Cant wait for the Wyndhamvale game this week. Angwin will get towelled up by Kenna who instead of getting Ruckman in team of the year will get Centre Half Back. It has been a real bonus havign Kenna back there and having the other young guy take over in the ruck
interesting next few weeks ahead of us boys....with the games everyone has it will really give us an indication on where we all are at.... we are looking forward to the challenge of the next two games with lavo then yarra.... it will tell us if we are really still behind most in the comp or just the top couple. we have played the top half of ladder and we are obviously still a bit away from the top 3 but from our point of view it was great to match it with these sides at times throughout the game and our guys have taken alot out of playing them so 2nd time round with these teams we hoping to improve again..... it is great to have a chat to other teams after games and to get feedback on us which me and my coaching staff take on board and if needed we use to help us get better.
lavo will be a big challenge this week but we are confident of a good game and a good showing, lavo have some great players and are (from all reports) on the improve so we will looking to step up and show that we are not just a bottom couple team.
i would like to send a thanks to parkside and nathan jueagen for allowing our game to go ahead with our sub umpire in the ones after the other umpire went down, u could have said no and game called off but it was good to kkep playing.... hope our guy did ok in ur eyes parkside.

and for unit27......laurie hasnt played since rnd 2 but we are hoping he will get up for next week against yarra if all goes well for him.

good luck to all this week (except lavo) hahahaha lets hope we get a win

Hey evo, you have been very vocal bout the umpire problem the league is having, do you think there is a chance they will strike and games will be called off this weekend

Hey evo, you have been very vocal bout the umpire problem the league is having, do you think there is a chance they will strike and games will be called off this weekend

Not sure if you guys remember a while back i spoke about some umpiring issues with tery gunn, coaching and the association. It has come to a head as the league is trying to break associaiton, backing up terry gunn and is supported by the AFL who want to control ALL leagues, clubs, umpires and anyone assocaited. if you have seen the orange umpires uniforms in some games, that is an AFL push (even though if clashes with WRFL runners colours). Those umpires wearing it are doing the league thing (and gettin paid directly by the league and those in white want the umpires assocaition and the entire competition to stay as a local comp and not have the AFL run it, and they have not been paid or given payslips for any matches this year (even though clubs have to pay the dues to the league)

So this weekend you might get an ump in orange or no ump at all. And it could go on for weeks. The umpires have asked over and over for a coach who will give coaching and provide u pires who know rules. They might be bad umpires but at least they will know rules whihc i think was EVO's point. Consistently average is better than inconsistently good.

If the AFL gets its way, it will actually control all leagues and clubs, meaning it will provide funding to clubs on some scale, but it wil also charge fees to be in comp, and things like sponsorship will be only allowed if it doesnt go against their sponsors. SCARY thought considering we already have to buy balls, alcholo etc etc thru league suppliers just to keepo them happy - X 10 and it would really suck.

ANYWAY SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT - MAYBE EVO IS RIGHT AND CLUBS NEED TO SPEAK UP TO THE WRFL EXECUTIVE ABOUT NOT JUST UMPIRES BUT THE FACT THAT THE CLUBS OWN THE LEAGUE AND THEY SHOULD BE LISTENED TOO!!!!!

Re: WRFL Div. 2 Season 2008 and Beyond Part III

What are you on Unit ? He playedn the ruck for the whole game 2 weeks ago against Albanvale and from Cain said on the weekend with him dropping in the whole in played in the ruck then too.

Why would you play him at CHB, he is your best player by a country mile and the best ruckman in the comp. Are you trying to be defensive now rather than trying to win games.

Why wouldnt you attack Vales as on paper you are a much better side ?

Totally agree mate. Kennedy was in the ruck for 80% of the game against Parkside. Whilst is did drop back a kick behind play, he certinly wasn't accountable for the Parkside CHF. I think he was even sitting at CHF for the time when he wasn't in the ruck. It's a shame, it would have been great for the game to see Sidda and Kennady battle!

Re: WRFL Div. 2 Season 2008 and Beyond Part III

Have set fees for each of the umpires in all grades, paid for by the clubs direct after the match. It will reduce the weekly match fees paid by the clubs as the 3 or 4 different levels the money goes through before it reaches the umpire, all take their own little bit out. It may also provide the senior coaches from both sides to fill out an evaluation of the umpires after each game without being personal or overly critical, and make them accountable to the clubs (without which there is no league, and they would not be able to umpire)
Footballs, go to tender, and see who can supply what.
Jumpers and attire, have a style guide set up by the league, but let the clubs source their own attire, the league can also provide an option.

I would be interested to know how many people are on a permanent pay check from the wrfl?
There seems to be a few there, plus the executive.
When clubs have to compete with the league for sponsors, something is wrong.

