Anyone been to Detroit? Got a public holiday next month and keen to escape Toronto for a few days. Probably head to Chicago but haven’t been to Detroit and wouldn’t mind a few days in a new place.
I've been to Detroit. Granted it was a long time ago- 2001, 2003 and 2012. Latter doesn't really count, stayed overnight in the suburbs. 2001- stayed in the city for a Stevie Wonder concert. Had a fantastic time. 2003- drove in with friends for a baseball game.

Fwiw felt safe at all times and had a great time.

Annapolis is a great place to go if you aren't on a backpackers budget.

I went there on a day trip when I was staying in Maryland, it's the capital and where all the rich people go for a seaside holiday.

One of my mates works for Ford so he goes there a few times a year .
They actually lived there for a few years too.
They loved it . Like everywhere there are pretty rough spots in and on the outskirts of the city .

But they recommend as a place to visit .

Pretty good, not sure it'll be the best during worst part of winter but you can find things to do. Head to Ann Arbor for the day like someone else ITT has, the Henry Ford Museum is probably in the top 3 of museums I've been to, really cool.

Great city full of real down to earth people!

Plenty to do in the city centre and surrounds (corktown, eastern market ect), Royal Oak is pretty fun too.

Best time to go would have been during football season unfortunately, ford field has a real buzz about it. Should definitely try get to a red wings game though.

If you need any bar/food/coffee recommendations let me know!

What did you get up to in Corktown? I didn't find too much except some really really good BBQ and a decent bar for a few beers
Righto. So Suggest me some good eats and places to go!

Also just realised i'm staying right near the American Pickers place lol. Definitely checking that out.

Mate just walk down Broadway as early in the day as you feel like and drink in bars with live music until you've had enough. It's that good. Just like any other city of that nature the locals you meet from there don't go there, but who cares it's so much fun. I had Hattie B's Hot Chicken which is one of the more well known hot chicken places in Nashville which was very good.

East Nashville is where the “cool” more indie venues are, sorta like the Northcote/Thornbury of Nashville. The Pharmacy does good burgers and beers in EN. The basement east and the five spot are two good local venues that have great original music most nights. In downtown, Broadway is fun but its cover band mainstream country stuff, and of course tourist central. Peg leg Porker for bbq, which is in the Gulch.

Same as above. Obviously go to Broadway to experience it all but it does get a bit too hectic on the weekend. East Nashville is where the locals go.

Peg Leg Porker for bbq. Get the dry rub ribs and then finish it off with some apple pie. Also go to Arnold’s Country Chicken for your meat and 3.

Thanks for this. Unfortunately looks like the NBA and NHL are both off for all star/four nations but still seems like there is plenty to do. Any of the bar/food/coffee recs would be much appreciated!

Went to Memphis/Nashville over the holidays. Didn’t see a lot in either city, mostly went to sporting events or bars. Went to a grizzlies game but they thumped the raptors. Big night in Memphis after. Went to a bowl game in Nashville and spent a Sunday at Barstool watching football. Walking along Broadway with all the people in town for the game or just visiting Nashville in general, absolutely fine women everywhere I looked.
