we should give lalor #4 right away instead of #55 in case we win the premiership next year, wouldn't want to miss out on that opportunityNot bad for a life member....
I couldn't give a **** about numbers. I don't get why so many people care. It's just a number to identify a player.we should give lalor #4 right away instead of #55 in case we win the premiership next year, wouldn't want to miss out on that opportunity
what if it's the only premiership he wins in his career and then swaps to a lower number, never to reach glory again !

Give em which ever number they want. No one would that Lalor was #4 if he was delisted in 3 years. Well maybe the number nuffies....
Don't think it's relevant whether the fans care.I couldn't give a **** about numbers. I don't get why so many people care. It's just a number to identify a player.

What's relevant is that the players care what number they get. Hardwick knew this hence made'em earn it.
If you've ever played footy then you know most players care about their number.
Hope we offer lower numbers to Campbell, Lefau, Brown, Mansell maybe a couple of others. If the newbies earn the respect of the group then they'll have the same opportunity to upgrade in years to come
Might want to check when Cotchin and Riewoldt were drafted, and when Dimma came to RichmondHardwick made "some of them earn it"
Cotchin and Riewoldt went straight to famous numbers.
The facts are, for these kids, most of the numbers available are from 3 time premiership players. No bad numbers available.
Weren’t they before Hardwick’s time?Hardwick made "some of them earn it"
Cotchin and Riewoldt went straight to famous numbers.
Could be wrong but pretty sure Hardwick implemented the high numbers for draft picks post 2010, i.e. after he arrived.Hardwick made "some of them earn it"

From memory Cotch had his own controversy around his number as well when he refused to take 17 off Newman after Cotch was given the captaincy that had become a bit of a tradition for the captain to wear 17Might want to check when Cotchin and Riewoldt were drafted, and when Dimma came to Richmond
..but not forgottenHardwicks gone.
Brown already has a big number for the club, being Francis Bourke's. Should keep it.Don't think it's relevant whether the fans care.

Dusty was given 36 for 2010 so I think it was something implemented that first offseason.Could be wrong but pretty sure Hardwick implemented the high numbers for draft picks post 2010, i.e. after he arrived.
And there's plenty of high numbers available
