I'm not going to argue this decision from 2022 - in my opinion it was a free kick to Saad and I said it at the time. Not only is it illegal to shepherd when the ball is more than 5m away but also you can't block someone from a marking contest. I don't think there is any significant holding from either player.

Regardless, not why we lost the game and back on topic this one clip does not prove anything about Saad's defensive work. In fact, despite him being blocked and being 1-on-2 he used his pace/closing speed to at least put Elliot under a bit of pressure when going for goal.

Wasn't it Saad that cost Carlton a finals birth because he couldn't deal with a one on one and was up the ground chasing glory and cheap kicks. Realised he had left his man and panicked. Does not have a defensive bone in his body.

re the Elliot goal - that was all on Stocker - who broke team rules again and wandered downfield - he was delisted. Preceeding that was a totally F'd kick from Durdin striaght to the chest of an unmarked Collingwod defender - when he had Curnow in the goal square...

that game costa finals birth - much to the delihgt and relief of Collingwood butthe real 'stinger' was the game before when a totally bothced regulation kcik to an unmarked Saad on a flank - from Owies with w aminute to go - led to a turnover nd a goal from melbum to steal the game...

Thankfully that spud Owies is now plying his spudness elswhere...
