I can guarantee you, they are taught all these things at training, and I have seen these girls do these drills, positioning and strategies at training and make them look good.
The difference between our players and the players that play at Melbourne and some of these other top sides is that when they get into the heat of battle, they can still perform the same drills and movements and set ups they do at training.
Our players tend to get flustered on game day, and everything that they’ve been taught goes straight out the window, and they just bomb blindly under pressure because they’re not composed. This isn’t just our junior players, this is some of our senior players as well. The amount of times I’ve seen a senior player standing at the top of the 50 ignore the lead of one of her teammates in space, to then kick it long to the goal square straight to 4 opposition players standing by themselves, is enough to drive any coach mad.

Lots of that is down to coaching though. Coaching is more than just implementing the right drills and making sure players do them correctly, there's a mentality and confidence element that they need to build from the top. Confidence in yourself, your teammates and your gameplan comes a lot from how a coach delivers their message and interacts - I think a lot of the getting flustered and taking the wrong option things you're talking about stem from feeling hesitant/uncertain and going into shells. Craig McRae wasn't a good coach this year just because of his drills or strategies, he took a group with a bunch of difficult personalities and gave them the confidence to play instinctively and for each other.

You hear those comments from Prior sulking about playing a good team after being gifted an easy fixture so far and still not winning games - I'd want a coach giving us the mentality of "we want to play the best teams in the league and challenge ourselves, cause that's who we'll need to beat in finals, that's our goal." No wonder our players are getting flustered by a good side if the coach is flustered by just being fixtured to play them

Imagine you're a young kid in the team. You only know you're playing well when it results in good things. That's how you build confidence, you do some stuff on the field, it works, it makes good things happen, you feel good about yourself. You feel confident. You learn what works and what doesn't work, what your strengths and weaknesses are, etc.

And then you get stuck with a really bad coach. He tells you to do stuff. You do it, and it doesn't work. Oh no! I must really suck! Your confidence takes a hit. You try to fix it by doing other stuff that the coach suggests, that doesn't work either. They have to carry out his gameplan because everyone needs to be on the same page, but at the same time they know it's not working, and so they get confused, flustered, doubting themselves, etc.

The idea that this is somehow the players' fault is ridiculous. It's like trying to put together some Ikea furniture by following instructions, but you can see the instructions are wrong. I screw what into what? That can't possibly fit there? But that's what the instructions say, so I have to, right? Pretty soon you'll be throwing things at the wall and hating life.

IMO Prior should be coaching from the boundary line, shouting the encouragement after a stuff up, and barking out the instructions to his players.

Be there for immediate reinforcement to the girls as they rotate through the bench.

Well thats how I would be doing it.

When we drafted Thomas and passed on Franklin I was pretty pissed off.

Credit where credit is due it was 100% the correct call.

Rolling on to the here and now, I cant believe how badly Amy Franklin has regressed.

Thomas is going to something special.

Not sure what we do with Franklin ?????

Any suggestions from other posters???
A 6 week intensive fitness camp is what Franklin needs, miles off the necessary standard.

lol goddamn he is just begging them to fire him now.

Or is he taunting the club over some unseen leverage he has over them which means that they can't fire him?

Never could coach. He has gotta go! Pathetic response today, blaming scheduling for crying out loud.

When you start looking for excuse and start pointing your finger to externals, it’s a good indicator that you are struggling and have NFI.

Now if we had a decisive CEO he would see this as a cry for help as Prior is out of his depth and is devoid of ideas as to how best remedy the plight he is in.

That said I don’t think that either WA AFLW team have an easy way out of their situations.
The young WA talent coming through is not up to standard just yet, and any National Draft to expand the draft talent pool, looks some time away.

Harsh reality is that both WA teams are in for a sustained period of mediocrity at best, and being cannon fodder for the better teams, at worst.

Not a particularly optimistic outlook for woman's football in WA in the near future.

Will this team ever be competitive? I don't even mean in terms of winning games. I just mean competitive...the league expanded way too early

The real issue with the women's comp, gap between the teams is vast due to the lack of a decent talent pool and will take awhile to equalize properly.
Prior's comments are embarrassing

Meanwhile my girl Niamh is chopping up at the Crows kicking sizzlers for fun

And doesn’t that just rub salt into the wound.

Club has made some pretty ordinary decisions across the board, as we know it’s time for a fresh set of 👀, after King Nissy 1 moves on.

Better program and better support around her. Watched her use her speed and her kicking has improved out of site!

Onto next draft - we may bring in a kid named Ella Slocombe. Fast and has great goal sense. Did really well in the combine

Had a very good season for Claremont.
Good all round game and is mid that also hits the scoreboard.

Lack of a deep talent pool shouldn't affect the gap between clubs, so long as what talent there is, is equally distributed and equally backed.

Neither of those things are true, and while they are not true, a deeper talent pool is as likely to make things worse, as better.

Looks like someone got a wrap over the knuckles

Due to the rapid expansion we have had a very restricted access to the draft and only have a handful of players from our inaugural team, it would get a lot uglier if we had greater access to talent. That restriction has made it very hard for us to bridge the gap between us and Demons/Crows, the shortage of talent due to a diluted pool is a huge barrier when it comes to winning a flag or beating the two best teams but i think it is easier to bridge the gap between the lower places sides and the mid tier sides.

Once you can pressure and tidy up the short game, you improve out of sight. You need a lot more than that to beat the Crows but the sides that have improved in recent years have just got much better at the basics and you don't need a superstar to tackle and pressure and hit someone with a short range kick or handball.

Everything about our women’s program is just grim.

Need a complete overhaul with an administration that actually cares about women’s footy and that will start with a new CEO hopefully.

Issue is these sort of comments reflect back onto the mens team given its consistent with a theme that we are a dumpster fire. Just so disappointing.

Not much use crying for help in a club that has/is out of its depth and devoid of ideas in every grade it has.

Our once ruthless club is a running AFL joke and Prior just re-confirmed this to all and sundry.
