FWIW I saw Lloyd play all last year - he definitely had enough juice to go around again, but not enough to 100% lock down a spot without injuries.
Well guess what, we've got injuries. Ideally he won't be playing in seniors but if we really do need a Linc-style high half forward he can do that...
Wouldn't have tipped it but given we have four spots, it absolutely makes sense to me. Daniel is more likely to have an impact if needed than whoever we're taking last second.
Yeah. Requested a trade home, GWS didn't go for it, he came back the next year but then walked out during preseason. Was traded back to Freo at the end of the season, but never really came on.
Counterpoint: it wasn't acceptable then either, they just got away with it without being punished - which is very different. I would've overlapped at school with some of these players (I know I did with at least one). I used similar language through school at times, but even then we all knew...
The recruiting team would already have knowledge on most of these guys from previous years' drafts, not to mention monitoring from this year's season with an eye to the end of the year. We won't be selecting guys we have no idea about.
Mine was in my 15th or so year of park soccer - landed on one leg after a jump trying to get the other leg up to intercept a high ball, and the knee just hyperflexed the wrong way. Bam.
It's also the action that causes the ACL. If you never twist your knee awkwardly, you won't tear it. So there's still a strong function of (bad) luck there.
He looked like he had something to work with the reserves games I saw in his first year, but safe to say he hasn't come on as hoped - but realistically, any ruck is always a massive crap shoot. Taking a player in the rookie draft or the midseason draft is just another lottery ticket.
Regardless of my poor response to recruiting Thomas, you can't get him in the mid season draft anyway. He's on NM's list that's lodged with the AFL until the end of the season, despite being sacked.
Against each other - Cornelius's Glenorchy team beat Littlejohn's team in a grand final, and then Zane left to join us. They're working together now at Box Hill.
Hugh had a TOG of 96%. That is truly insane for a midfielder. Only Oscar had a higher %age (which is insane in itself!) of 98%.
By comparison, the usual range for a first choice midfielder is the 80-89% range. Bont, Daicos, Kelly, Rowell, Miller, Heeney, Serong all fell into that range this...
Yeah, they'd have a degree of knowledge as to how likely they are to be taken and how in demand they are. From memory the top 5-10 options will often nominate 18 months, but after that you get into the guys that just want to be on a list.
Ultimately it's their call - they don't need to make it. Given we're looking at taking four in the MSD, at least #3 and #4 are going to be fairly marginal options so I don't mind giving them a six month taste of the AFL environment as a fair trade with inside track for sticking around if they...
I believe Fort only played a half in the reserves as part of planning, but not sure what changed - maybe the Starcevich injury forced a reconsideration of who the next man in was.
That's what I thought (didn't know about "other" though).
The guys nominating 18 months are the ones more comfortable in being picked up. Given we're potentially taking a few options, I think we're going to have to dig into more speculative options so I don't think assuming we're going to be...
