Well deserved Weddle. Great game to watch. Freo fans losing there minds on twitter that Amiss didn’t get it makes it all the more sweeter.
Something went amiss with the process.

If we can cop that Weddle medal thing this has to be allowed!

He played how we'd hope CJ would play - strong overhead, running hard, covering the field and playing with dare.
That us exactly what CJ is renowned for, just down on confidence and has being carrying an injury. The more line breakers in our team (CJ, Weddle, Mitchell, Day) the better. We are all going to love watching Weddle tuck it under the wing and run like the wind for years to come!

He's got that Danny Ric infectious smile! Always looks like he's enjoying himself.
Seems like a good kid.

I missed the game on the weekend but there was a period of play against the Dees that showcased what he could bring in the future.

In the first 3 minutes of the second half he had 4 touches including a goal, an intercept mark and about 120 metres gained.

I think his a very good talent spotter just not sure on the trading side.
Got judged very harshly for not spinning shit into gold, I feel. History will look far more kindly on his trade work than you think.

A lot of Kouta to his game. I love his potential and could absolutely be anything. The skies the limit with this kid. He has all the tools to be an absolute superstar. Back, mid and forward. Listening to his interview with Twomey he obviously has the real drive to be better and is a competitive beast. Music to our ears.

Hopefully we can get more kids like him in the next draft
Kids like Weddle are extremely rare. He is 191cm/92kg and still growing, has elite endurance running and genuine leg speed, is more than capable overhead and by foot and reads the play like a 200 gamer. There is very little chance we will have access to that kind of package in the next draft (or any other draft for that matte). He is not an ordinary high draft pick.

So the question is why 17 guys were picked before him

Because he was an "undersized defender". Not sure too many were convinced with his ball use and movement around stoppages, he had really locked into that shutdown defender last year. He was a great defender, but I'll admit a mature-bodied lockdown who's reliant on athleticism to match up with talls isn't the most enticing drawcard. I'd compare him to Ginbey early in the year, good medium defender but when he got moved into the midfield he became a top 10 pick. Only thing was Weddle never got that move at CTL or State level, they didn't need another wing/midfielder and a lockdown defender of his calibre would win them more games.

Indeed.
Some are hoping for a I.Smith/Blicavs
I'm hoping he's the next Kouta.
We know he can run around, but if he can dominate packs down the line like Kouta did, he'd go very close to emulating the great man.
We know Weddle is great in 1 on 1 marking contests, so the hope is not misplaced solely on his athleticism.
The guy is already putting in the kind of performances that took Kouta 2-3 years.
