Lance Franklin
Lance Franklin is a giant of the game. The star Sydney Swans forward has played 300 AFL games, won two premierships with Hawthorn, is the seventh-greatest goal-kicker in VFL/AFL history, is one of just five men with eight All Australian blazers and is the most recent player to have kicked 100 goals in a season. The Western Australian is also one of just two players in the game’s history, along with former Swan and Saint Tony Lockett, to have booted 300 goals for two clubs. Franklin was added to a leadership group for the first time in his career ahead of season 2020, joining co-captains Josh Kennedy, Luke Parker and Dane Rampe, as well as Callum Mills. But the 33-year-old, who was named captain of the 2018 All Australian team, has long been considered an exceptional unofficial leader, so great is his impact on Will Hayward, Nick Blakey, Ben Ronke and the rest of Sydney’s young forwards.

A few people could probably do with reading this post again:

Yeah seemed like he couldn't get out of Sydney fast enough when he retired and this doesn't do much to change that impression.

No one's really that bothered by a random appearance paid for by Hawthorn it's more about it playing into a narrative that already existed. And whether it's true or not today did nothing to dispel it.

The ex/bf analogy is a good one; but this is more a case of your ex now dating someone they told you throughout your relationship you had nothing to worry about and they had no interest in that person. Then you break up and all of a sudden you see them together and your concerns that she was ******* around behind your back - while not confirmed - aren't helped.

It was all both a bit weird, and completely expected.

It was a Hawthorn initiative. They paid for everything plus the cheque for the appearance so basically, he did what they want him to do. So it was no surprise he only went around to the Hawthorn cheer squad (which he barely did) and back. And it was no surprise his answers to his best mate were all pro Hawthorn.

Both him and Jesinta shared their thoughts on their visit on their own social medias and that was inclusive of Sydney

I was hoping he wouldnt be lost to the club when he retired as he had a great eye at picking out talent.

Unfortunate at least for now he wants nothing to do with a role in a football club.

It has a similar feel to when there was speculation he would play another year at another club during the 2022 year & we rushed to give him another year.

He is a competitive man & for sure he always has that thought that he could have another year in him & no doubt feels he should still be playing.

Plugger was the same.
