Season is over, so it's time for me to tally the votes for this years BFWCPOTY award (the most prestigious award in all of footy). And this year comes with the bonus of being the winner during a premiership year, something only Chris Judd has done before. While I'm tallying the last 3 games, have a guess at the Top 10.

Last year was a blow out for Yeo winning by 10 votes over Shuey.

Previous winners include:

2003 - Ben Cousins
2004 - Chris Judd
2005 - Ben Cousins

2012 - Daniel Kerr
2013 - Josh Kennedy
2014 - Eric Mackenzie
2015 - Andrew Gaff
2016 - Luke Shuey
2017 - Elliot Yeo

So, go ahead and give us your Top 10 (or 5 if you are lazy)...

Thought I'd add some people's preseason predictions...

Once again I will be counting the votes for our MVP this season. Last year was a runaway win by Yeo. Can he repeat this year? Can Shuey get his award back? Can McGovern stay fit long enough to win it? Can Nic Nat have a miracle return? Or maybe someone from left field can come out of nowhere to win?

I thought I would get in early this year, so people can have a guess at the Top 5/Top 10 by seasons end. So, have a guess, and then see how wrong you can be about predicting the future.

Also, some fun questions?
1) Which ruckman finishes with the most votes?
2) Which player with under 10 games played at the start of the season finishes with the most votes?
3) Which forward, not named Kennedy, finishes with the most votes?

Shuey easy. So easy.

My picks

1) Shuey
2) Sheed
3) Yeo
4) McGovern
5) Nic Nat

1) Ruckman - Nic Nat
2) 10 games or less - Venables

Not sure who will take this out tbh... such an even year from our squad.

Let's start with the players who didn't get a game this season...

Hamish Brayshaw
After missing the start of the season, the first year player returned to the Royals reserves in Round 11. After a couple of solid games he was promoted to seniors and played every remaining game for the season. With the Eagles in Finals prep mode at that point, it was pretty unlikely he was going to get into the Eagles team. He did seem to know how to find the ball averaging almost 30 possessions a game in the last 3 games of the season

Luke Partington
After playing a handful of games last year, Luke couldn't crack the senior team this season. He's obviously fallen out of favor because his form was pretty solid in the WAFL. In 16 of the 17 games he picked up 19 or more possessions. He averaged over 25 possessions for the season while kicking 17 goals.

Josh Rotham
The first year player averaged just 11 possessions a game in the WAFL and will need to step it up next year to crack into the 22.

Kurt Mutimer
Similar to Partington, he played a handful of games last season, but couldn't add to that this year. Had a consistent, but not great season, in the WAFL. Consistently picked up the high teens in possessions in each of his games. He is contracted for next year, but will need to show something to be kept beyond there.

Malcolm Karpany
At the start of the season Malcolm would have been hoping to build on his first two seasons. Unfortunately after playing the first handful of games of the season in the WAFL he injured his knee. Made his way back at the end of the season to play the last 5 WAFL game. Will be hoping for a big preseason.

Matthew Allen
For the third straight season Allen didn't play a league game. While injuries could be blamed for 2017, this year he played 17 games for East Perth. His numbers were actually pretty solid - 17 possessions, 5 marks and 1 goal. Will be interesting to see what happens over the off-season.

Even though he didn't play a game this season, this guy deserves his own post...

ERIC MACKENZIE
Unfortunately it's pretty rare for AFL players to get a dignified exit. Eric spent the entire season on the side line (outside a mid-season WAFL game) before retiring just before the end of the season.

Thank you emac. You will be remembered...

Next up we have players who played, but didn't pick up a vote...

T-30 Brayden Ainsworth

Played 3 games in his debut season. Was probably the best of the 4 who didn't get a vote. Picked up an average of 14 possessions in the 3 games and was a ball magnet in the WAFL (averaging 25 possessions a game).

T-30 Oscar Allen

Probably surprising he didn't get more opportunities in a year both Kennedy and Darling missed time. He did play two games, with his best game coming against Brisbane in Round 23 where he had 14 possessions and showed great potential.

T-30 Jack Petruccelle

Played 3 games this year, but didn't show much. The most possessions he had in a game was 7, though he did kick two goals against Port Adelaide in Round 7. Though he's just a rookie, so has time on his side.

T-30 Jarrod Brander

Our first pick in last years draft only managed 1 game in the 2018 season. He had a quiet 5 possession game in our Round 13 loss to Sydney. Next year will be the real test.

Only played 3 games this year. Has never really taken that step everyone thought he was capable of after his 2015 campaign, and after 4 years on the list only has 11 games to his name. Is probably fortunate that he may be kept as depth at the ruck position with the likely loss of Lycett and the injury to Nic Nat. His best game of the season came in Round 8 where he had 11 possessions and 6 hit outs in our win over GWS.

It was a pretty disappointing year for Nelson. Started the year in our top 22, but now finds himself well behind Duggan and Cole in the role he fills in the backline. Actually played 10 of the first 13 games, but none after that. Was solid in the WAFL but never forced his way back in. His best game of the season came in Round 13 against Sydney where he had 16 possessions.
