What does 2012 have in store for Kyle Cheney?

Whilst Hawthorn are a premiership contender i honestly can't see him ever being first 22, i just think he has to many short falls.

He doesn't have the class and skill level of your Birchall's, Suckling's and Guerra's. He doesn't have the defensive capabilities of a murphy and i can't see Clarkson in an ideal world playing more then 1 ultra defensive player under 190cm's.

To be honest i don't think he is of AFL standard and in the limited games he does have will probably look better then what he is because of the quality of the side and he's follow defenders.

FWIW all things being equal with hes far better athletic qualities i believe Litherland will go past Cheney

It really depends on whether or not he shows any improvement this year. He is a classic HBF and does not appear to have the skills to play mid or forward. Frankly, if he can't get a regular gig in defence he wouldn't even be in the queue for a midfield berth.
At the moment he needs an injury to one of the main defenders to get a game and in the future he will face competition from Litherland, Langford and maybe Kelly who all may be capable of playing the HBF and on unrealised potential appear to have more to offer in the long term.
In the short term he needs to get past Murphy to get a game (barring injury to anyone else) and whilst I am not uncritical of Murphy he played pretty well last year.
However on balance I think both Murphy and Cheney are just outside our best defensive six or seven.

.

I would like to see him trialled as a defensive fwd or midfielder/tagger at Box hill to see if we can add another strings to his bow. He is reasonable height at 186cm to play the Ling type role - maybe thats his future/maybe not. To me he is becoming a classic depth player who may yet find better oppurtunitys at another club - unfortunately. But I believe he has the dedication/ability to be a solid 50 to 100 game player, but maybe not with us.

He is better on the offense than Murphy but not as good on defense. Also i dont think Litherland is as fit as cheney so that may be holding litherland back abit.

Will he be flying to the U.S for some intensive training with Uncle Dick?

I've said it many times ill say it again lol

Back 6

Guerra Gilham Gibson
Birchall Schoenmakers Stratton

Suckling Wing/Half Back/7th man! :)

Back Ups: Murphy, Cheney, Boumann 197cm (Our tallest defender)
Not quite ready: Litherland, Kelly, Boseley. (All will develop at BH in 2012)

Cheney by 2013, will take Murphy role as that medium size defender, who can play on the medium size forwards and small forwards. He played 8 Games in 2011. In Season 2012, he will play more games. Some where between 10-12 Games. I see Cheney as a long term player. He is still only 22. I hope he gets a good run at it. If he takes his chance and grabs it with 2 hands then who know's what might end up happening in september! :)

Seeing Birch listed on that flank always gives me shivers... He played the other side the majority of 2011 (Burgs on that side) & his one-sidedness was barely noticed, let alone a liability.

HB: Stratton Schoenmakers Birchall ;)

Hahaha

It's hard to play everyone on their "preferred side" when they are all bloody left footers!!

Except for Mitchell, his foot skills are very good! I think we have more then 20 Left footers on our list! But Im not sure about Boumann Kelly Boseley? Frank can kick on both feet but is he a natural left footer?
