Europe War in Ukraine - Thread 4 - thread rules updated

This is the thread for discussing the War in Ukraine. Should you want to discuss the geopolitics, the history, or an interesting tangent, head over here:

If a post isn't directly concerning the events of the war or starts to derail the thread, report the post to us and we'll move it over there.

Seeing as multiple people seem to have forgotten, abuse is against the rules of BF. Continuous, page long attacks directed at a single poster in this thread will result in threadbans for a week from this point; doing so again once you have returned will make the bans permanent and will be escalated to infractions.

This thread still has misinformation rules, and occasionally you will be asked to demonstrate a claim you have made by moderation. If you cannot, you will be offered the opportunity to amend the post to reflect that it's opinion, to remove the post, or you will be threadbanned and infracted for sharing misinformation.

Addendum: from this point, use of any variant of the word 'orc' to describe combatants, politicians or russians in general will be deleted and the poster will receive a warning. If the behaviour continues, it will be escalated. Consider this fair warning.

Finally: If I see the word Nazi or Hitler being flung around, there had better have a good faith basis as to how it's applicable to the Russian invasion - as in, video/photographic evidence of POW camps designed to remove another ethnic group - or to the current Ukrainian army. If this does not occur, you will be threadbanned for posting off topic

This is a sensitive area, and I understand that this makes for fairly incensed conversation sometimes. This does not mean the rules do not apply, whether to a poster positing a Pro-Ukraine stance or a poster positing an alternative view.

Behave, people.

They totally are fascists.
No one has debunked me here.
Just about everyone in the world has debunked your propaganda claims which are near word for word Xi and Putin talking points quoting biast pro Russian sources.

At this stage, the only question people are wondering is if you are just deluded or being paid by Xi or Putin.

Your ideals about working class are commendable but you just keep supporting the talking points of dictators who are the worst on workers. It creates the impression that your beliefs are just another way to divide the people defending against Putins unprovoked aggression.

As if Russia would accept NATO troops on its border, after starting a war to prevent this from happening!!
This would be news to all those NATO countries bordering Putinia.

The entire North Korean contingent of roughly 12,000 personnel currently in Kursk Oblast may be killed or wounded in action by mid-April 2025 should North Korean forces continue to suffer from their current high loss rate in the future. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated in early January 2025 that 3,800 North Korean personnel had been killed or wounded in Kursk Oblast.[6] Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov stated on November 5, 2024 that North Korean forces were engaged in "small-scale" clashes in Kursk Oblast, but Russian milbloggers began claiming on December 6 that North Korean forces were participating in more significant combat operations.[7] North Korean have therefore likely suffered roughly 92 casualties per day since starting to participate in significant fighting in early December 2024. North Korea reportedly transferred roughly 12,000 North Korean personnel to Kursk Oblast, and the entirety of this North Korean contingent in Kursk Oblast may be killed or wounded in roughly 12 weeks (about mid-April 2025) should North Korean forces continue to suffer similarly high casualty rates in the future.[8] South Korea's National Intelligence Service (NIS) stated on January 13 that so far 300 North Koreans have been killed in action and 2,700 have been wounded in action in Kursk Oblast.[9] North Korean forces will likely continue to suffer a larger ratio of wounded to killed in action - as is typical for armed conflict - and it is unclear if or when injured North Korean soldiers return to combat.

Or just have them on ignore. I did recently (and its the only poster I have ever put on ignore) and now I don't have to sift through rubbish troll posts. Made it a better experience.

In the end the more that do it, the more they will just be someone yelling at clouds.
I did make a point of responding to him, and I'm pretty sure he now has me on ignore.

Putin: We're concerned about the encroachment of NATO on our borders, so we're going to invade a sovereign European nation!

Finland and Sweden: Uhhhh we previously had no desire to join NATO but we sure as hell do now. We're in.

Moldova: Russia still has troops within our borders, and tried to rig our election. We're very interested in NATO too

Georgia: We're not going to say it out loud because we don't want Russia to invade us again, but uhhh... privately we've expressed some interest in joining NATO...

Maintaining & holding territory in Ukraine isn't doing any favors to the Russian federation. With Ukraine still to receive help from allies on the battlefield Russia will always be able to grind away at territory simply by throwing 5 times as many troops as Ukraine can do at it.

If Putin was actually accountable to anyone Russia would've withdrawn ages ago. The ongoing battle of attrition has left Russia in a terrible state, the ruble is ruined and it is becoming more isolated the longer the war continues. Being forced to make alliances with North Korea and Iran is severely embarrassing for a state that wants to be a power geopolitically.

The only way Putin will stop involuntarily is once the Russian federation is absolutely bankrupt and simply can't afford to continue the war. Less like is Putin overthrown and / or assassinated.

Yup.

And for what?!

Portions of Eastern Ukraine that you'll never be able to hold, and that don't want to be Russian territory?

Just an historic own-goal by Putin.

Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory target "industrial enterprises that produce ammunition, missile parts, or dual-use products are targeted for destruction," Syrsky said, adding that oil refineries serve as regularly military targets.
russian strikes on Ukrainian territory target civilian sites!

Ukraine has managed to progress in arms production, with the country producing about 33-34% of its annual weapons needs — up from less than 10% before the full-scale invasion. Europe and the U.S. supply more than 60% of Ukraine’s weaponry, with each accounting for about 30%.

Syrskyi said that Ukraine is working on developing its own air defense systems

Yes Ukraine is also developing their own air defense system which they are hopeful can be comparable to Patriot.

I think the answer to the question: Has Russia really produced the 2nd greatest military in the world, is fast becoming a resounding yes.

Now that Ukrainian forces are in Kursk, Russia isn't even the greatest military in Russia.

Former British diplomat Tim Willasey-Wilsey drew comparisons between Trump’s upcoming peace negotiations with Putin with that of Neville Chamberlain and Adolf Hitler in 1938 in his RUSI report.

[Ben] Hodges said the West would be “naive” to think that Putin would not break any peace deal and launch another attack on Ukraine and even Nato allies on the eastern flank.

“They’ve never lived up to an agreement and unless there is a very strict compliance and protocol in place… we should not be naive about Russia living up to whatever the agreement is.”

And Hodges warned that European countries in Nato still don’t have enough air and missile defence systems to defend against a Russian strike.

Hodges said the only way to end the war would be the “destruction of Russia’s economy” ...
