This has probably been mentioned a few times.

2022 Collingwood lose preliminary final by 1 point.
2023 Collingwood win preliminary final by 1 point.

This may be the only time this ever happens.

Steven May is a dickhead.
Melbourne supporters that clog up gameday threads are also dickheads.

Richmond in the 1980s and Collingwood in the 1990s.

They were the premiers in the first season of the decade and wooden spooners in the last.

Also following both the 1980 and 1990 GFs the winners and the losers of these games end up in the same spots nine and ten years later respectively.

1980 GF - Richmond d Collingwood. Richmond in 1989 finishes last on the ladder and the next year Collingwood wins the premiership.

1990 GF - Collingwood d Essendon. Collingwood in 1999 finishes last on the ladder and the next year Essendon wins the premiership.

Craig McRae AFL premiership coach was a player for Brisbane's 2001-03 premiership teams

With Pick 46 in the draft they selected Bodie Ryan.

2010 Swan Districts win WAFL Grand Final, Collingwood win flag
2023 Swan Districts win WAFL Reserves Grand Final, Collingwood win flag

  • In each of Collingwood's last two premiership seasons (2010 & 2013), a WAFL team has broken a premiership drought of two decades or more. Swan Districts won their first premiership in 20 years in 2010, while East Fremantle broke a 25 year flag drought dating back to 1998 with an easy win over Peel Thunder in the 2023 WAFL Grand Final.
  • At least one Tiger team at high level football has finished runner up in each of the Magpies past three premierships. Claremont and Glenelg were WAFL and SANFL runners up respectively in 1990, Claremont lost the 2010 WAFL premiership decider and the Werribee Tigers somehow managed to lose the 2023 VFL Grand Final to a Gold Coast development squad.
  • Each of the sides beaten by Collingwood to take out the 1990, 2010 & 2023 flags had been eliminated from the previous season's premiership race by Geelong. Geelong trounced Essendon in the 1989 Grand Final, came from behind to beat St Kilda in the 2009 Grand Final and the Cats had an easy win over the Brisbane Lions in the 2022 Preliminary Final.
  • The wooden spoon team in each of 1990, 2010 and 2023 commenced in 1987. This was the Brisbane Bears in 1990, and the West Coast Eagles in both 2010 and 2023.
  • Collingwood suffered a potentially costly late season loss to long-term bogey team Hawthorn in each of its last three premiership seasons. In 1990 an 83-point thrashing that the Hawks inflicted on the Magpies made Collingwood fans think the Colliwobbles had arrived a month early. In 2010 Collingwood were unbeaten since May, but went down to Hawthorn in the last round, causing worries about this affecting the team's momentum. And late in 2023, an abysmal, listless performance by the Magpies against the Hawks in a one-sided game made Collingwood fans think they slipped back in time two years to the Magpies' terrible 2021 season when they finished second last. Given all this it's probably best for the Pies that Hawthorn and Collingwood very rarely meet in the finals, and never in a Grand Final to date.
  • A new Grand Final match up has occurred in the high-level leagues in each of Collingwood's last three premiership seasons. In 1990, Williamstown and Springvale contested a Grand Final for the first time and in 2010 Central Districts and Norwood played off for the SANFL premiership. In 2023 East Fremantle vs. Peel Thunder, Werribee vs. Gold Coast and Sandringham Dragons vs. Oakleigh Chargers were all new GF combinations for the WAFL, VFL and Talent League respectively, while in the SANFL Glenelg and Sturt met in the Grand Final for the first time since 1974.

Swan Districts beat Claremont in the 1982,1983,1990 and 2010 grand finals.

Interestingly, of Swans other four flags three were at the expense of East Fremantle - 1962, 1963 & 1984. The only other club Swans have beaten in a Grand Final was East Perth in 1961. Their sole GF encounters with South Fremantle and Subiaco in 1980 and 2008 respectively resulted in big wins to the Bulldogs and Lions, while the Swans have never met West Perth, Perth, Peel or West Coast Eagles in a league Grand Final.
