this season. Touch wood.

Great to have him back in the team - Essendon aren’t necessarily stacked with pure class but there are a lot of stat stuffers in their midfield, we need all available hands on deck to match them.

Legitimately nervous when it comes to Yeo;

Its great to have him back, but, if he breaks down again we wont be seeing him again this season.

Personally, i would have given him another 2 weeks 2 build his match fitness and see how he pulls up and bring him back after the bye. Even with the form we are in we can account for Essendon at home without him.

I really, really hope that our medical team has got this right.

Either he's fit or he's not. I guess they've decided he can build match fitness in the 1s.

Bombers forward line has some talent if they fire. Their defence is an absolute joke though. If we break even in the middle we'll absolutely belt them. Hopefully JD kicks a bag.

Get the nervousness and share it.

But wouldnt he have just as much chance of reinjury or a setback in the WAFL?

Much better more balanced with Allen down back and Waterman and H.Edwards out. MC must of learned from their mistakes of the side being too tall against the Giants as the team lacked forward pressure with too many talls in the forward line and we also ran out of legs playing a man down with Williams only playing 50% TOG against the Giants. Yes Waterman works hard but he's more of an overhead link up player and is not a ground ball specialist. Jones coming back will significantly help with our forward pressure, something we lacked against the Giants. Williams to play the third ruck/forward role which the three tall two KPF, one ruck/forward setup has worked so well during 2018.

I trust the medical team that Yeo is all good and will gain match fitness in seniors just like Tom Lynch did in 2019 when he had no pre season. If Yeo get's that groin injured again then whoever declared him fit should get the sack but then there's always a chance he can do the same groin in twos so not sure if sacking the medical guy would be the answer. Hopefully Nelson can play a tagging role.

I see your point but I also like JK, JD and Allen as the (only) three tall forwards. Allen is good everywhere but seems best as a forward.
The obvious problem with this setup is that you have no place for Waterman, Brander has to be on the wing/middle, and only one ruck can be on the ground at any time, negating Williams as a resting ruck/forward; something he looks like having a future as. This also puts more pressure on bench rotations and if we get an early injury can throw the whole team out.

If we can click with injuries/form and Rioli in the small forwards we may move away from the tall fixation. Ryan, Rioli are top notch. Jones looks the goods and if Cameron can get over his injuries and attitude he could be easy B22. And Winder could be anything in an X-factor way. If, if, if... then we could end up with the best group of small forwards in the AFL.

If JK retires at the end of 2021 it'll actually make positional selection easier with JD and Allen as the starting talls, Williams resting forward and Waterman as the third tall if we need one.

I like Allen as a part time ruck because he is super smooth when patrolling the middle of the ground. Good ball user, can mark up the wing, and if he pushes forward from centre the other ruck often won't go with him or will be caught lagging.

Allen could also play a CHF role if Darling wasn't so good at it.

As for team selection, it's very interesting!

Great to see Yeo back, I just hope he has a good run at it and gets some consistency without any more injuries. He is such a joy to watch and is good for the game to have players like him playing.

All for him going to HBF if required, he won an AA there and plays the position well, but I think they bought him in for the defensive edge in the midfield.

That is entirely plausible, granted. But, i would consider the slower pace of the WAFL to be slightly less conducive to injury. I really, really Yeo gets through without injury this weekend

Even Yeo said he expects another week in the 2's, they had agreed on 2 weeks in the Wafl, so surprised to see him included? But he's raring to go...!
Team looks much better than last week, just need Duggan back...remember him?

Agreed, it does appear potentially rushed with barely a half of WAFL as his reintroduction after missing for a year.

Considering the risk of relapse with OP is related to increasing loads too soon the jump he is now undertaking over a two week period, going from match simulation to managed WAFL minutes and a full return to AFL, is without question a significant load increase over a short period.

The obvious question that springs to mind is if the club had won against GWS, would Yeo be playing another managed game in the WAFL this week?

I think we all are in agreement in the hope that Yeo has completely overcome this issue and that he is ready to go without risk.

Ill be excited as 5 mins before bouncedown

But tickle me sideways, if we are winning well, it's 1 month in the WAFL to really ease into it.

The expectations of him being close to the player he was is whacked.

He did 60-70 minutes of match time and would likely be ramping it up to 90 or so minutes this weekend. He may as well do that in the first team.

It's probably because covid lockdown in Melbourne will impact the fixtures meaning we might play tigers a week earlier, so they decided to play him now so he gets that extra week of match fitness to be ready. Just a thought. Either way injury-free Yeo with 1% fitness is still better than most of our boys. LOL
