Oh boy, birds of a feather flock together
Indeed.

Collingwood and Sydney have a healthy respect for one another after playing in numerous recent big finals based on both teams regularly putting themselves in premiership contention.

Both well run clubs who understand what it takes to build a list profile to consistently contend for premierships.

3 flags in 60 years and of course teh best 'friends' they can pick ar a nother bunch of loser AFL pets in Sydney whatever they are suppossed to be - talk about embarassing a GF which is oveer by quarter time...

and they want to talk about other Clubs? lols a plenty on here from the dirty birders...

If it's any consolation, as a non vic I don't think either Carlton or Collingwood will trouble the finals in 2025. The final 8 will be mostly Interstate teams.😁

Exactly!
Fadge has the mental capacity to multi task unlike Carlton posters it seems.
Trolling Carlton isn't exactly difficult or time consuming for him. He's mastered the art of shit talking Carlton on Bigfooty while in the office doing his actuarial job or at home doing the wipper snipping, waxing his pubes, cooking a souvlaki, driving his Monaro, on the dance floor busting moves. Hell he does it when he's asleep.
Can't think of a life situation where Fadge couldn't post about how shit Carlton is.

Appreciate that many dont grasp moneyball concepts.

The point being that the As deliberately stopped over-rating kids, and focused on bringing mature players to their list who had proven output, would immediately make their list stronger, and weren't just potential.

AFL it holds true, the teams that dominate all the early picks GC and Carlton aint contended for a premiership.

Clubs that manage their list well, but rarely get access to elite draft picks, and target mature players who improve the list like Geelong, Sydney are the teams who are consistently contending.

But yes, Carlton fans still love talking about potential and what a player might blossom into in the future...reality is most kids wont get anywhere near AA quality.

It is a much safer bet to recruit a mature player who is already proven as an AA quality AFL player.

Must be hard to follow a club who doesnt contend for premierships and has instead settled on being a development club only.
Moneyball is about finding players using analytics that are undervalued in the market relative to the impact they would have on the team.

Ignoring the draft/young players in baseball is fine when you don't have a hard salary cap which is the case in MLB. However, in the AFL and most other sports you don't have that luxury.

Despite having to get my 'nuffy text interpreter' out for this post....

Does anyone else find it ironic that a Carlton supporter is commenting on 'Sydney's embarrassing Grand Final performance', when it is the same year as possibly THE most embarrassing finals performance in the history of the game, by his own team, in an Elimination Final'?

I would suggest Blueshakes were born that day, Blues have never recovered from that wipe-out against the Dees after going in hot favourites and leading by 5 goals

Going back in time hey ? Were you alive when the pies were up by 7 goals in a GF ?
What a time it must have been back then to be a pies supporter - high fiving each each at half time, planning the nights festivities.
Or even being 5 goals up in a GF against west coast on your home deck, and wobbling away to disaster , again. Fun times indeed

It's ironic that you try and shift focus from your own sides shitful 2024 campaign. Should be embarrassed

Way, way, wayyyyyy more complex than that.

The original Moneyball approach is based entirely on analytics and overlooking 'undervalued' skills (& other things). The idea that it's just some theory based on 'mature players with proven output therefore less risky than kids' is just wrong.

If you can explain to me how the recruiting of 32yo Scott Hatteberg, his OBP, relative salary & 'proven output' is similar to the recruiting of Harry Perryman, I'm all ears.

Fully understand the concept, particular if your team is playing finals , but Collingwood didn't play finals in 2024 and have to breaks records to achieve ultimate success. Don't see it happening

you are getting schooled and are too ummm...'slow' to even see it...

like Sydney CoLA - you dirty birders are expert at participation awards and failures in the big dances..

really a waste of time trying to lift the 'game' of banter with you more simple minded (NTTAWTT) folk.

Great work Cobbers. Another classic self own from Wormy

You're pretty handy on the Photoshop or whatever that is.
Any chance you could do the Once Were Warriors movie poster with a Carlton theme? I don't have the skills.
Not my work I'm afraid, not that talented
