What about Brad Ottens falling off a ladder and landing on a wooden stake in the groin area.:eek: A few pre-seasons ago if I remember correctly.

Perhaps thread should be titled worst injury in the last 10 years, as the Sachse injury is something I hope we never have to see happen on a football field ever again.
yeah this is far and away the worst injury to happen to someone on the field. at least we haven't had any incidents of what happened to the likes of marc-vivien foe, the cameroon soccer player who died on the pitch a few years back.
a wikipedia search reveals this has happened several times in pro soccer, so i consider our game lucky to have never experienced this kind of tragedy at professional level.

From those mentioned Browny's leg, but the worst occured behind the play when some filthy St Kilda bastard (name escapes me at the minute) felled John Greening who never fully recovered and died more than once in the hospital that night.

jim o'dea, greening would've won charlie that year. spent close to 2 years out of the game.

Worst I've seen in any sport is the NHL goalie who gets his throat cut in a goalmouth collision - the commentators screamed to take the cameras off him because it looked for all money like they were watching someone die.

Apparently there were 2 heart attacks and numerous faints in the stadium at the sight too.

Only survived because the team doctor was a combat medic in Vietnam and pinched the artery shut with his fingers until it could be sutured.

Also widely available on YouTube.

just watched this, worst injury i've ever seen. can't believe the refs went straight to the fight and not the player. if you have a bad stomach then don't watch.
afl, hentschels knee and osbornes knee, osborne also had a fit on the ground when playing for sydney which looked pretty scary.

Remember seeing that, :eek: :eek: :eek:

However, considering he survived, Does Bill Masterton take the cake? Fell over on the ice while not wearing a helmet as he was checked, crazy stuff. He died of the ensuring brain injury later.

Makes you glad no AFL player has died on the field. *touches wood*

Took over 300 stitches to repair the damage. Clint Malarchuk was his name.

Jason Dunstall getting a fractured skull after diving into Earl Spaldings leg in 89.

Sorry for the massive bump, but I saw James Hirds injury last night and it was horrific.

Also read an article that Spike McVeigh had ongoing knee problems because of it.

Jeff White being kicked in the face by Steven King, Elimination Final 2005. It wasn't gruesome, but you could hear the impact on the TV, & he needed two steel plates & eleven screws put into his face.

Snell.

They had to fuse his ankle together.

Ankle went through his sock into and through his boot.

True that he walks with a stick these days?

Also some footage around of it.

I haven't been around for too long so from the one's that I've seen Nathan Brown takes it with Hird's face and Hentschel's knee close seconds. Brown's was just gruesome and cringing to watch. His leg was completely out of shape afterwards.

oh god so many sickening memories
I voted Brownies leg, mainly because
a) I dont really like him
b) its a disgusting vivid memory, first thing that comes to mind when I read the injuries list in the paper

Anyone remember Abrahams leg when he bumped into Hirdy?
knee injury ended his career

I wouldve added these ones too
- Dustin Fletcher lost heaps of teeth a ew years back
- Jeff White getting kicked in the face, then having plates put in his face
Caracellas head collision that left him pretty much unable to walk

Guess some nt that bad, just shocking

remember jamie lawson?

Broke his leg, and was told he'd miss 2 years from the outset.

Jason Snell. I remember him screaming in pain and he will never be able to run again.

What about Neil Sacks? He's a paraplegic still.

A footscray player who became a paralegic after his second game (against Fitzroy)

He played for North Adelaide in the SANFL before hand.

I beleive it was in the 70s but it could of been in the 60s

* Trent Hentchel's serious knee injury
* James Hird getting hit in the face by his own teammate and walking off with a bloody face!
* Nathan Brown's broken leg (the worst injury I've ever seen)
* Tom Lonergan's kidney injury
* Jason Snell's broken leg
* Tarykn Lockyer's nasty knee injury (he is now in career best form)
* Blake Caracella's broken neck!
* Brent Harvey's dislocated elbow.
* Anyone who hyperextends their knee (Mitch Hahn, Jarrad Waite, etc)

One of the worst injures ever in pro sports was NBA basketball player Shaun Livingston who at the time was playing for the LA Clippers breaks his leg and injures his knee awfully after landing on a straight leg. This happened in 2006, he missed the next 2 seasons before coming back in 08-09 to play 4 games for the Miami Heat and several more games for The Oklahoma City Thunder late in the season. He tore every ligament in his knee, (ACL, PCL, MCL, LCL, patella, quad) and dislocated it horrendously.

Here is the video. I'm warning you, this is gruesome.

Did any of you see Eduardo Da Silva's injury last season, truly horrific. Same goes for the one sustained by Wilfied Bouma.

I seem to remember Luke Toia sustaining a nasty injury at some point, but I was young at the time so my memory of it isn't overly clear. Did this actually happen? Or am I fabricating it? :D
