Agree 1000 per cent.

Pujara needs an SOS as far as I’m concerned.
I think if not Pujara, then someone from the current Lions v Ind A series.

Because then the lineup gets ****ed over. 1. Rohit 2. Yash 3. Pujara 4. Rahul 5. Shreyas 6. Jadeja 7. Ashwin 8. Axar 9. Bumrah 10. Siraj
Missing a player, and Shubman isn't a number 4.

I’m probably not in the loop enough with Indian selection but what’s the reason Pujara keeps getting dropped? To me he’s absolutely made for test cricket and you’d kill for a no.3 with that wealth of experience and technique.
Rahane and Pujara were dropping in performance at Test level. And their ages didn't justify gives them more chances. Since then, Rahane has impressed in the IPL for Chennai, and Pujara played county averaging 54.08 from 12 innings

They’ve moved Gill to no.3 far too early I feel. He’s still hasn’t really set the world on fire at the top of the order. He might be better suited at no.5 with his stroke play.

The challenge for India is that they almost need to have two Test teams, one for Indian conditions and one for overseas.

Players like Gill and Iyer are excellent in India but don't seem to be able to cope with overseas bounce. Axar Patel is a must pick in India and must not pick outside of India. They don't seem to produce too many players now who have techniques to succeed anywhere.

Sounds like a recently retired Australian opener? :):)

Bharat to keep wickets? Thought I heard Rahul will be playing as a specialist batsman to start this series.

I just saw that news as well. Bharat did just make a 116* in the recent India A game. And Rinku has been brought into the India A squad. So expect the promotion to be from there rather than Pujara.

Sounds like england were going to go with 3 spinners guess now they need to go two spinners root as spin backup and wood/anderson.
They do have 4 frontline spinners in the squad...The 1st test bowling line up is looking like this;

Wood
Anderson
Leach
Hartley / Ahmed
and Root as the 3rd spinning option.

*Hartley or Ahmed to replace Anderson if they go for 3 frontline options

To be fair this is the first time that it’s been more than 1-2 shots in a match that you could even remotely point to as being irresponsible that have gotten them into trouble. Even here it wasn’t the first innings approach that was, as a rule, ‘terrible’: root’s shot was diabolical but Crawley just played a normal sweep to a ball down leg, Bairstow got caught on the crease, Pope got trapped in front of his stumps, Duckett poked a long hop to cover that he should have smashed anywhere - stokes had actually batted sedately and THEN got out playing a pretty normal shot by his standards with a slog sweep.

If anything their bowling needs a pretty thorough examination: they didn’t lose this test by crumbling for 120 all out in the fourth innings, they lost it by having a team 3-30 and then 7-330, and allowing them to make 450.

I don’t think going 2-1 down proves anything one way or the other yet especially when the biggest impact in the two losses has come from a kid in the opposition team making back to back double hundreds at the speed of sound.

It's less to do with the style of play but more to do with the delusional commentary that comes out of there mouths like they are the ones that have created an aggressive brand of cricket and saving the game.

They didn’t create it but the whole thing is great for cricket. Having spent half my life in both countries cricket in England is far more exciting.

Varied non drop in pitches, varied winners, large amount of visiting supporters at the game.

In Oz, it’s Oz slowly comprise a big score and then out muscle the opposition with aggressive short bowling on big grounds and flat pitches.

It’s turgid attritional cricket where Oz usually win in the end as the opposition have little chance to get first class experience in the conditions.

England results vary but it’s more even and interesting. Bazball makes people want to watch and play England.

Just as people wanted to watch and play the Ponting, Hayden, Warne, McGrath team as they were fast scoring entertainers on better pitches.
