What is Perth's shittest suburb?

Wont lie to you, I didnt grow up in the Western suburbs of Perth but now live there. I don't think even at my age i feel quite connected with the community out there.

Alot of kids that grew up in this area tend to stick with their networks even into their adults. Maybe I need to get out and about more but meh

I grew up in both those suburbs.

I sort of consider my family to be 'emerging affluent' than 'establish affluent'.

But having worked in the western suburbs with family business for 21 years and living in the area i think for a decade.

Parents came a bit more from a working class background. A person who to I spoke to in the past, it was their goal to buy themselves a home in western suburb.

The only reason people are in Perth city these days is

1. they work/live there
2. Friday/Saturday night on the way to Northbridge
3. If there is a random show/event that is in the city.
4. they are homeless

There is no longer a need to go into town. most of the major stores can be found in other larger suburbs further out. Also with the way Perth suburbs are growing, its becoming more of a hike to get into town. Another factor is the growth in telecommunications. no longer do you need to attend a head office of a company, or go to the main branch. Most major companies can sort out your issues over the phone, or even online. Add in online shopping with postage costs that are cheaper than travel costs into the city, and either the time spent trying to get public transport, or car parking costs. In my view, the idea of the Perth city as we knew it started to fade in the mid 90's as urban sprawl and the internet took effect, it has now been replaced with larger urban centres such as victoria park, cannington, booragoon etc.

Perth's CBD and core are in a much better position than in the 90s or early 00s, it's getting substantial public and private investment and the process of urban accumulation is an ongoing process. Isn't the same amount of money sloshing around as 2013 but it's built environment is much improved. People in centrally located suburbs like Victoria Park, Mt Lawley/ Inglewood, Subiaco do go to the city just not with the regularity that people did in the past and that's a structural change.

Perth isn't growing into a multipolar city; it's developing a typical power core with some peripheral centres based around consumer goods and education/ health services. The centres in Perth are mostly historical in nature Fremantle, Midland, Cannington, Morley, Joondalup & Rockingham. Booragoon & Karrinyup are isolated shopping centres that won't displace adjacent Joondalup or Applecross while high Street suburbs like Subiaco, Victoria Park, Mt Lawley, Inglewood and Maylands are residential/ hospitality hot spots. It's their proximity to the city that drives them, and they're become increasingly sought after.

Why do socially isolated and apathetic suburbanites lament homelessness in the city when it's individuals from their own "communities" who have been forced to seek refuge and resources in the city?

To paraphrase, the only reason people go to Perth City are:

• A) Their job is there, or they reside there
• B) If they don't work or live there, they are attending bars and restaurants
• C) If not a or b, then they are likely attending for entertainment purposes

Your assessment is basically that the only thing lacking is retail brick and mortar stores, but your very next sentence negates this by pointing out that online shopping renders this pointless anyway.

As someone who works in the TransPerth system, it's a case of take your pick as to the crappiest suburb.

Most of the south eastern corridor from Vic Park to Byford.
Most of the midland area (Swan View/Stratton). Beechboro and Lockridge not far from there. Ellenbrook is becoming the Armadale of the north east (if not already there)
North to KGB (Koondoola/Girrawheen/Balga) not forgetting Nollamara and parts of Balcatta. Merriwa (Balga by the sea) and Clarkson.

Probably a heap more but this will make up a sufficient buffet

I live in West Swan and catch the bus down Lord St, some pretty dodgy folk around the region of Kiara, Eden Hill & Lockridge. Basically the shittiest suburbs are were homewest houses are.

a lot of the homes west units/apartments in Armadale were sold off a number of years ago to fund new houses in ellenbrook. coincidence that ellenbrook is now so dodgy?
