Another show starting up. Looking forward to it. Last year was good, hopefully this year is too.

This first girl is pretty damn good. The ads weren't lying

She will take some beating, easily the most diverse voice. Actually reminds me a lot of Karise Eden. She is just that good.

On a side note shame Ronan, you said the guy was boring as anything and you put him through!

Is it just me or are the production values this year really clunky. Also, bar the Whitney Houston segment, they only showed performances that went through (and generally only one audition per segment). While these are good singers, I was getting bored with the auditions before the Whitney segment woke me up again. I prefer it when they mix up the duds with the good auditions - adds variety to the early stages of the show.

They've made the audition process feel really slow. I'm going struggle to maintain my interest in the auditions if they keep it this slow...

Yeah totally agree! It felt like they actually tried, purposely, not to show many duds and when they did...it was really quick!

Wonder if they are trying to steer away from that to show their all about talent (like the Voice).

But I love watching the duds :)

the fact that a young person sang john denver well gets my vote ahead of any other so far

And he sung it amazingly....effortless! He was like an old soul trapped in a young daggy country bumpkin's body!

It's probably one of the best things of the show when a guy would never have an opportunity if it wasnt for this show!

See I am the other way, I don't want to see the duds, I want to see the good ones. Wish the Whitney Houston girl went through, I know she is 16...but she was cute lol

I felt for her!! Not sure why friends and family just dont tell them the truth. If I had thought anout going on the show, I would need to ask (at least) 100 people if I could win. They probably don't want to get in their way of their dreams but it would save embarassment

But we have boot camp and home visits (and ultimately the live shows) to hone in on the good performers. The auditions are good because it showcases the start of the journey for the good ones but mixes it in with the ones who are either completely deluded or there for some fun. Previously they've had the mix of the great and the duds downpacked well. This year they've completely botched it up.

I hate watching duds, I feel for them sure as they suck, but why do they deserve airtime when they won't go through. You cannot please everyone.Last year there were complaints that they failed to show the top auditions, this year they do and people still whinge!

I think for the audition stage there needs to be the right balance of good acts and duds. The duds provide some good comic relief for the early stages of the show (and it's the only time in the show we'll get the duds), while the good acts remind us of what the show can really produce, and serve as somewhat of a preview of what to expect later in the series.

You're right though, you can't please everyone, and I guess this is one of those situations we're probably going to have to agree to disagree.

I think Australian Idol used to do the auditions the best. Not with their shitty set up, but with how quickly they rolled through them, and the balance between good acts and duds.
With X-factor, we get every persons story, them crying for a bit, sing for 90 seconds, judges talk, rinse and repeat. Throw in a montage of some duds and that's what you get.

The issue this year was the Olympics, originally the audition process was going to be longer but with 2 weeks of Olympics, it had to be shortened so in a way you can understand. Look I would normally agree that you can still see the duds, but in a short time span, you can't afford to. Whether X Factor likes it, the Voice is the show more people like, and thus they would be insane to go up against the Blind Auditions for that show. We will agree to disagree, I just don't have a solution to be honest.

Standard seems quite high this year. That Bella chick was amazing but when she isnt singing, she is annoying so I dont like her chances of winning. The 14 year old blonde girl who sang Blackbird was pretty amazing. I already hate that stupid boy band who came on. The bloke who sang Billie Jean was amazing and whilst the bald bloke who sang No Woman No Cry was a bit annoying singing in a Jamaican accent, he was still very good.

I hate some of the "stories" though. You can see in some of them that they have a pretty normal life so have to really stretch it to give them something. It's amazing how every year every singer has had it tough. They never have a chick or a guy come on and have a good home life, with lots of money, no real struggles. Their is always something they can twist and turn to make us listen to their shit story.

Still ill watch because their is always something mesmerising about watching unknown people been given a nation wide platform to announce themselves. Particularly if they are really good.
