Greene and Cameron are the two others that come to mind if you aren't just talking about midfielders (which I assume you aren't since you also mentioned Bud).Dangerfield and Martin are the only players Bont is really competing against to be the best of the last decade, but he's still a bit of a way baback.
Yep, incredible footballer. Max Gawn needs to be in the conversation too I think.I feel like Cripps in particular gets overlooked too much because of the shambles that is Carlton.
Agree, shots after the siren not included though. Imagine down by 1, hitting the post and knowing if you missed by 3m more it would’ve been a better resultThere shouldn’t be any posters. If the ball hits the post and goes through it’s a goal, if it comes back into play, play on etc… would be more exciting and eliminate goal umpire error.
Agree wholeheartedly with the bolded, but not the italic'd (fair enough to call play on if it rebounds off the behind post, but not the goal post)There shouldn’t be any posters. If the ball hits the post and goes through it’s a goal, if it comes back into play, play on etc… would be more exciting and eliminate goal umpire error.
Needs to kick more goals, both Dusty and Danger have kicked more goals than Bontempelli since 2014.Agree with this, the only player I've ever seen that does every single element of the game perfectly. Add to that, with his height he can play as a rover or full forward and still dominate.
Needs to kick more goals, both Dusty and Danger have kicked more goals than Bontempelli since 2014.
He is going to be one of the greats though, if he can keep producing what he has been for another 5 years.
I agree, but if we're rewarding shots that miss the main goal area by up to 7 metres, it'd be incongruous to not get reward from a shot that misses by 7 centimetres. It is pretty darn exciting when the ball hits the post and you need to react to it in league or union.
You could pay the point but play on. It isn't the same obviously, but in RL especially, hitting the posts with a kick can be a strategy to attempt to generate confusion in the defence to assist with scoring.I agree, but if we're rewarding shots that miss the main goal area by up to 7 metres, it'd be incongruous to not get reward from a shot that misses by 7 centimetres.
Well this is an unpopular opinion thread I guessYep, incredible footballer. Max Gawn needs to be in the conversation too I think.
Max gawn has been pretty extraordinary. I do think his best "skill" is dropping back against teams that blindly bomb it forward. That doesn't tend to work well against competent teams.Well this is an unpopular opinion thread I guess
Oh, that could be fun. Get a Joe the Goose over the top in the goal square and just tap the ball 5-6 times on the post. When the last defender finally catches up with you, then just kick it through. Result - 1 goal, 5-6 'rushed' behinds. You could pay the point but play on.

You've really just backed up my point. He's been injured for the last four years and prior to that he played in a shit side. Fyfe not being good in finals is a myth. He played most of a prelim final with a fractured leg and was still one of our best.I think you're both misunderstanding me (and possibly the bloke who initially posted the big Bont call). This is about the last decade. Anything pre 2014 is not relevant.
Fyfe has been magnificent, and a better player than Bont across his whole career - possibly my favourite non-Tiger player of the last 20 years. But between 2014-2023, there's no doubt he's had a lesser overall output than Danger, Dusty and Bont. For starters, he's only averaged about 13 games/year for the last 8 seasons. 2019 he was phenomenal, but for the other 7 years he's had <50 Brownlow votes in total. Just not comparable to those other three, especially given his lack of finals and finals output.
Ablett and Franklin are all-time greats, and their careers in entirety far outweigh that of Bont. Absolute hall of famers, the pair of them. But both did most of their best work pre-2014, and neither have even secured in a premiership during that time. In fact, while Buddy was pretty decent in the losing 2016 GF, both had shockers in 2020 (GAJ injured early) and 2022 (Buddy should've stayed at home) GFs respectively.
Dangerfield and Martin are the only players Bont is really competing against to be the best of the last decade, but he's still a bit of a way back.
Fyfe's poor kicking in his only GF is not a myth. It cost Fremantle a flag. They could have broken hawthorn in that first quarter. You've really just backed up my point. He's been injured for the last four years and prior to that he played in a s**t side. Fyfe not being good in finals is a myth. He played most of a prelim final with a fractured leg and was still one of our best.
It's all subjective, but I agree Ablett and Franklin are top of the pile. In my maybe unpopular opinion.
It would add enormous interest, and kill the tanking model, but for a variety of reasons it just would not work.A promotion relegation system for the Melbourne Clubs would add enormous interest
