either moving to the AFL program or ?

Might get an idea at final training this week. Maybe promotion to line coach unless he is moving on. Would hate to lose him altogether.

Thanks Fraser for coaching the VFL Pies, all the best to Andy Otten going forward.

I kinda agree...

I think we need to do better than Crocker. No sure he's provided a lot this year.
Very inconsistent, but using him one out in the goal square didn't help.
Can’t remember any game Crocker made any impact in 2024

Though did not look 100% at all in 2024

I see Southport kicked 190 points in VFL finals today. Any draft options amongst them ?

It shows VFL success is possible if you invest in it Not sure why we continually stuff it up

Looking at their line up. Quite a number of ex afl players

Southport kicked 195 points against Frankston who have been great.
Frankston went to QLD last week and beat the Gold Coast reserves by 3 points in the wild card round. Unfortunately, they had to go back to the Gold Coast to play Southport who got hold of them. Not easy for semi professional footballers to travel to QLD back to back.

I don't think recruiting mid 20's players from Southport is going to be the way forward for the oldest list in the AFL.

There are 6 teams still alive and only 3 are aligned - Bulldogs, Brisbane and Geelong.
3 non aligned are Southport, Williamstown and Werribee.

Gold Coast beat Werribee in last years grand final. Hoping Werribee can win it this year

Not sure how legit, but saw a comment on twitter that Ryan Sparkes unlikely won't be coming back to vfl next year. Going local full time.
Hoping that's not the case. I felt he had a good year, one of our better performing vfl players this year.

Must have a Big Offer to do that as well not planning to try and get on a AFL List

What went right: The season started well for the Magpies with a strong away win over Sandringham at RSEA Park in the opening round of the season. They then fell just short of preliminary finalist the Brisbane Lions on the road in Round 2 before edging arch-rivals Carlton by a point in a thriller. Ned Long and Jack Hutchinson impressed in the first part of the season and were picked up in the AFL Mid-Season Draft, with Long promoted by the Magpies and the West Coast Eagles swooping on Hutchinson. They extended their 130-year record of not losing at the Swinburne Centre and then stunned the Lions in the rematch at AIA Centre to send Josh Fraser and Campbell Lane out as winners.

What went wrong: Everything in between. The wheels completely fell off as the Magpies lost 12 matches in a row through the middle of the season. They were the victim as Coburg and then the Northern Bullants broke long losing streaks, but the low point was the 83-point hammering from Carlton in Round 17 that ended up snapping the Magpies out of their malaise. Injuries to the AFL list didn’t help – they got 103 games less service from the senior squad than last year and had to use 19 debutants compared to last year’s 11.

Summary: After making the second week of the finals last year, slumping to 20th was a surprise and major disappointment for Collingwood supporters. There were excuses, including limited AFL player availability and not playing as many games at Victoria Park as originally hoped. But they did get important games into youngsters such as Harry Demattia, Tew Jiath, Ed Allan and mid-season draftee Iliro Smit that will serve the club well into the future.

Grade: 2/10

They will struggle again this year I think

That being said I can see a core group not getting a lot of senior opportunity and playing together every week

Hopefully they build some cohesion as the year goes on

And the kids develop nicely

I think it'll depend on injuries, as I felt thats a big thing that impacted our vfl side in 2024.
But next years squad looks to be quite different, so it'll be interesting to see how they go.

Assuming we pick up a few good vfl players should be a pretty decent group with a good injury run.

I reckon we're more interested in developing our players rather than worrying about winning in the VFL. Is it a good thing, I have no idea

Our VFL team isn't doing either. Recently it's been a holding pen for the bottom half of our list who spend a few years there before being delisted. Might just be the nature of things, but it hasn't been the place to watch our future players. Josh is the only one of our senior players that I can think of who played a fair bit of reserves footy for us. After their first year at the club, I don't think anyone else other than Cox would have played much if any reserves footy for us.

Hopefully Allan and a couple of others can buck the trend.
