Miami is throwing quite a few more upsets than Indian Wells did.

Keys getting beaten in straight sets to Eala was crazy.

Keys was ordinary but then again I know this is Keys and she's prone to this, hardly think she's going to go from an inconsistent as anything player to a highly consistent one. Rybakina losing wasn't an upset for off field reasons and that is the worst draw against an opponent in form and can serve bot as much as Elena can

The bigger surprise was that Keys won the Aussie Open.

Expecting her to breeze past Zheng pretty easily today.

Inevitably, one (or both) will **** it up though.

Zheng will be her hardest opponent to winning it, can servebot to win as she did at the Olympics. Iga has the NID bye due to Badosa pulling out, so she will breeze through. Pegula if it's windy becomes tricky for both of them

Zheng has never beaten her and in 5 matches, has only taken one set off her.

Would have to be one hell of a turnaround.

I agree, but she's playing outstanding this tournament and I am not a big fan of her, she comes across as a complete campaigner off the court, the fact that Navarro says it is all I need, Emma is one of the sweetest girls on tour!

She's played 2 nobodies and beaten Krueger (still below her level). Interestingly, she was pushed to a tiebreak in each of those 3 matches.

We'll find out very soon but I suspect Sab will blow her off the court.

I think it's mental with Iga. She absolutely cruises through and then when she gets closer to a final, fails badly.

Her clay court season will be interesting.

It’s a few things

1) Form. She’s in woeful form she was pretty fortunate to have a cupcake draw in Australia yet still lost to the first decent player she faced. Mirra trounced her too this year not a terrible loss but both today and then she wasn’t just beaten she was smashed.

2) That serve- it’s gone completely off and that’s a massive issue. A lot of double faults at bad times and she’s hardly serving like Krueger or Rybakina on her first ball.

3) Gameplan- way too much reliance on trying to hit the perfect FH or BH rather than trusting her solid play. Too close to the lines a lot of times.

The bombshell that no-one saw coming.

Since - even for talented athletes - the residency/citizenship approvals can take quite some time, I imagine she applied quite a while ago.

She hasn't been in especially great form recently, but a world #12 is a world #12. We'll take it!

Effectively the female demon but good for her to cut ties with Russia. Probably applied when she came out openly gay.

Edit: She has been living in Spain since.
