WRFL Div 3 Discussion 2023

It’s actually crazy if true.

Rockbank is in a great geographical position to play WRFL teams, opens the door to Melton clubs if successful and with the loss of clubs to other leagues recently it can only be a good thing.

Why on Earth wouldn’t the WRFL be keen?

Am theorising that there are probably a few issues to sort out from the WRFL point of view - eg what comp will their juniors play, how will the netball arrangements work?

I am hearing that the netballers aren't keen on moving. The bulk of them prefer the Riddell comp and some already play WRFL netball on Friday nights.

If the football club does move, it will be interesting to see which WRFL clubs the netballers play for but most will still be playing Riddell league netball on a Saturday.

Three new signings announced on Laverton Facebook page and looking at it they seem to be fairly handy.

Word coming out of the Lavo camp is they are pushing for finals regardless of what division they land in

Did okay last year. Competitive with the Suns a couple of times, beat Heights and were generally competitive until the last 5 rounds of the season. They were a very young side, another pre-season into them will help them match up on the bigger bodies for longer.

Watched some horrible footy at Merton Street over the years, good to see a flicker of life down there.

Full credit to them, the committee down there seem to be doing an good job. Football men and women's, a few teams in the Netball comp and looking at Junior Netball sides next year. The more people you have representing your club the better.

Post on RDFL forum saying WRFL have accepted Rockbank.

So, if true, will WRFL forge ahead with a 9-14 2 division arrangement?

Glenorden meeting next week to discuss their footy in 2024.

Probably explains the WRFL's delay in finalising their structure in 2024
The issue with having 14 teams in one division is way to many teams will have no chance of making the finals with a massive gap from top to bottom.

9-7-7 which becomes 9-8-7 if Glenorden come in.

Div 2 would have
Albion
Sunshine
Newport
Wyndham Suns
Wyndhamvale as definates then look at the following clubs for the last 2 or 3 places:
North Footscray (If they have the resources)
Albanvale
Braybrook
West Footscray (Much stronger now than last in Div 2 with juniors coming through)

To many in Div 2 will kill off some sides that are getting closer to moving up in a couple of years time

Right, despite the WRFL not enforcing it, the top division needs to be 10 teams.

18 rounds and each plays each other home and away. Every other structure outside of that is second and third.

Albion being weak as piss this season and the WRFL to let it happen at the detriment of the whole competition is why the comp is losing relevance.

I know that doesn't suit the 3rd division dwellers, but that's fact

What do you mean by North Footscray if they have the resources

Struggled massively towards the end of the year. Not a slight on them, just do they have to resources to get back to where they were, regular Div 2 finalists or do they need to rebuild and come back again stronger. Cleary if they have the resources to immediately bounce back they will be in Div 2 if there is 3 Divisions.

Resources are a combination of.money and Volunteers to run the club. Speaking to someone with strong connections there they were reaching out for the latter, they were approached. Hopefully they are successful in both.

Shaydon Bloomfield has signed at Laverton also. Whilst I’m happy for the club I played for to have a crack. I’m weary that they’ll spend themselves dry. Hope it works out!!

How old is he?

I was lead to believe Klix was done due to some bad injuries and his lost the passion for footy.

Bloomfield is 34 and along with Klix, is very short term recruiting by Lavo.

Glenorden on their socials declaring "We're back", with training dates. Had their meeting tonight to discuss their 2024 options.

Yet to be seen where that leads to, but if they did return, where does that leave the WRFL?

24 senior teams, but only 9 in D1, at least for 2024.

9-8-7 or has Albion changed their mind and go to D1?

Or are they playing on Friday nights in the thirds comp?
