if the club has "flat out lied" then then X's manager would come out and dispute it asap, first of all Kane said it!!
Why would his manager care? Whatever bullshit the club puts out in the media isn't going to affect Xavier's contract offer.

I don't read Duursma's request as being that he actually wanted more midfield minutes, but that he wanted to be valued at the same level as guys like Rozee, Butters, Horne-Francis and Wines and he knew that getting into the midfield was the only way to break into that conversation.

Let's face facts: where exactly would you put Duursma in this list?

Butters
Rozee
Horne-Francis
Houston
Wines
Bergman
Drew

Because I'd have him right at the bottom, which means he's getting a B player wage. And that's fine if the rest of your life is good, but if you don't particularly like the place you're living, the coach or whatever, you're better off getting a B player wage at a club where you're not stuck behind three superstar mids + a Brownlow medalist.

It is 'Dougal doesn't want to play up forward' all over again.

The propaganda this club recycles...

In that one case there may have been some truth to it. Towards the end of his time here he seemed a little confused up forward.

We're only a couple of years removed from the failed experiment to bulk him up and push him more into the middle, aren't we? He didn't like it then, but he now wants to go to Essendon because it's not happening?

Wingard vibes about that experiment, but Wingard wasn't behind a bunch of more talented others and had a few more strings to his bow, like, um, elite disposal and goal kicking ability.

Yep. Also apparently charges into an exit interview and says I want more midfield time when the guy who won a Brownlow two years ago can't get midfield time because of the strength of the midfield. It doesn't add up at all.

Sadly it does, because a) Kane is a grub and b) our folks who exaggerate or outright make stuff up are about as good at it and as believable as Lavrov, Medvedev & Putin. If we're trying to increase Duursma's perceived trade value while still contracted, by adding midfield to his on-the-wing string it's a very poor attempt.

If you're Duursma's manager and you swat it away neutrally as "rumours about a private conversation" or say yes, it happened, you help Port with the apparent charade and possibly make the trade harder. If you flat out deny it you make Duursma's position at Port even less tenable.

The entire Duursma family was all in.
Give it to Ken. We go from two Duursma's and in the box seat for when the latest (and clear best) finishes his first contract and wants out, to underpaid for a player coming back from injury. It's not enough I've a laundry list of grievances with the club, long enough to rival War and Peace, they aren't content. No, they need to provide yet another reason to hate them.

You can picture them sitting around the table 'People, we have a problem, the List Management team still has some goodwill, what can we do to make them as hated as everyone else here?'

Isn't a better approach telling him to put in the work and show us that he can be a midfielder rather than telling him 'no son, go somewhere else and understand that I'm always right '
"Look Xavier, I guarantee that if we'd played you in the midfield we would have lost by a lot more"

I suggest you look at X last game (in the finals) it was putrid.
Where he was doing 15 metre back passes to the opposition (because he could not kick it over their heads).
Let's look at everyone's last game. We trading the lot of them?

I have been a big fan of X but he is kidding himself if he thinks he can become a permanent midfielder. He does not possess the ball winning capabilities to get a permanent spot in the midfield.

I am sure Josh Daicos would love to play more in the midfield but he knows what is best for his team by playing his role on the wing.

And he was rewarded with an All Australian this year.

I am sad to see X go as he could give us something on the wing when fully fit and confident.

Yes, but this would be admittedly difficult for him to show if the AFL side needs him on a wing.

kane's tweet is one of the biggest didn't happens imaginable. literally reads like it was made up to make us argue over whether he can really be a full time midfielder in our system. it's a trick - he never asked, that never happened
