I went down to the game, and there was certainly some odd decision making from the young players when the game was hot. In the end, very fortunate to hold on, but they go the chocolates and are the inaugural academy series winners.
Any reports on the couple of games the Academy team has played in the Coates Talent League so far? Looks like the Northern Academies as a whole have struggled a bit so perhaps the Allies performance last year was more the exception than the rule at this stage.
There are reports on the Draft board. Both GC and Lions teams have strong bottom age groups.
Sydney and GWS’s teams are a fair bit weaker.

unconfirmed reports that Gilder, Gallop, Annable, McFayden, Richardson (19) have been selected in the Allies squad.

Hard to say IMO. Kind of player you could rocket up to late first early second or fall to the third round. Has some great tools.

Looks to me they wanted 5 from each club. Unlucky for Gillet. Would be a damn shame if he falls to the rookie draft for us....

Both top agers who played all year as bottom agers last year.
Fazldeen was a star at Senior QAFL level post academy series, including kicking 5 against the powerful Broadbeach team on their home deck in a knock out final to get the Gorillas over the line. Ridiculous performance for a 17 year old small forward in hostile conditions.
IMO nowhere near enough attention is paid to performances of that calibre when considering underage talent.
Fry chose to play lower level QFA senior footy, and as a result probably slowed his development a touch

Richardson was moved to defence in the last 2 games of Academy Series, specifically to see how he goes. Obviously did enough. He is much fitter and has changed his body shape too.
