Draft Review West Australian Junior Talent 2025 Draft

What a performance. Eight goals in one half. 8 straight in fact.

Some goals seemed to just fall his way while others showcased some elite skill and poise.

I hope he can get on the score board regularly from now on. Nothing wrong with humble 3 or 4 goal hauls. If Ryda can do that he will surely get looked at for the WA squad and maybe more.

Thanks to noobermensch for this Ryda Luke player in focus video. He has a lot more on his Footy Stuff youtube channel.

Just wondering why Clancy Dennis doesn’t get a mention as an overager? 28/12/06 birthdate, 4 days off being his legitimate draft year.

Seems strange not included in WA squad as “overager”.
I'll add him to the overagers to watch list if he either plays a colts game or gets in the WA squad for sure. I think WA might need him down back as we do lack tall key defenders.

EDIT: Actually, your point about him being only 4 days off from a 2007 DOB is very valid. I'll add him in anyway even if he "seems" to be part of the senior Claremont squad.

Actually, I think Ryda Luke (SF) was a late addition to the WA summer squad exhibition game?

Rumour is that the State squad has been announced but I can’t find it anywhere. Is anyone able to confirm

If it has, you might get a response back from WA Football if you email them.

I was hoping they might wait one more week, as we've only had 3 rounds. Having said that, I guess they can add players at any time later on.

I see your point for sure about Jake Caton (EP). Very talented....rate him big time

But Luke Carrello (EF) and Rydn Rae Anthonysz (S) have closed the gap for that role - by enough? Who knows?

Don't get me wrong, I rate all three. What a wonderful thing it is that WA have genuine choices this year.
What about Oscar Wills ?
I love what he is doing
Rydn Rae Anthonysz does look classy
Luke Carrello will be back pocket that where he played in trial game

Yeah I agree with you. Willis is 100% in the squad for mine.

We could do with some taller backs if Cody Curtin is going to be a forward.

But who?

Jimmy Aylmore (S/193cm) played a wonderful game on the weekend and was in the WA 16's squad in 2023.

Clancy Dennis (CL/195cm) might be needed as an overager.

Kael Wallace (EP/192cm) is injured and I'm pretty sure I saw Frazer Rickson (S/198cm) go down injured on the weekend.

Matthew Becker (PT/190cm) appears to be more of a flanker/utility now.

Lucas Cattalini (SF/190cm) plays tall because of his tremendous marking although his kicking action can be a worry. In fairness his kicks go where he wants them to.

Lochlan Carpenter (WP/194cm) is workmanlike and credit to him, he did play league in the pre-season games and Harley Cummings (SD/192cm) is progressing well.

Some below agers might get a chance. Mitchell Stirling (PT/195cm), Jai Debono (SD/190cm), Elijah Dennis (CL/191cm) and medium talls only listed as being 187cm in George Gale and Tom Brown (Both Claremont) might be considered.

TBH, I'm a little worried.

All other areas look good for WA

What about Max Donnelly from East Perth as an overager.190 cm but plays taller

Yeah I rate him very highly.

Let's say we have Lucas Ravenhill (CL/199cm) up forward as one overager as he was in the summer squad so AFL clubs are interested.

I've heard that another overager McCartney Murdoch (SD/206cm) is a big chance to be included as a ruckman seeing as he is new to footy and is taller than anybody who will play in the champs.

Toby Jones (S/187cm) is a bit of a utility sensation having been hidden away in PSA and originally from Gibson - a 12 hour drive away from Perth.

Then we might need Max Donnelly (EP/190cm) and/or Clancy Dennis (CL/195cm) to tie up some loose ends down back.

I wonder if the AFL will let us include 4/5 overagers?

Denholm Melrose is doing some good work getting these WA blokes on the radar. I don't know him personally but I think he might have played for the Black Ducks.

Here is a Judd Marcello (WP) profile

I believe the squad has been finalised and the players that have made the squad were notified on monday. The squad will be released to the public later this week i have heard.

With a surname the likes of which he has and him covering WA talent, he's gotta have some ties to Graham Melrose.

I did watch Lochlain Carpenter in the pre season League games and he definitely didn’t look out of place. He Held his own against some big players.

it a good test for some of our young players

This doesn't give us the full story but South Fremantle have given us one piece of the state 18's puzzle.

Congratulations to Fred Rodriguez, Toby Whan, Max Thomas, and Ryda Luke on their selection in the WA State 18s squad!

A big shoutout to under-agers Heath Wilson, Byron Foster, and Lucas Robinson, who have been named train-ons for the 2025 squad.

Training kicks off this week, with trial games in May and the National Championships beginning in June.

Well done to all the boys – we’re proud of you!

35 currently in squad, plus 8 train ons and 5-7 spots available over the next month. 13 new players.

And don't worry train-on players can play in the champs and often have done for WA in the past due to form or injuries.

Is this the same list as announced earlier in the year, or a new revised list? From EF, I remember Ramsay, Mohammed and Nomlatyu were in that list, but no Carrello. Surely Carrello comes in and Mohammed drops out on current colts form? Plus with Ramasay indefinitely out with injury, sadly he drops out as well. Where is this list? ...as I can't see it the'WAFL page.

Just announced yesterday by SFFC

Sam Swadling is a classy mid/fwd with a wonderful sidestep and the clarity of mind and agility to calmly create space for himself in congestion when seemingly there was none to be found.

Tall enough to compete in the air at 187cm, he is often a valuable asset up forward but has spent considerably more time in the midfield in 2025 as evidenced by his 23 disposals in round one, 36 in round two and 30 in round three.

A timely player in focus video from noobermensch and his Footy Stuff youtube channel as we are expecting a WA 18's squad, rumoured to be 43 players (including train-ons), to be named either today or tomorrow.

Don't forget to click on the youtube button to give the video a like and leave a comment. I will be for sure.

I know many would like to see the full squad and I guess it's in the public domain now that South Fremantle have revealed that they have 7 players in.
