When will Marc Murphy Win the Brownlow?

Lol indeed.

Had to agree with you at the time he didn't look like winning one, more likely consistent top 15 finishes but he really has stepped up this year.

I don't subscribe to the theory that Judd will take too many votes off him, they will more than likely share the votes. I have Murph a little ahead of Judd but I feel if Murph polls better than expected he could already be ahead be 4-5 votes.

His chances have been raised with the exclusion of Mitchell, Moloney, Thomas and Selwood who are all there in the top 10 on my count.

The only real chances still left (aside from Judd and Murph) are probably Pendlebury, Boyd, Ablett and possibly Goodes and Priddis.

My top 10 FWIW:

Murphy - 18
Judd - 18
Pendlebury - 16
Mitchell - 15
Moloney - 15
Selwood - 15
Thomas - 14
Boyd - 14
Goodes - 14

So essentially anything could happen with the amount of time left but Murph is a huge chance!

I don't know how accurate I could be but it's a good way of keeping track.

Lack of a preseason last year ruined his season but now he has been able to get his body in the shape it needs to be. He has a better all-round game and is getting as much hard ball and clearances as Pendlebury and Selwood.

He'd be ahead of Judd right now and but I have a feeling Judd is about to hit some serious form.

I agree I knew he had his issues with the hip, hence my sarcastic comments last year in this thread about the Carlton Murphy double, put simply MM never had a chance.

But this year he's reached heights that I wasn't 100% convinced he could! I believe his spread from a contest is the key, its right up there with the best in the league, whenever he gets a possession as soon as he's delivered he sprints to the next contest and absolutely burns opponents.

Based on actual form he'd be ahead of Judd, however when it comes to Brownlow voting Judd just draws votes with ease. There are games where he'll have little impact but still poll his ones and two's and games where he may not have been the best but still get's the 3's.

Round 1 was a perfect example, my votes for that day would've been 3. Gibbs 2. MM 1. J Reiwoldt as them three were the best 3 over the course of the night. Yet you can bet dollars to donut's that Judd will walk away with 3 votes due to lifting that extra gear early in the last to help you get over the line.

I'm not having a go at Judd in any way shape or form its just that when there's a 50/50 decision with the votes more often than not the umpires go with Judd, which is why I doubt MM will win one while Judd is at the top of his game. Considering we don't know how long he'll be there for its really hard to vote on the poll.

I disagree about the rd 1 game, I thought Judd won us the game in the end and stood out at the end of the game. He could easily poll and it wouldn't be just because of his polling history or prestige.

That said, I can't even remember if I gave him votes or not.

I had him 4th or 5th in line that night as he was OK outside of that burst but not at his usual level (just goes to show how good his average level is I guess).

Mainly it just doesn't sit well with me that a player can play 15 minutes of great football and be rewarded with 3 votes because of it. Whereas another player can play 105 minutes of good football and overall contribute much more to the match and be overlooked for the 3.

Not to mention the fact that if a lesser player has a similar or better burst they will miss out on votes.

For instance Leigh Brown kicked 4 goals in 10-15 minutes of football to win us the game against the WB earlier this year, will that be enough to earn him a single vote let alone 3? Not a chance in hell, even though his overall burst had as much impact on the game as Judd's, because he wasn't in the best 3 on the ground over the course of the match.

Judd rightly or wrongly is judged differently to most other players for what he can do in 15 minutes as opposed to what others do for an entire match. I don't agree with it but its just the way the cookie crumbles.

Sorry Murphy, all the umpires see is Judd. They don't even know you're alive.

Judd gets three votes SOMETIMES when he doesn't deserve it - but who doesn't? Judd still plays good in these games because he's a great player.

Do you get tired of rubbishing the guys accomplishments by suggesting he wins everything via bias? It's a load of crap.

Take this junk to bay 13. Seriously. The guy's easily one of the top 3 midfielders/players in the competition and has earnt everything he's received.

Spot on, not really much I can add here. :thumbsu:

Especially when he hasn't even won a Brownlow yet and he's shooting his mouth off as if it's already in the bag. There's so much footy to be played between now and September.

I wouldn't bother acknowledging that fool guys, never come across him on the Carlton Board so he's obviously a trolling alias (you probably already know ;)).

I like your modesty, but unfortunately the Monday night before the GF is shaping up for a long night for all teams outside of Carlton this year, if the bookies have it right. Basically if Juddy don't get ya Murph will....

Well if you have a look at my count, that's the way I currently see it as well but as I said, there is a very long way to go.

Pendles is a real show though, I've got a feeling that he is about to hit a rich period of form. It's a shame Thomas was suspended because he too is in great touch.

Im amzed pendles isnt firmer! surely should be favourite or equal. Doubt it will be anyone bar a pendles, murphy, judd or mitchell (ineligable). Unless an outsider like priddis or cox can come thumping home

The thing in Pendles favour is that, like Judd, when he polls he generally polls the 3. According to the coaches he's been in the best 5 on the ground 8 maybe 9 times this year (the votes on the AFL website are different to the Collingwood website).

However with all of Swan (polled in 6 games), Thomas (5 maybe 6) and Cloke (7) to take votes from him I just think he'll find it harder than Judd and Murphy who will share most of Carlton's votes between themselves. I guess time will tell though.

Pendles polled really well in alot of games last year where I myself didn't expect him to even get one vote.He had games with like 25 disposals and was getting the three votes in a few games.

With him this year he has consistently got around the 29 disposal mark and when the game is up the grabs he always stands out.Only thing is that the umpires might take more notcie of a player who boosts their stats up later in games as it's fresher in their minds.

I think you'll find out pretty early on in the count if Pendles is gonna poll well and if he does I think he is a pretty good chance.Although I still think Judd will win it with how well he done last year(like 6 BOG's in a row:eek:)

That's just my 2 cents:)

He was voted BOG in 4 of those games by the Carlton board, as well as 3rd BOG in another, so it wasn't that surprising. Almost featured heavily in the Coaches votes - including the Collingwood game. His start of the season was phenomenal and anyone who did their research knew he'd poll well early (perhaps not as well as he did, but 12 votes was probably a minimum).

Hasn't come close to that thus far this year and I'd be surprised if he were ahead of Murphy at this stage of the season.
