Ok.... so because one player showed clean hands the others clean hands are overrated? Don't really see the logic there.

Not sure why the comparison with Daicos anyway, they're both quite different players. I'm not convinced that Brown will become anything more than Thomas currently is either.

Thomas is an average player.........not sure how I can explain that to you any other way.

The problem is he will be a 26 year old average player next year.

It's time to move on from players like him.....just as it is time to move on from Sinclair and Sier.......they had their chance we need to move on. I call it the Gault theory.

If we are deciding between Thomas & Brown you know my irrelevant vote.

I don't think that choosing between the two is necessary, at least not yet. There will be enough players on the chopping block come the end of the year without gratuitously cutting players who have actually performed decently.

Well getting the ball delivered by a decent midfield would help. Collingwoods midfield is three times the class above the Eagles.

We have the worst forward setup in the league & allow spare defenders to dominate us. Unless we have a new coach it wont matter who we bring in.

Gaff averages 30 nothing disposals a game. No hurt factor at all. Why do you think WC posters are floating his name as trade bait? He's not that great, and he really doesn't fill a need for us either, so why would we pay through the nose for him? Makes no sense.
Quality outside mids are a pretty pressing need for us imo. Other than Sidebottom, there is no one on our list who comes near him as an outside mid, and no young blokes coming through either for that matter. Maybe Hoskin-Elliot could get there but right now he gets about 15 disposals per game less.

Gold Coast want ready-made players, correct?
Mayne for Lynch is fair-ish. They should really throw in Saad as well to make it worth our while.

Jokes aside GC want midfielders, and as l have posted before this is one of the most important trade and draft period in the clubs history. We need to be aggressive and adventurous.
If we were able to get a trade request from Lynch to come to us, we would need to seriously look at trading a Sidebottom.

Darling cops a bad rap because of his woeful performances on the big stage.

The way he plays as a key forward fits pretty well into the modern game - runs around a lot, applies a lot of defensive pressure, and is a beautiful set shot. Put him in a good kicking team and he's a pretty good player.

Degoey to GC

Why don't we get McVeigh and make him a playing assistant coach so that we can sack an assistant coach and save some money on the football department tax. Ditto any veteran player who is half decent and has coaching aspirations + 1/2 a brain.

They'd want Sidebottom + our first at the very least and that is if they let him go at all. Basically, if they lose Lynch after losing O'Meara the club will fall apart. The GC won't let it happen, the AFL won't let it happen. It's a pipe dream.

I don't think we have anyone with presence who could be a strong captain. I do think he is a good leader though.

Interesting distinction you make, between a 'strong captain' and a 'good leader'. While this is not the thread for it, I'd agree that Pendles is more of the latter than the former. Leads by example, etc, etc, but is not a big forceful presence on the field. Is that the modern way? BTW, we still miss Maxwell onfield.

Is it the modern way? Just look at Hawthorn's defence without Hodge

Would rather push Maynard up on a wing than recruit Gaff. If you're going to pay a premium for an outside mid you want them to be damaging. Gaff gets 30 nothing disposals a game. Do not want.

I think there is one main reason why Hoskin-Elliot has progressed this year and we all see him as one of the positives. Game time. He's played every game so far and will play out next week when we crush the dees!

All of Brown, Daicos, McLarty, Sier, Sinclair, Aish and Broomhead have missed through injury and had interrupted or ruined seasons. So difficult to gauge the players based on those performances. Sier aside the others have all shown things at different times but still need that time to settle and progress.

It's clear some players might or do need a change but for the majority of the players that have stagnated they've all had significant time off the ground and they can't kick goals from there.

Glad that we've got 20 odd games (incl VFL) out of Shaz this year. He'll be better for that. He just needs to be instructed to kick long now and get the ball moving forward

Was rubbish against the Cats.........we owe him nothing now.

Again I will state he will have NO say in our next premiership.
If we delisted everyone not in our next premiership side we'd probably only have 15 players on our list.

He's also more talented than Blair, who made our premiership side.

He's not getting a contact because we owe him, his getting it because his performances has earned that, one quiet game doesn't change that.

Would love the club to go all in on a KPF like Lynch and sign Darling. I think Fasolo and 36/ or maybe a frigne mid type, is enough for Darling, maybe a later swap of picks as well. While both first round picks in 17+18 should really be enough to at least tempt Gold Coast to give up Lynch. Another swap of picks along the line might be needed.
In terms of KPD I think with Brisbane looking like their 'untouchable' KPP's being Hipwood, Schace and Andrews, Dan McStay could be a great pick up and wouldn't set us back to much. Oxley and Smith for McStay and third/forth rounder?? Also would still really like Leslie from GC so he could also be part of the lynch deal?

So basically;
Fasolo and 36 for Darling
First round picks in 17+18, plus maybe a Josh Thomas/Phillips/Broomhead type for Lynch and Leslie
Oxley and Smith for McStay and a forth rounder?

Would mean our forward line lines up as
WHE Moore Elliot
Darling Lynch Kirby,
we can send Reid back to defense and we have McLarty, Leslie and McStay all developing to replace Reid, Dunn and Goldsack all who are about ~30.

Anyone else think Wylie Buzza is a good option? He's only 21. Hes 198 cms. Quite atheltic. Still can improve his game, and he would come fairly cheap from the cats. He could compliment Moore quite well. He's relying on Hawkins or Stanley not playing to get a gig at Geelong. I'm sure we could offer him more job security than that.

I also wouldn't mind Jake Neade from port Adelaide. He seems to be there 20-25th player. It'll be interesting to see if he gets dropped for the finals for Impey. He would come cheap too.

What's going to happen with our Ruck situation?

Grundy yet to sign, even though it was apparently supposed to be done weeks ago.

Cox is clearly a number 1 ruck, really loved his game on the weekend, but can't see him sticking around to play 2's and the odd game at FF in the ones.

Hypothetically would Cox's output match that of Grundy's over a season? would we be 10% worse off? 10% better off or much of a muchness?

I love Grundy but obviously his trade value is far greater than Mason's.

If the net differential of Cox being Number 1 ruck is minimal compared to Grundy, maybe it's time to start being ruthless.

Not if the player wanted out.
