I wish ESPN would stop broadcasting football. It's beyond crap.

I cannot agree anymore, the commentary is pathetic, the coverage is bloody shocking and i am pretty sure they sometimes give scores (if that is a bad thing) to those who might wanna watch the next game as a replay/delayed). The quality is so damn poor I seriously don't have a clue why, it is better than nothing but I wish we could enjoy the games in decent quality.

No shit he can't, I posted it else somewhere but his statistics are amazing, something like in 14 games he has 8 goals and 11 assists for the gunners so far this season.

Good win again.

Watch the tape again. I was really disappointed with his (Arshavin's) ball usage - he coughed it up time and again. Almost a liability going forward.

In fairness, maybe this was due to his work rate that you've mentioned. Maybe also, extrapolating on that, he needs to get fitter and more accustomed to the demands of playing in a top European club who plays 60-odd highly competitive matches a season.

Or maybe he'll come out next weekend and hammer home a hat-trick.;)

Well, maybe a hat-trick of Assists.:D

Team news vs Wolves

Van Persie claims player of month award

Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has scooped the Barclays Player of the Month award for October.

Dutch hitman was rewarded with the Barclays accolade after scintillating month that saw the 26-year old score five goals and set up another two as the Gunners went through the month unbeaten.
Van Persie notched up his first goal in the 6-2 win over Blackburn Rovers at the Emirates Stadium, drilling a low shot beyond Paul Robinson after fine work from Cesc Fabregas.

This was then followed by the opening goal in the 3-1 win at home to Birmingham City. The flying Dutchman was again instrumental in the 2-2 draw at West Ham United, scoring the opener before delivering an inch-perfect corner for William Gallas to nod in a second for the Gunners.
Van Persie completed his impressive month by netting a brace in the 3-0 victory over North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, taking him to seven Barclays Premier League goals for the season.
This is the second time that he has won the award, having previously claimed the prize in November 2005. The decision was made by the Barclays Awards Panel, which includes representatives from football's governing bodies, the media and fans.

Did anyone else know that or am I just delayed with the news

Arshavin

Great player Wonderfull Talent but for Gods sake get a new Goal celebration , looks like a real tit with that Schssss nonsense , he even does it when he scores at The Emirates !

Hopefully chelsea and manu can draw.

You'd be better off hoping for a Manchester United win. They're not on Chelsea's level.

If you're going to fight for the title, it's going to be with Chelsea.

We started pretty bad until Song came on and like balanced things out for us, thought he had a great game. Ramsey was good but lacks the killer touch - his final ball is off a few times and looks a bit off when going forward too much but the lad is young and will only get better he will be a very good player. We could've won that like 10-1 but 4-1 is fine considering they missed a few chances at the beginning. I think Eduardo needs more time to get back into it, he missed a couple chances, although he was alright, he was lucky to get that goal (well, own goal) as it wasn't even going in and ramsey was free next to him i think. We dominated play in the second half and its funny to think that half was 1-1 considering they did nothing and we set up so many chances that we wasted, lucky we were already up 4-0 anyway.

I know it's silly to say any negatives but I was pretty disappointed that we conceded, I knew we were at some stage but it is still disappointing, I think Verm ducked to like give a clear path for Almunia to grab it, wasn't the best idea but yeah haha.

I am liking Gibbs on that left back, dare I say he will be better than Clichy and some things he does are already better.

I know it's tempting fate but things are really looking good. I was especially pleased with Rambo's game this morning.

West Ham game aside (still got a draw) we are doing the business in away games against mid to lower placed sides, a huge factor in winning the premiership.

Our depth is the most impressive thing. It has looked poor the last couple of years but a few players have really come on. Having a look at our squad depth:

Keepers- Probably an area where we would gladly trade depth for one premium keeper. 3 or 4 decent keepers but neither at quality expected for a top European side.

Central Defenders- Luckily our depth hasn't been tested with Gallas and Vermaelen being ever presents. Suspension and injury are sure to strike and hopefully Silvestre and Senderos are decent enough.

