This 4K version you have must be the new 20th Anniversary edition I presume?

Yes and I got my wires crossed, it was released in November, early December in Australia last year. The last time I watched it was in April. It's a great movie and one that could be watched xxxxx times a year.. i'm trying to not watch the same movies constantly (that's a battle within itself :p)

Im guilty of that too much. But you know what, who cares? If you going to be entertained and enjoy those 2 hours guaranteed, its no wonder you, me and many others watch movies multiple times. I do realize there are psychological reasons also associated with this, ie a sense of comfort, reduced anxiety etc etc.

I use Plex to watch my movies and it keeps count of my rewatches. I try and give it always 12 months between viewings.

Funnily enough despite multiple viewings, I always tend to pick up small things that I may have missed from the previous times.

I’m not really even counting those (essentially because I agree with you they’re both pretty okay).

I more mean Venom, Morbius, Madame Web and now Kraven.
I get ya but based on the reception of ASM2 you can argue that's where the issues begun with their complete mismanagement of spiderman.

I don't really like the first two Holland flicks either but the third was excellent, as far as the sony/mcu collaboration goes.

Oh I know I think 2-3 viewings of certain movies a year is fine 5+ is probably a bit much (unless it's different ? Like I recently watched Forrest Gump AGAIN, but it was more for background noise - had the director's commentary audio on).

And yeah some movies are really good for the multiple viewings aspect - I swear every time I watch The Prestige (something I haven't done in ages) I pick up something new or have a new perspective.

I don't use plex, I pretty much just 1:1 rip my purchases (dvd/bluray/4K) then play them as is on the NVidia Shield. Been backing up my media purchases for 20ish years now - and only started doing it as a fail safe when I had a dvd player that wrecked a few titles that were hard to find in store to replace them. Also helps with the lazy factor, instead of getting up and ejecting/changing discs, I just hit the menu and move on to the next title (if doing 2+ movies back to back lol).

Not only do I have a lot of physical media everywhere, but my hard drive back ups of everything is also... extreme :p

Sonys current slate has used characters barely ever (if ever) used on screen though. They’ve had nothing but original ideas and characters to do whatever they wanted. Morbius, Kraven and Madame Web are actually all pretty interesting and mostly unknown to the average audience, their possibilities were endless.

Venom is the only known quantity and even then, he’s only really known as a spider man villain in the awful 3rd installment of the Maguire trilogy.

The issue isn’t the characters in this instance.

You make a good point there, I'm not a superhero fan and have to admit I've never heard of Madame Web before the debacle film release earlier this year. Yet the idea for the Madame Web film overall wasn't bad, and did have some pretty good talent in the cast. One could put it down to just being a movie where nothing went right - certainly not the first or last time this has happened - but given the many other poorly received superhero movies released in recent years and how many movies in all genres bombed at the box office this year it forms a concerning trend.

One thing I did notice is that movies that stuck to the basics seemed to do better, like Twisters, this kept to the basics of being a good action/adventure/disaster film and did well commercially and critically. Perhaps superhero films have over-complicated themselves in recent years and not stuck to the basic formula of what made past movies in the genre successful? There's also the fact that times change, and while super-hero movies were all the rage in the mid-late 2010s, we are now in the mid 2020s, and in a very different world. Like supernatural romances involving vampires and werewolves were huge money-spinners in the late 2000s and early 2010s, but the genre has died away since then.

With so many different superhero characters perhaps if the genre was given a rest for a while, some good ideas and good films might well be made again in future years? I wouldn't call it a dead franchise, unlike Star Wars. Star Wars is over, it's done, stick a fork in it, turn off the oven and leave it to rest - it's been milked for all its worth and continuing to make Star Wars media is only flogging a dead horse and damaging the brand's legacy.

Agree with everything you’ve said only id note that Star Wars and most of the marvel cinematic universe is still making money (in spite of pretty average to poor critical reception).

So it’s unlikely they’ll shelve it anytime soon.

Also the trailer for the new Superman movie looks really good.

They will never ever shelve any movie franchise as long as it continues to make money.

A brand's legacy is for the most part irrelevant as long there is a profit or potential to make one.

Its why T7, yes you heard right Terminator 7 is apparently going ahead. Mind you, if they looked at the way Prey succeeded, they could make a decent movie. My understanding is that with T7, it will focus on AI and it will move on from Arnie and the Connors with also no connection to Dark Fate.

EDIT

In a Violent Nature - Too many slow walks, ok to show that at start but just wanted to press fast fwd. Just a gory slasher with some dumb kills.
Have to disagree on that point, the yoga kill scene is a strong contender for kill of the year. Awesome use of practical effects.

Fair enough not to like the movie though. Helps to know going in that it is meant to be subversive and the majority of it is literally watching the killer walk slowly around the bush.

I saw it at the theatre and found it kinda relaxing, which is not what most people want from a slasher 😁

Jason Bateman is so hot. Have you watched the Smartless behind the scenes show? It’s Bateman, Will Arnett (also hot af) and the guy who played Jack on Will and Grace.

It seems to be quite common for women to watch a movie because a hot man is in it. Margaret Pomeranz used to give an extra star if the male lead took his shirt off. In general, I don't think the male audience does that for female stars. That's an observation rather than being judgmental.

What makes a movie star 'hot'? It's not just about having model looks. Some actors have a certain screen presence. I don't think Naomi Watts or Rachel Weisz would walk the catwalk but they project sensuality.

why didn’t she just roll down the embankment towards thr water. Who would wait like that? And that guy at the end tried to distract the killer by yelling at his back within arms distance. Thought it looked odd. Thought the walking around last half felt like time filling

Big

Tom Hanks stars in this from 1988 as a kid who wishes they were bigger and gets his wish

There are iconic scenes in this - Heart and Soul in the toy store - trampoline and overall its still a good movie about losing that kid inside you

Sure theres a problematic romance but the overall story is wonderfully done

Robert Loggia , Elizabeth Perkins and John Heard all co-star

A brilliant movie

Hanks before he became self aware

I need a comfort watch recommendation please… something that will make me feel like less of an arseh*le. Alternatively, something that will lean into my foul mood. Either or!

Schindler’s List. You’re bound to feel like less of an arseh*le.

Is the original Star Wats trilogy on 4K Bluray?

Yeah, all 3 original movies are in 4K.

Last night on streaming service watched back-to-back Happy Death Day, and, Happy Death Day 2U

Not top shelf, but i really enjoyed them despite their flaws and limitations. Twist on the time loop trope.

Also watched Palm Springs (another time loop movie) the day before the day before yesterday, and also enjoyed it tho not top shelf.

It's actually amazing. How can so many movies from the same franchise be so consistently bad despite talent and experience and high budgets? It's almost impossible.
