It's probably more of an issue 2027 onwards anyway. The list profile is perfect for contending the next couple of years and a lot can change with the 23 and unders in that amount of time.
I think many see the Blues list collapsing when Cripps retires, but I actually think we'll be okay when he steps away.

When Curnow, Mckay and Weitering finish up is when we'll really face some difficulties imo, which should hopefully be another 4-5 years away at the earliest.

Carlton. They have the list profile of a team that has been top 4 and contenting for a flag for 4 or so years.

10 players over 30 next year. A large bundle in the 28-29 bracket.

2025 and 2026 is really make or break with this build. If they get injuries to the wrong players poor old vossy won’t be coaching the blues in 2026.
Players age end of next season

Over 30 - 5, not 10

30 - 3

28-29 - 5, not a large bundle

Yes Richmond is a prime candidate as while their older list is not huge, they are at the bottom of the ladder by a comfortable margin and losing Lynch is going to hurt a lot. Not easy to replace.
Richmond are in no trouble list wise. We just replenished the list and will pick up mature free agency players.

Footywire says you have 10 players who will be 30 or older next year and 6 in the 28-29 bracket. 6 is a large bundle, you can only play 23 a week. Concerning times for the blue baggers Arr0w.

Problem with blues is concentration of talent and lack of depth. If Cripps and Wietering get any long term injuries it’ll be very tough.

I think if either of curnow, McKay, Walsh etc get injuries you can kind of manufacture something and be fine. But Cripps and Wietering would be really bad for Carlton’s ability to remain competitive.

The same could be said about most teams losing their best players.

How would the Lions go without Andrews and Neale?
The Pies without Moore and Daicos?
GWS without Hogan and Green?
Geelong without Cameron and Danger?

Seems a bit silly to argue the Blues are any different.

We played this season without Andrews where we also had no other tall defenders because the other 5 were injured. Played Eric Hipwood as our only tall defender. Won.

Next question.

You played without Andrews for one game - surely you can't be drawing anything conclusive from one game.

Carlton played without Weitering for 2 games in 2024 and won both (including Brisbane in Brisbane). Does that mean we are fine without him?

Ah the RUNVS annual ageist thread.

Is this the first year of this thread where Geelong aren't the leading vote winner?

As we have seen being the leading vote winner in this thread is clearly correlated with poor on field results. ;)
We should be in first place.

Our most important players from 2024: Stanley, Bews, Duncan, Cam Guthrie and Blicavs - are all close to the end. Most of them close to All Australian last year.

We played the Lions in round 0 last year without Weitering or Walsh and won.

We also played about a month and half in 2022 without Weitering and won half of our games.

Cripps has missed 5 games over the last 3 years and our record is 3-2 without him.

Next question

5 games in 3 years that’s mighty durable.

Sure is. However I had to correct it, it was actually 5 games in 4 years.

Either way Blues have never had an issue covering for Cripps and while Young is a space cadet, he's more than capable of covering Weitering when needed... Obviously not at the same standard but nobodies depth is.

14. Melbourne - 10
32+ - Melksham, Campbell, Gawn, May, McDonald
29-32 – Viney, McAdam, Salem, Billings, Petracca

27-29 – Langdon, Hore, Lever, Fritsch, Oliver
25-27 – Fullerton, Petty, Spargo, Chandler
23-25 – Sparrow, Pickett, Rivers
21-23 – Turner, Laurie, Bowey, Sharp, Woewodin, Howes, Van Rooyen, McVee, Moniz-Wakefield
Under 21 – Windsor, Tholstrup
Of Melbourne's 10 who are 29+ I only have 5 in our best 22, i.e. Gawn, May, Viney, Salem and Petracca.