Full Backs- Sagna ard Clichy are quality first team left and right backs and I think Eboue and the ever improving Gibbs are strong deputies. As much criticism as Eboue gets, I think he is great squad player.

Midfield/Central Midfield- Look, we probably rely on Cesc too much as a playmaker and will struggle to be contenders if he is out for a sustained period of time. Outside of that I think our depth is strong. Song stock's have risen sharply this year in an anchor role and Rambo was very pleasing last night. Nasri, Diaby and Denilson can also seamlessly fit into our 3 man midfield.

Attackers/Forwards- I absolutely love our depth in this area at the moment. I know RvP isn't highly rated by a few quality posters on this thread but I think he has been great this season (noted that our style, formation and the role he has all help to make him look good). Arshravin, Walcott, Nasri and Rosicky provide us with great depth in attacking mid/wingers/forwards. Eduardo can look a bit lost in the new formation but at the very least he provides a dangerous decoy alongside RvP. With his finishing and smarts, the opposition can't afford to give him much room. I am also happy with Bendtner as a back up.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
I guess the question is whether the depth is good enough when it is truly tested. It's a lot easier when the side is going well and depth is only being tested short term and in more peripheral roles but when the heat is on, how will we go with replacing Gallas/Vermaelen or Cesc for a few games?

My reactions of the game:

Diaby is one of the most inconsistent players in the world. You could make a highlight video of all the mistakes he made in only 20 minutes. Rambo is so much better.

Talking of Rambo, doesn't he remind anyone else of Fabregas from around 2005/06. Always putting in maximum effort, looking for killer passes but doesn't always choose the right ones, couldn't header you the ball to save his life and sometimes takes a little too much time on the ball. He played brilliantly and Fabregas has now cut the mistakes out, lets hope Ramsey does the exact same thing.

Gibbs is a gun. The reason I think he is currently better than Clichy is that he has an amazing way of getting past opponents. Sure, Clichy can get past opponents but more often than not that is through a team-mate helping him with a nice pass or the opponent making a crucial error. Gibbs has it worked out perfectly, as he knows exactly the right moment to run full speed. I think he may be a tad faster than Clichy, which helps as well.

Vermaelen has somehow impressed me even more, his tackling today was absolutely brilliant.

Fabregas has 9 goals and 13 assists (in all EPL and UCL), if he keeps this up he may well be the first player to reach 40 assists in a season (not sure if anyone else has done it).

This might sound stupid but I think Cesc is probably easier to replace compared to our CB's based on our current squad.

I pretty much agree. Cesc's loss be be shared around by more and superior quality players. Gallas/Verm out means Pip or Silvestre comes in and Verm/Gallas has to pick up a bit of slack. Cesc out means Diaby/Nasri/Denilson/Ramsay comes in and his creativity can be somewhat replaced by his replacement and/or attackers like Arshravin.

Okay, I have been sussing out the whole African Cup of Nations problem because frankly I am worried about the team without Song (to a lesser extent Eboue).

The competition runs from January 10th to the 31st.

Our matches in January are:
2nd FA Cup Round 3
6th Carling Cup Semi Final Leg 1 (assuming we beat City-*****)
9th Everton Home
17th Bolton Away
20th Carling Cup Semi Final Leg 2
23rd FA Cup Round 4
27th Aston Villa Away
31st Man United Home

Now, he probably wouldn't play in any of the FA Cup matches and considering we played against Liverpool in the Carling Cup and Wenger played Eastmond rather than Song, it is a clear indication that Song wouldn't play in either of those matches.

That leaves 4 EPL matches, 3 potentially dangerous ones.

He could bet back early, it all depends on how well Cameroon do in the competition.

How important has Song become? Damn ACN. :thumbsd:

Could it play a part in whether we go after Vieira? Perhaps we could even go down the path of a short-term loan.

Us being this worried about him missing a month is a huge sign of how much he has improved. Kudos to Song and Arsene for having so much faith in him (still would have preferred for him to spend some money though!).
