Another great example of why Trump is doing what he's doing with tariffs. I heard an example today from someone in the Netherlands. A 2025 Ford Mustang can be purchased in the US for $40,000. In the Netherlands, what do you think that same vehicle will cost a Dutch new vehicle shopper? $120,000 - This is after the BPM tariff, VAT and everything else is piled on. You think this is free and fair trade?

Yeah Trump tariffs raising prices for Americans will definitely fix this.

Oh, Trump said so did he? Thats fine then :tearsofjoy:

Nothing to see here then I guess, just the Secretary of Defense texting military plans to a Signal group chat he didn't know the membership of in direct contravention of policy. Could happen to anyone really :tearsofjoy:
He should have checked the contact list, yes, and he’ll be sure to do that in future (if they even use that system again) but he didn’t add the number. Waltz accepted the blame, whether for himself or a staffer is doubtful.

I had dismissed the claims that the Biden admin endorsed the use of Signal for government comms as being surely untrue. Yet, to my astonishment m8, the very first page of this Biden-era comms manual explicitly references and encourages its adoption.

Not only does the Trump admin adhere to the guidance set by its predecessor, but it also upholds its election promise to be the most transparent admin in history, going so far as to invite a journalist from the opposing political camp to observe its proceedings. And still, some manage to find cause for complaint m8.

The only conclusion one can come to is our woke leftie types are whack jobs.

This revelation hurts and distresses me, especially considering some of our thread regulars fit this description.

It gets me right in the feels, ya know?

Did you know he lost almost 10 kg in the 2024 election campaign? Compare the bloatedness of his face in this video from 10 years ago.

So you're tracking his weight now?

This is getting really weird man.

This is getting really weird man.

I saw that video yesterday when I was trying to pin down when Trump first started talking about tariffs because that was one of the points I was makling in a response to one of Jatz14's posts. That 2015 video was the earliest I could find until I found a tweet from 2014. Anyway, when I watched the video I couldn't believe how bloated his face was compared to now so I looked up to see if he's lost any weight.

The example I gave was illustrating the harm to the US manufacturer of the present uneven playing field. For the American consumer Trump is doing stuff like this.

Except strong economies benefit from open trade, it's weak economies that resort to tariffs, and that's generally just a domestic political response to the voting public being both uneducated economically and susceptible to voting for magic pill economic solutions.

Where there has been industrial growth behind a tariff wall, it's always been associated with a multitude of other significant stimulus and/or economic circumstances favouring that industry.
To the point it's unclear what affect the tariff had.

Trump sees everything as zero sum. And trade isn't, that's the whole basis of growth for the last century and a half. The 18th century notion that trade was a winners and losers prospect. In that mind set, putting a tariff on everything made sense, but it was abandoned, because it's wrong.

Put aside that it's Trump whom I loathe, it's still bad policy, whoever does it. Republicans, Democrats, America, Australia, India, it's dumb.

And prior to Trump coming out and whining, it's so unfair, they are picking on us, I suspect the majority of the people now applauding him knew it. They are just so far up Trump's arse, their brains turned off.

Canada might have made a mistake even with the tit for tat tariffs, that's how dumb tariffs are. Canadians are so pissed of at the US, punitive tariffs aren't needed anyway, Canadians don't need prices of American goods to go higher to stop buying them.

The US is as we speak resorting to tariffs. Are you arguing that the US is a weak economy?

Um, weren't you arguing the US should be more like the strong tariff economies, like India?

This was like, 2 days ago. Surely you remember?
