Interesting read the Stengle thread on the Cats board...

I went and had a read and I found it really interesting that 98% of the posts didn’t mention his history, and the majority all went down the drink spiking route. Admirable support but a little naive.

An AFL footy player who overindulges in booze, fails to hydrate, and has to be taken to hospital should have some penalty. Or am I just pearl clutching? If he wasn't such a good player, would the Cats suspend him for a game or two?
I imagine you'd feel totally ratshit after that which is a punishment.
And then the club would probably give you a whack for doing it in-season. Yeah, have a drink, but drink yourself into hospital is another thing entirely.

In fact you'd think most clubs would issue some kind of suspension/punishment if that happened. And that you wouldn't front up to training the same day. So... something else happened.

Running laps I guess that's fronting up to training.

Just the normal then.

If this had happened when he was with us, the AFL would already have a person in Adelaide investigating. We would have stood him down for the rest of the season and offered some draft pick sanctions.

I honestly can't believe there is not more being made about this with the AFL media! What the heck. Either spiked or his own doing it is actually a big story either way.

Yes but mind you after reading their thread it seems like if you go out in Victoria it’s guaranteed you will have your drink spiked. Some of the Geelong supporters have had it done multiple times….umm what.
How about don't leave your drink without keeping an eye on it...

... or not taking illicit substances before having your beer.

I think being done by the cops for possession is less of a big deal compared to being unconscious

Surely it isn’t that common or maybe I’m old
Drink spiking does happen, but not sure how common.

When 1st came aware of it, just made sure to keep an eye on my drink or a mate does of in need of a pit stop.

What is the purpose of spiking someone’s drink and why would it be done to Stengle?
Men have done it to women to get them drousy for sex.

As for doing to men, not sure, but perhaps just for kicks.

Does happen though, so must be a reason why they do it.

Btw, I don't believe Stengle's drink was spiked...

If it was true, wouldn't there be some evidence? Blood test at the hospital? Urine test?
A person brought into hospital unconscious would definitely be tested for what drugs are in their system.

If he was spiked (which I doubt) it is a big story.

If not, AFL player taking illicit substances on a night out is not a big story at all.

The only time the AFL media does anything about it is one there is photo or video of a player doing it and it can’t be swept under the rug.

Personally, I don’t think it’s up to the AFL to police what players do on a night out. As long as it’s not in their system on game days then to each their own. What does bother me is the faux outrage, particularly from people who would be fully aware of what the reality is.

The key words here are “found unresponsive”. That’s the rough equivalent of a high impact concussion on a footy field. What were the medical advice…sure, you can train the next day, go ahead!…?

How the GFC not ensuring him to rest the following day instead of training is rather baffling. The AFL in the least should get a “please explain” because there seems to be 2 ways to approach this:
  • medical issue: needs to be rested instead of training
  • drug-related incident: needs to be penalised and not be training.

I personally think its an absolute joke he is playing this week.
Got a feeling he may be a late out... but you would have thought the AFL would have ruled him out for a week like a concussion case.
