MM, I don't have time to respond fully as I have a job int early tomoz but check out Trek America who also do tours. More on the adventure side than Contiki but IMO much more fun. www.trekamerica.com

Will try and provide more USA info on Sunday. Cheers.

Can you also give a better idea of your interests, budget, timeframe for trip etc (or just pm me).

I've only really been to southern California in the US so can't help you out much there. I've been to Canada quite a bit though. Not sure how much time you have but the following places are great:

- Vancouver
- Inside Passage
- Rocky Mountains (Banff, Jasper, Lake Louise)
- Thunder Bay
- Thousand Islands
- Quebec City
- Montreal

Depends what you are after really.

Have to do Vegas but don't do it with the Contiki Tour. I had a friend who did it - they had to stay in a dodgy motel off the strip (which featured on that COPS show). Those tours don't stay in great hotels - if you don't stay on the strip in Vegas, there is no point going.

Fly there yourself on the way home, you will have much more fun.

In the West:-

If you can I would recommend their National Parks - Glacier/Waterton NP which is on the border of USA(Montana)/Canada(Alberta) and only a couple hours drive from Calgary (which isn't that far from Banff), Yellowstone NP (Wyoming), Yosemite in California (a few hours drive from San Francisco) and the NPs in Utah (Canyonlands, Arches, Bryce, Zion and Monument Valley) .

San Francisco is a great city and the drive from LA to San Francisco along the coast has good scenery. Seattle is worth a visit and only a few hours drive from Vancouver and last but not least Las Vegas (do it yourself and stay on the strip)

In the East:-

Washington (for the Smithsonian)
New York (the city that never sleeps)
Boston (for a bit of American history)
New Orleans (for party time)
Toronto (closest major city to Niagara Falls)

Places I've been to that I can recommend

Key West FL
San Francisco CA
Las Vegas NV
New York NY
Washington DC
New Orleans LO
Denver CO

+ Vancouver

I have lived in Seattle and been to LA, San Fran, Vegas, Orlando, New York, Boston, Washington DC and Vancouver. I love Seattle (but I am biased) but my top three cities are Vegas, Washington DC and Orlando.

Accomodation is getting better for Contiki.

The Las Vegas accomodation for Contiki is now at Harrah's on the strip.

Which is a significant upgrade to American Best Value Inn which was the motel you described.

I know that they have also upgraded in New Orleans too. The hotel is now a couple minute walk from Bourbon St compared to the Garden Districts which was about a 15 minute trolley to Bourbon St.
