Article on Swans website about scratch match.. worth a read.
Laidler spoke highly of COR and Gray.. but also of Amartey, OConnor (a fav of mine and Ill look forward to watch his development over the coming years), Warner and E Taylor
No mention of Gould, Stephens, Ling

Who knows who we have enquired about.

Swans: “how does he feel about a move to Sydney?”

Manager: “no good, the victorian club where he’d prefer to stay has found him a media job for an extra 300k a year so he will take one of those”

This doesn’t make the media...

fixed
We dont want to be norf and announce 50 players we chased and didnt get either

Not that hard. Are not willing to trade for a good ruck or use a good draft pick to get one.

which rucks in the afl are elite though and available

really it was nab sam jacobs or pinch another prospect

With list cuts reckon this year might have some decent ruck prospects - Kreuzer, Preuss, maybe Nankervis, maybe Hayes/Ladhams.

Kreuzer's probably not a great list fit for us given his age and injury history, but the others might be worth a crack and all are probably better than Sinclair.

Or maybe... just maybe... our midfield learns to shark a ******* ball once in a while.

And then, just as a crazy idea, they could do something effective with it when they do win the ball.
Yes and no.

You would still want the ball tapped to you every now and again, even the best midfield on the planet would find games much easier to manage with a decent ruck.

Ideally yes, but c'mon. We've had two whole seasons to adapt to playing without that kind of service. Richmond won two flags with lousy service! It can be done. At some point, we've gotta stop making excuses, suck it up, put our boots on and get to work on improving us in the middle.

Naismith was competitive. Sinclair is competitive. You want elite if you want a ruck who can ruck all day and win the ball around the ground.

Competitive means not being smashed in the hitouts and being vaguely survivable around the ground. Sinclair is serviceable around the ground but awful at the hitouts, and Naismith is always injured and will likely never play a game for us again.

Someone like Preuss, who while not perfect would have suited our needs fairly well.

We went OK with Mike Pyke - thanks to his ability to take a contested mark.

You don’t need a star ruck, just one that can offer something handy.

Exactly. We don't need an AA ruckman, just a ruckman who isn't a liability.

I miss Pyke though. His contested marking was pretty damned good.

Whats the story with Knoll? out for another 4-6weeks. He's 205cm and over 100 kgs. Can he mark? Can he compete in the taps??

Story is that since he is a certain height and on our list he is injured. It's in his contract
We have a special form of contract called the “Reid Charter”, which is the mandatory agreement for all players over 185cm.

It simply states that the player will be deemed in breach of contract if, due to a lack of soft tissue injury, he plays more than 7 games per season.

Oh, OK.. I guess that's better than the 'Tippett charter'.. where if over 200cm, you sign up, cause a trade ban and disappear to the Bahamas for the last two years of your contract