Fair point. I was on the committee a few years back for a club in the Central Highlands FL. The league actually GAVE MONEY BACK to clubs at the end of the year. It was about $5 gorillas to each club from memory but much better than the black hole in the WRFL. In that league they had set suppliers but the league wasn't 'skimming' off the top. The set suppliers was simply a way for the league to help the clubs negotiate a good price for common items (pies, jumpers, etc). The league has 14 teams (14 x senior, reserve, u18, u16, plus all of the netball for each club and level). To run this they only had a light committee of 4 people (Exec, Manager, Marketing & Admin) to the Football and Netball comps.

How does this compare to the WRFL?

Totally agree with most of your points, wrfl fees are killing most clubs, would also love to know who get's what out off the fees they are pulling in,have no problem paying umpires cash in hand, infact may lead to better quality one's.

Re: WRFL Div. 2 Season 2008 and Beyond Part III

Well if any of you saw the last game against Yarraville/Seddon Kennedy was at CHB for 95% of the game and it really worked. Good move by the coach and the young guy in the ruck whos name escapes me did a great job.

hey unit hows Jamie Zerafa enjoying div 2

Agree that pay situation needs changing but cash in handis not the way. Would hate to be the umpire who has done a pr!ck of a job and cost a team the game and then the club comes in to hand over money.

Good to see a bit of competition at the top of the table this year take out parkside and the next 3 or 4 teams are all very even, nth footscray deer park and albanvale all have had goood contested games didnt see the cobras win but heard it was a great game yarra had a dissapointing loss, i watched the last half and they didnt play their best footy but i think they are def still the 5th maybe 4th best team its hard to say so early on but ladder is def taking shape will be interesting round of results.

It is with extreme regret and disappointment that we inform you that as a result of the actions taken by the WRFL UA, the following consequences have eventuated.

  • <LI class=MsoNormal style="COLOR: navy; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1">All matches this Saturday 23rd May (Round 7) have been postponed until further notice. This includes all Under 18, Division 1 & Division 2 Senior/Reserve matches.
  • All junior matches scheduled for Sunday 24th May (Round 7) will go ahead as fixtured using club umpires.
All clubs are requested to put in place the necessary arrangements to ensure that club umpires are available for these games.

Please be assured that the WRFL will continue to work through the issues and would hope that a resolution can be found in the near future.

Arrangements are being made through AFL Victoria to assist and to mediate a positive outcome.

Kind regards,

how can you exclude parkside when they havent beaten north or albanvale yet and both those clubs beat them easy last year ??

realistically parkside (and it has even been said by a parkside official on radio) havent played anyone yet.. would of been a good game against Albanvale this week but the WRFL F***ED that up for everyone didnt they!

Mint get over last year :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I was at the Parkside Vs Albanvale game today and have come to the conclusion that Parkside are the real deal this season!

People have been saying that they havent beaten anybody (and i agree) but today they played a team that was supposed to be a challenger and beat them convincingly.

I dont think albanvale where that bad, I think Parkside are that good!

Next week we will all find out where parkside are at!;)

I said in previous posts Parkside are the best team by a fair bit and if they stay healthy they will more than likely win the flag.

Yarra are no chance, i have over rated my squad and we are simply not good enough and are an aveage team. Very Very dissapionting match today, we got beaten by a team who are very oridnary and that says alot about how we are Travelling at the moment.

All credit to Braybrook tho there service to there forwards was first class and that was the diffrence. Our skill level is well below par(mine included at times) and we simply keep missing targets and its very frustrating and i think it is like the flu becomes contageous through out the team.

We will continue to work and fight for 5th spot but we are in an uphill battle just to make the 5 and will more than likley miss out.

Whydhamvale will be a big challange for us next week the way we are playing.

Whydhamvale will be a big challange for us next week the way we are playing.[/quote]

looks like it is a pretty big game between us two teams next week cain. we were also pretty bad today with our skills. i do feel we ran and pressured ok today but we butchered the footy and lavo made us pay. they refused to alter from their game plan and it won them the game easily. they push alot of numbers behind the footy and give their good couple of players space to run into and our guys just couldnt make lavo pay with our field kicks. kennedy i feel had not much impact and 90% of his touches was well behind play or as if he was a 5 foot 6 onballer at the back of the pack but he is a good player and sides will have to worry about him.

We will be working really hard during the week to get some of our 8 or 9 senior players back to play and with the inclusion of 1 (posibly 2) div 1 recruits to line up for us next week, we have to put in a big game and hopefully come home with a win. and we know that yarra will be out to prove themselves so could be an interesting game. i look forward to the challenge.

got any inside info for me cain......lol

The way Cain and Evo are making excuses it should be a draw but going on past posts Cain's expectations go from top 3 to top 4 or 5, to 5th to nothing.

Evo seems like a good coach....Wyndhamvale by 29pts. (Did i spell that right Evo?)....

Neither side to make it....Laverton to finish 5th.

we beat some 1. quiet convincley as well.
there was one question mark over our head and tjhat was our hardness at the ball. but we proved that against the hardest side in the comp. we still have a long way 2 go but good 2 get the win over a class outfit in albanvale
