What are West Coast trying to do?

In a time where clean skills are more important than ever, they've picked Allan, gross and Davis . But , because they were rated higher on amateur phantom drafts compared to where they were picked congrats to Eagles supporters.
Define clean skills.

Richmond 3-peated recently with 'shit' skills and now teams are trying to emulate that heavily contested style.

All 5 players we took are big, tough and fast and all are capable of cleanly gathering the ball off the ground at pace.

You can be the best kick in the game but if you can't even get the ball to begin with, it's useless.

And if anyone is doyen of failure, it would be a Freo supporter.
no shit sherlock...

Dockers didnt play finals once between 2016 to 2021.

Spin it all you want. This current eagles rebuild was never gonna be a quick one.

Getting kids for the sake of it doesnt work 100 percent at the time. You need the right people to turn this club around.

Eagles havent made finals for 4 seasons in a row. Slim chance of eagles making finals in 2025. But I think they are in the right direction

The Eagles will finish above North Melbourne, Melbourne, Richmond and Geelong in 2025.

Take it to the bank.
Yep, with the list they’ve got there’s no excuse for finishing bottom 6. Anything lower than 12th would be a complete failure of their system and / or an indication that the players aren’t on board with the new coach.

Bring in Dodoro to get the list back into tip top shape!

Geelong and demons will finish higher than eagles though.

Ye of little faith

Geelong and Melbourne are on the downhill slide. The Eagles are moving up into the world.

lol

Congratulations WC draft haul appears decent, on the surface

However I still wouldn’t go patting Clarke or your list management on the back as most of your picks came down to good luck not good management - that doesn’t change your questionable trade period moves

Remember obeanie son …even a broken clocks right twice a day ;)
Surely trading back from 15 to 16 and still getting our target in Allan and pick 45 (Gross) was good management?

So when the list management team makes bad decisions they are hopeless.
When they make some good decisions it is just plain good luck.
We are just happy that they didn't go Pieman.

Always trust a freo fan to give west coast advice on how to undertake a successful list management strategy.

Now if north offered a future first to get back in the 2nd round, just sit and think what you paid for Bolton…he better win the Brownlow.

We aren’t trading in clocks.

Think West Coast did very well with the picks they had. Davis at 65 looks a bargain. Looks like a good group of different types of players. Obviously there will be a Jagger Smith watch but nothing they could do about that come draft night.

eagles will finish above North Melbourne and richmond.

Geelong and demons will finish higher than eagles though.
Not sure about Dees. From an outsiders view the club seems to be falling apart.

Why are you so concerned about Freo? Surely you can be a bit excited/interested in who Eagles brought in? Maybe give us an insight or comment how you see them fitting in?

I've never understood how some people would rather froth at the mouth about another club rather than have an interest in their own.

As an outsider looking into the club I am genuinely confused as to what they're doing with their list, they haven't bottomed out yet, they still have numerous older players yet to hang up the boots, yet they've decided to bring in 3 mature age players, and opted to trade away their #3 draft pick when ideally this is the time they'd be trying to stock pile young players and develop them as part of their future core, do they genuinely believe they can make one last gasp effort for finals?

I don't know, the Fremantle supporter in me would be happy to see them down the bottom for years to come, but the objective part of me is just wondering whether this is strategic or pure incompetence on their behalf?
I think the execution of the strategy is debatable with the trade for Baker, but, the strategy in general of trying to add kids and maintain on-field structure makes sense.

Kids develop quicker with well defined roles and having some senior guys around to support that for me makes perfect sense.

This is basically how geelong have been navigating the cliff since 2019. This year I think could get a bit rough for us but otherwise it's been a good strategy

Maybe it's because it's my club and I follow them closely so I can see exactly what they're doing. Pretty sure the new heads of the club have had enough of seeing the team getting pumped by 70+ points every week so they're bringing in players from a specific age range to try and stop the bleeding when shit goes south quickly.

I'm not gonna defend the trading back from 3 to get Baker, but my God were we kissed on the c*ck with the draft. Drafting top picks for a ground zero club is never a guarantee, ask Melbourne how that went for Scully, Trengove, Cale Morton and Jack Watts

But what’s the point of clean skills if you cannot get or retain the ball in the first place?

Focusing on clean skills is great if you can get/retain the ball, but that’s not how I describe the current West Coast team pre-draft.

There’s more than one way of becoming a successful team. To each their own, but I think West Coast did very well in the draft.
