Europe War in Ukraine - Thread 4 - thread rules updated

This is the thread for discussing the War in Ukraine. Should you want to discuss the geopolitics, the history, or an interesting tangent, head over here:

If a post isn't directly concerning the events of the war or starts to derail the thread, report the post to us and we'll move it over there.

Seeing as multiple people seem to have forgotten, abuse is against the rules of BF. Continuous, page long attacks directed at a single poster in this thread will result in threadbans for a week from this point; doing so again once you have returned will make the bans permanent and will be escalated to infractions.

This thread still has misinformation rules, and occasionally you will be asked to demonstrate a claim you have made by moderation. If you cannot, you will be offered the opportunity to amend the post to reflect that it's opinion, to remove the post, or you will be threadbanned and infracted for sharing misinformation.

Addendum: from this point, use of any variant of the word 'orc' to describe combatants, politicians or russians in general will be deleted and the poster will receive a warning. If the behaviour continues, it will be escalated. Consider this fair warning.

Finally: If I see the word Nazi or Hitler being flung around, there had better have a good faith basis as to how it's applicable to the Russian invasion - as in, video/photographic evidence of POW camps designed to remove another ethnic group - or to the current Ukrainian army. If this does not occur, you will be threadbanned for posting off topic

This is a sensitive area, and I understand that this makes for fairly incensed conversation sometimes. This does not mean the rules do not apply, whether to a poster positing a Pro-Ukraine stance or a poster positing an alternative view.

Behave, people.

Some chatter about Putin and when he was last seen with another person or group of people in a room.

His most recent video address seems to indicate an AI generated Putin speaking as parts of his body does not move during a 10 minute speech.

The first four minutes are about this and RT admitting to fake newscasters for their fake news.

Yep. Not seen publicly since Nov 7.

Probably hiding in his bunker.

If that's to be believed, 5% of Nth Korea's soldiers sent have been incinerated and they haven't even fired a shot yet.

Also Lt General Valery Solodchuk was the commander of the 36th Combined Arms Army.

Here's another video of the ICBM that wasn't

Again you can see 6 main groups of strikes with apparently a number of submunitions separating out. Certainly they are not guided. So after the hysteria in the press what can we say:

  • it's liable to be inaccurate
  • there does not appear to be any explosions related to the war heads so either they are kinetic or failed to detonate (there are significant issues keeping things intact in the lower atmosphere over Mach 10)
  • it will be a very expensive way to deliver a very modest effect. I hope the Russian do divert resources into mass producing them, as they have threatened, because it will be a waste of resource's in a military sense - see historical parallel with V2.
  • it doesn't appear to use a hypersonic glide vehicle like the Avangard
  • the concept is terribly dangerous because the launch may be misinterpreted as a nuclear strike. Even the dumb Russians realise this and told the US they were going to launch it and it wasn't a nuclear weapon.
  • the concept is old and has been considered by the yanks a few times but has been rejected for the reasons mentioned above.
  • it's nothing like the potentially game changing PRC anti-ship ballistic missiles like the DF21 etc

So what is it? A terror weapon. It's use is more for propaganda rather than actual military effects. Mr P is pulling yet another page from the Nazis, as this is used much like the V2 was during WWII. He showing himself to be quite the copy cat, in many ways, of Hitler, isn't he?
Terror weapon seems a stretch, kinetic and looked pretty accurate, probs targeted at a missile production facility and only 2 civies injured.

Does pose an interesting proposition for any Euro nation that chooses to send troops, anywhere in Europe can be hit by a non nuclear weapon. Obviously not in mass production but was a surprise weapon for most I'd think, looked like the 'rods from gods' thing the US was fooling about with.

Ship missiles threaten a carrier group but that's not Russia's primary concern. Did look pretty terrifying to my eyes and I don't think anything could intercept them(unless on/near launch). The evac and sandbagging of Euro/US embassies in Kyiv suggests they also were a little worried

He gave a speech. Not exactly known for their theatrical hand gestures the Russians.

He probably died of cancer 2 years ago right?

I'm sure you agree that it's better for all if he ends up in his bunker like that other empirical dictator did ending WW2 in Europe.

It certainly looked like his hands were nailed to the desk. Perhaps the bloke who operated the Lenoid Breznev doll for all those years is back to

It's a terror weapon by your own words. It can't hit anything with any accuracy. It's to terrify civilians especially European politicians.

If we are talking about reach, there a good reason Mr P's gone to ground, most of his favourite haunts are within reach of the longer ranged western supplied missiles.

Russia could strike cities in Europe now, without the new 'wonder weapon'. There isn't enough air defense to give every city layered defenses, to combat all attack types. Russia knows though, as soon as they do that, they are getting hit back much harder. They are struggling in Ukraine. Putin isn't suicidal enough to think 'Yeah, let's see if the American's are as much bullshitters about what their equipment does I am, let's really see what hundreds of F-35 stealth fighters, plus a bunch of B2 Stealth bombers can do to Russia'. As all Russian threats, it's Putin hoping the West folds to his weak hand, as they did repeatedly in the past (and still do, by not giving more equipment now).

Putin knows a nuclear strike isn't going to help him, he just relies on the likes of Scholz and Jake Sullivan to be scared enough to slow walk aid, as they think he would.

As you said it's a blatant attempt at copying Hitler's V2 rockets propaganda. Accuracy is poor which obviously does not matter when it is being used to fire nukes.

Also, Russia only has an inventory of 25 RS-26 ICBM missiles (down from 26 after one was fired). Firing such a missile as a kinetic weapon is absolutely pointless. If anything it is another sign of desperation from Putin to fire such an expensive missile with very little end result.

Putin will also be getting roasted by his superior commanding officer President Xi for firing this too.

Wouldn't have mattered anyway as according to you Ukraine has been on the verge of collapse since day 3 of your dear leader's special military operation. Shame Novosti had to cancel the publishing of Putin's glorious victory speech where Ukraine was going to rejoin mother Russia's empire with your mate Putin the hero for achieving greatness.

One of the Pro-Russian nuffies on the NMFC board thread posted this tweet and... I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

That's a ****ing cooked brain take from that person.

"If Russia nukes Ukraine, I'll be mad at NATO!!!"... what?! GTFO.

Too many people are so stubbornly dug-in to their pro-Russian positions that they refuse to acknowledge that it is Russia that started this conflict, Russia that has continued it, and Russia that is the only party threatening nuclear action because Ukraine is defending itself too hard for their liking.

Jesus Christ... so flipping stupid.

Caitlin Johnstone is a deeply unserious person and the same can be said for anyone who follows her. They're the biggest proponents of US exceptionalism going around because they can't comprehend anyone but the US (and their allies) having any geopolitical agency. All they do is start from the conclusion "America bad" and work back from there.

Let me guess - said poster also quotes The Grayzone, Tusli Gabbard, Alex Jones, Aaron Mate, Viktor Orbam, Jackson Hinkle, Tucker Carlson etc etc with regularity?

You have to be next level cooked to blame NATO for Putin nuking Ukraine.

Yeah you know the type.

The only reason to be mad at the US and NATO if Russia drops a nuke was not supporting Ukraine early enough and hard enough to force Putin to drop a nuke earlier (like he would in any event in this world) or to back the **** off

Person in the tweet is an idiot

S400 system is a huge loss to Russia. They cost $500 million each.

They only have 50 of them stationed all over Russia. Ironically they withdrew units from Kaliningrad (so much for Putin having a problem with NATO) and redeployed to Ukraine.

Ukraine have reportedly taken out 4-5 in the current war.
