Well considering the eagles 1st Decade in existence, I am not shocked.

A lot happened in WA and AFL from 1987-1996. Eagles struggled at 1st then had that 1990s finals run. Then dockers came into the comp in 1995.

But both Brisbane and west coast came into the comp in 1987. Both teams outcomes from 1987-1996 is night and day.

Look I know people talk about the eagles having a state side....

But I agree on Forward Press and that person's view.

The Victorian clubs took prime WA blokes like Earl Spalding and Nicky Winmar.

I mean Mark Bairstow was a decent bloke at South Freo. Had a good VFL/ AFL career at the cats between 1987-1994.

Had he waited 10 more days, he would of been an eagle.

Funny thing was that 35 man eagles squad had 7 blokes that played previously with VFL clubs.

There was a couple 18 year Olds in that 1987 eagles squad. Chris Lewis and John Worsfold.

Dean Laidley got his debut game in round 1 literally 2 days after his 20th birthday.

As posted, those 18-22 year Olds in 1987 were 24-28 year Olds in that 1992 flag.

Chesser was a shocking pick - I remember at the time he wasn't meant to go until mid 2nd round at best. List manager Brady Rawlings I think it was at the time trying to be smarter than everyone else, but look at WC and North's lists......both terrible.....he is shocking at his job

I pointed out several examples of how the current premiers Brisbane and grand final sides such as the Swans have several advantages in recruiting that teams currently finishing bottom do not have.

Made no comment blaming anyone for the current list situation at the Eagles. So feel free to stop making up things that were never said.

As for owning the current situation. Do you accept and support that current premiers should continue getting assistance and teams finishing bottom for years get no assistance at all? You happy with that set up?

The Eagles have usually been able to rely on getting a lot of local talent in the door who end up being guns.
For some reason or another this has dried up in the last five years.

Not sure if it's bad luck it the WAFL and Colts comps have dropped off or some other reason?

Regional WA also used to produce a lot of talent.
Fyfe, P Cripps etc etc.

Gold Coast was and is costing the AFL millions to prop up.

That's why they get assistance and continue getting it.

Same with the Lions, GWS and the Swans. And to a degree North.

Eagles are a cash cow and "wash their own faces" financially even when we are crap.

Not much incentive for the AFL to assist.

Now if the Eagles profits drop significantly then the dividend to the WAFL also falls significantly and WA state football funding dries up.

Is the AFL going to fund that shortfall?

Or does WA AFL funding just dry up and WA grass roots football suffer?
