Kevin Bartlett, Royce Hart, Dick Clay and the families of Jack Dyer and Skinny Titus should feel insulted by that.

It's actually pretty disrespectful to the history of the Richmond club and your club legends for Mini to say that.

More clarity and appropriate perspective required.
i dont see whats wrong with saying a triple premiership captain MAY be the most influential player in a clubs history

your poor posting in this thread is just nasty and as bad as the op's

He said he might be.....and he may well be. No issues with it at all.

Lol

Cotchin is not much better as a player than Wayne Campbell or Matty Knights, he lucked out captaining 3 flags (2 against mediocre opposition in The Crows and Giants too)

Doesn't make him an all time great.
Can cop the Giants one, they were cooked by the time the grand final came along but crows? They were the dominant team of 2017. Finished top of the ladder with a percentage of 136 and won their two other finals by an average of 50 points. Crows were absolutely the best team of 2017....until the grand final.

Shit post is shit.

Didn't hold Cotchin as high as other midfielders in his time.
The three flags, though a great achievement, was still a little advantageous of the comp at that time.
The Brownlow, I dont think was deserved, as I still give that to Watson.

But no matter what people say about him, credit where credit is due, he was a great leader of that football club.

Midfielders are usually a precious bunch and he sacrificed his game for the betterment of the team.
That team first characteristic, proved what a great Richmond leader he was.
Hard as nails, great leadership qualities and three flags.

Richmond supporters would have loved to have him and Richmond players, would have loved to have played with him.
What more could you want.

Great career and will be in Hall Of Fame and deservedly so.

Feels like just yesterday he was starting out. Life really is short...

How is it nasty saying I don't believe Trent Cotchin had as great an influence at Richmond as Jack Dyer or Kevin Bartlett (amongst others) ?

Those are two iconic names in a historically great and famous club.

Sometimes it's easy to forget about the legends and champions who came before the current generation.

Anyhow TC is clearly loved and revered by Richmond supporters/diehards and that's all that matters in the end really.

I'd argue Jake King was as talented as a footballer as Trent Cotchin at Richmond

I would also put Joel Selwood ahead of Cotchin tbh

Voss not as skilful as Cotchin.

Someone’s hurting. Just think… he could have been a Blue.

There's countless great and memorable moments in Cotch's time at Tigerland, but unquestionably my favourite came early on in the 2019 GF.

All week the footy media and social media had been bunking up the Giants, rallying all the impartials onto the "big big sound" etc. All the keyboard warriors on social media prattled on about how "Big Mummy" was playing his last game and would go out in style by taking down a few of Richmond's key players early on to ensure a Giants win.

Hardly 10 minutes into the first quarter though, as Mumford took possession of the footy just inside the centre square, Trent Cotchin steps in and absolutely buries the big bloke with a superbly fair and crunching tackle. The big Giants ruckman didn't know what hit him, and never really recovered for the rest of the match, nor did his teammates.

Cotch gave away at least 20kgs and 10cm in that (and many other contests), but didn't hesitate to lay one of the biggest grand final tackles in living memory, and set the team on a course for his second flag as skipper in three seasons.

Love your work Cotch.

lost to a drug cheat, the drug cheat was stripped of the medal and Trent was deservingly awarded the medal on the back of having the highest votes in an award based on the "best and fairest".

I think people would actually think of him in higher regard if he had rightfully been awarded the medal on the night. Same with Sam Mitchell. its a massive shame they were beaten by a cheat on the night.

Nah.

Was happy with Kreuzer, was just terribly unlucky with injuries.

It's impossible to imagine him winning a flag or Brownlow at Carlton, let one three.

Our entire club was a basket case during MK's career.

I won't remember Trent as a captain or player. Not really great enough to stand out.

However, I will remember him as having the fortitude to push back against Hardwick's selfishness.

The Cotchins stood by the real Mrs Hardwick during her husband's deceitful adultery as he abandoned his family.

Cheers Trent and Brooke.

I'm not sure too many expected Cotchin to develop into the hard nosed, inspirational captain (he was always a great talent) that he did, but he certainly achieved that.
In 2013 (after a great 2012 season where he fell short in the Brownlow) when he attempted to become our Gary jnr by attempting to accumulate more disposals, to perhaps try win that elusive brownlow, I knew he was going the wrong way about it because he was never going to be as damaging with his kicking as Gary jnr was, he wasn't a great kick Cotchin.

I was saying to everyone at that time that Trent was playing selfish and needed to become more hard nosed and in that way lead us by example. So while I can't say I knew he would become this "hard nosed, inspirational captain," I did know that that's what he had to become, thakfully he figured it out for himself later. Better late than never I guess.

Remember, they tanked in order to get pick 1.

and then took Kreuzer. :roflv1::roflv1::roflv1::roflv1::roflv1::roflv1:

So ?

Terry Wallace admitted Richmond tanked In 2004 and passed on Buddy twice (for Deledio and Tambling)

Also overlooking Pavlich for Fiora was extremely embarrassing too
