MVP AFLCA Votes, 2023

A thread to track the weekly AFLCA votes, and see if we can surpass our illustrious efforts of 2022.

Recent club leaders
2018: Andrew Gaff - 65 votes (12th overall)
2019: Luke Shuey - 76 votes (eighth overall)
2020: Nic Naitanui - 56 votes (seventh overall)
2021: Nic Naitanui - 70 votes (11th overall)
2022: Tom Barrass - 39 votes (NFI, website only lists the top 20)

Last season, West Coast Eagles players combined for 156 votes. The joint winners, Clayton Oliver and Touk Miller, combined for 196.

Jeremy McGovern finished as our runner up in the AFLCA, polling 21 votes, all of which he had received by Round 4. Josh Kennedy polled twice and came third with 18 votes. ******* hell.

Our best 'recent' results came in 2015, where Matthew Priddis and Andrew Gaff finished fourth and fifth respectively while, going back further, Daniel Kerr finished fourth in 2007.

Genuinely thought there was a chance Simmo might have given Bailey a vote for his work throughout the game. Switkowski >>> Darcy yesterday and staggered he got the same votes as TK in the medal.

Surely the current total is more than all of last year combined?
Not quite.

156 votes combined last year, which seems a lot but in reality is absolutely dismal. As I said in OP, the joint winners combined for 196 votes. Not good.

660 votes are available to a club, so about 23% of total votes last year went to our players, meaning 77% of votes went to opposition players.

Current team total through three rounds is 39 votes, about 43% of the 90 available to us. Not too bad for a close run 1-2 team.

Kelly, Jones, Shuey, Waterman, Sheed and Allen have all exceeded their 2022 totals already.

Gov was leading the AFLCA after Round 4 last year with 21 votes, before not polling again and then injuring himself. So...good luck to TK next week.

Very even vote split this week.

Round 4 - WCE vs MEL
9. Christian Petracca (5-4)
8. Clayton Oliver (3-5)
6. Brodie Grundy (4-2)
5. Tim Kelly (2-3)
2. Tom McDonald (1-1)

Congratulations to Tim Kelly for surpassing 21 votes, ensuring he would have finished no worse than runner up in West Coast's 2022 count.
