How did ____ go on the weekend?

Why not consult the Alesana Player Video Database.

Claremont with a 53 pt head start against our reserves is absolutely wild. We will keep it within 30 for sure.

4 games in and a few things I've noticed:

The good:
  • Our offense is actually in pretty good shape we have key forwards who will hit the scoreboard when provided with opportunity
  • The inside 50 counts have been relatively even so we are getting plenty of looks forward
  • We are getting hands to the ball enough.
  • Out AFL listed players are actually on the park in good numbers.
  • Shanahan has been a huge bright spot.

The Bad:
  • Defense is HORRIBLE. Players able to get the ball from D50 to FWD 50 way too easily.
  • Players standing 10m off their opponent all the time.
  • Massive lapses after half time, particularly the Third term is becoming a bad habit.
  • Barnett is not a Ruck, Fwd or Defender.

For this match First half was excellent. 3rd and 4th QTR Annihilation.
Grego learning how to handle extra attention as a mid.
Hall has to get better with his disposals. 40%DE and only 3 clearances as a inside mid is just not good enough.

Even our WAFL side lacks midfield rotations ffs.

Allan, Petch, Rawlinson should be full time midfielders if thats the squad you are naming. Allan not playing midfield is just bewildering at this point...

People in another thread going on about how many midfielders do we need to draft.... A minimum 8 is my answer. 4 for the AFL team and 4 for the WAFL team....

Gross our best.

HJ good, so creative by hand and cracks in so hard for his size. Cannot fathom how he doesn’t get a look for Mini’s gameplan soon.

Hall found plenty of it but unfortunately when he finds it he also has to be the one to use it.

Bailey won’t get a game off of that, over to Flynn to keep the gig now.

Shanahan faded after a ripping first quarter but is so smooth, great hands, never fumbles. A steal.

Livingstone grew into it as it went on and worth persisting with.

Bazzo very hard at it and clean, was the best of the KPDs and built off a nice week last week. This could be going somewhere for him.

Champion worked hard and unselfish to a fault, should be having more shots to be honest but set up several goals and chased hard.

Grego (Geggo) quiet but not as invisible as the comms would have you believe. Seemed to be tagged early.

Petch fine but not great, again nowhere near what the comms decided to harp on about.

Brock looks the goods. Edwards had his moments, as did Jamo, but again the KPDs just get inundated so it’s a tough ask. Happy for Jamo and got through much better than expected after the huge layoff.

Allan invisible after a red hot start. Needs to play midfield, no sense using him as a rebounder. Either it’s us or it’s him but he doesn’t get it often enough in that role to use his power and burst. Chased hard.
agree with all your comments, I only watched on TV and that's what I saw.

Hall gets plenty of the ball but his disposal by hand needs lots of work, he either turned it over or gave to a teammate not in a better position.

Hard to understand how good Brock is from that game, has some serious ability with his disposals and reads the play very well, but seemed to be in and out of the game.

Bazzo looks the goods an good on him, there is a player there if he gets a good run with injury.

Looked like they were playing Allan of the HB line and spending long periods on the bench? When he is around the ball he looks really classy and exciting?
They are my questions for those who were there and could see more of the game?

I've been as big a critic of the wafl set up as anyone, and losing comfortably even with 16 afl listed players is probably as much proof as we need that it will never really work.

But we're not on our own. This is Richmond's ressies coach after losing by 118

That’s an anomaly for Richmond. Going in to that game they were 3-0 and playing against a club with AFL listed players.

They have a very successful VFL program. Won the flag in 2019, and have produced alot of MSD and SSP talent in the last couple of years.

That’s very different to a club like ours who has a hat trick of wooden spoons and is once again at the bottom of the ladder.

The thing is the AFL listed guys aren't really looking at level above at all.

I feel like it's a bit of playing for themselves to stand out.
This. Some huge concerns. Other than Shanahan and Bazzo everyone else looked like a WAFL player.

You’d hope for guys pushing their case to look a level above, the mids lowered their colours, so did the backs and the forwards.

Though Tommy Gross looked very good, I though he was our best and certainly a cut above WAFL.

He looked good. No slight on Gross, but I thought he was the third best midfielder on the ground after Bolton and Rodgers.

The last couple of weeks we saw Flynn and Cole come back to the WAFL and look a level above. They weren’t just among the best for us, they were the dominant players on the ground. I wouldn’t put Gross’ performance at that level, but still think he had a good game.

They’re the type of performances we should be demanding before you get an AFL call up.

Bazzo understandably looks very slow.

Decent ball in air but once it's near the ground he flounders.

Thought only HJ and Gross can be seriously considered.

Thought Malakai was nippy which could be handy.

Rather see Malakai zipping around i50 than Long tbh

I’m surprised on your view of Bazzo’s game.

I thought he has been better than expected since he came back, and today was a big step forward. Won some critical contests when he was 1v2, was strong in the air and when he was running up the ground thought he had decent pace.

For me he’s currently our 2nd best KPD after Gov, slightly ahead of Brock.

Yeah Bazzo has probably been in our top 3 or 4 the last 2 weeks.

Wasn't having a go just feel like he's too slow for AFL
That’s what i meant. I’d never contemplated his speed being an issue before…. I’m just curious because it’s the first I’ve heard or thought about it.
