It has been confirmed this afternoon that Billy Barrot, Richmond's fine centreman from the 1960's, has passed away aged 72.

Barrot was part of arguably the best centre line to ever play, alongside Francis Bourke and Dick Clay.

Was traded to St. Kilda for Ian Stewart in 1971 and ended up at Carlton unsuccessfully.

Vale.

I remember him playing with Richmond, and what a player he was. I recall one match he was switched full forward and booted 8 goals. He came to the SANFL in 1973 as captain-coach of West Torrens and kicked a monster goal that must have travelled 80 metres, possibly longer.

RIP

Spent a long night talking to him at a birthday party a few years ago.
Definitely marched to the beat of a different drummer.
But a very, very good footballer.

Centre circle. Drop kick. Goal square. Goal. or point. or biffo. Great man.

Sad Day. I knew Billy quite well through the printing industry. Always came in for a chat while trying to sell the lastest product. He loved the Richmond football club and his horses. As a kid I remember him as the coach of Oakleigh in the VFA. He coached the way he played, hard, tough and never took a backward step. RIP Bill

Sad news.

Also known as being the victim of Sam Newmans infamous slap to the head, which they constantly show on the footy show to take the piss out of Sam.

RIP

RIP. One of the greats from a great era.

Was the Richmond Team of the Century centreline the only team of the century line (from any club) where the players all played with each other ?

A true champion of the game - up there amongst the best the game has ever seen.

He won the 1967 Grand Final for the Tigers. Put it this way, if he wasn't playing in that match, Geelong would have won. He received ALL the best on ground votes for that iconic match.

And he was an inspiring person as well. Hope there is a little bit of Tigerland up there in heaven for him and Tommy.

Best way I can describe him is as being a lovely fella.
He was a customer of mine in banking and I loved having a chat with him, didn't talk a lot of football but he couldn't stop talking about horses.
Seemed to be a very honourable bloke.
r.i.p. Bill

Beames-Smith-Mueller (Me) 93 games
Cordner-Barassi-Spencer (Me) 55 games
Coventry-Regan-Rumney (Co) 48 games
Bourke-Barrot-Clay (Ri) 46 games
Aylett-Spencer-Dugdale (NM) 31 games
Curcio-Hughson-Stephen (Fi) 9 games

The Adelaide and University teams have a few contemporary lines due to the short time frames involved.

Definitely one of my favourite non Carlton players from that era.
I still have very strong memories of his magnificent running drop kicks streaming out
of the center of the MCG during the halcyon days of the Tigers.

He was truly a big game super star of the 60's and early 70's.
