Sierra Grieves (Western Jets / Vic Metro)

Sierra Grieves had one of the most illustrious top-age years one could hope for, finishing 2024 as the AFL Women’s Under 18 Championships’ MVP, All-Australian, Vic Metro MVP, Coates Talent League and Rookie Me Central Team of the Year, and Western Jets best and fairest winner just to name a few.

STRENGTHS:
  • Production
  • Contested work
  • Defensive pressure
  • Consistency
  • Forward craft
  • Clearance ability
  • Footy IQ
IMPROVEMENTS:
  • Polish
  • Kicking under pressure

SUMMARY:
Sierra Grieves is such a well-rounded player, and while defensively she is elite, offensively she is just as good. Her outside game has developed, while her inside game and work up forward has always been brilliant. They say hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard, and Grieves works harder than most, but also has a stack of talent. A easy first round prospect who has earned the right to be in Top 10 conversations.

Excellent selection , just watched highlights, natural mid, finds the footy , handles it well and nice kick , strongly built too so ideal replacement for sheerin
Great pick, comments were she would have gone top 3 pick in any other draft, this deep draft a bonus getting someone so talented with our pick where it was.

Bit annoying that there’s no pick tracker in the AFL website. I never listen to the broadcast as it’s too painful (both men and women drafts)

Zoe Hargreaves, not a tall, good size though at 172cm, more outside then an inside player but another quality midfielder.

SNAPSHOT: “Hargreaves is a powerfully-built utility who has played across all three lines and shown her burst speed from stoppages as well as her understanding of the game.”
Zoe Hargreaves was a player who made plenty of people take note last year in her debut Coates Talent League Girls season. Having not played at the level prior to that, the bottom-ager made up for lost time, producing a super year which culminated in her representing Vic Metro – and impressing – against the Allies, before being named in the Vic Metro hub for 2024.

STRENGTHS:
  • Power
  • Speed
  • Contested work
  • Reading the play
  • Aerial ability
  • Versatility
IMPROVEMENTS:
  • Kicking precision
  • Composure
PROFILE:
Zoe Hargreaves' game is built around her combination of power and speed, particularly from the stoppage. She reads the taps well and can burst through gaps in congestion to win the ball and kick it long down the ground. Her bodywork allows her to outmuscle opponents, while her speed leaves them in her wake.

SUMMARY:
Zoe Hargreaves is a difficult player to try and predict where she lands. On paper she is around that second round mark because while still having areas to improve, has a lot of traits that really catch the eye. In an even draft crop, she has the power and speed, and should certainly be off the board in the third round if not before given those abilities.

she's a utility at 177cm..........has played on all lines

SNAPSHOT: “An ultra-athletic tall who has played just about every role on the field with strong hands and a willingness to use her speed to full advantage.”
Zoe Besanko is a player with the foundational base that gets AFLW clubs excited. She is still raw and developing areas of her game, but the athletic side, along with her natural leadership will standout to recruiters and fans alike.
Fast forward to 2024, and Besanko was thrown around in a variety of roles, adding inside midfielder – and even defender on one occasion – to her CV, making the Stingrays tall an ultimate utility. She also captained the club, and shouldered the extra ruck rotation

STRENGTHS:
  • Athleticism
  • Speed
  • Marking
  • Groundballs
  • Versatility
  • Leadership
IMPROVEMENTS:
  • Kicking
  • Strength
PROFILE:
A real point of difference for Besanko is her speed, particularly between the 5-10m mark where she seems to gain another gear once in motion. She is very good at getting the tap down to a midfielder than bursting away to receive the handball forward and bombing it long inside 50. Her range of kick in terms of depth is very good, and can travel long distances.

SUMMARY:
Zoe Besanko is undoubtedly a raw, but talented tall with an athletic base that catches the eye. She has areas to develop to round out her game, and it will be fascinating to see where clubs might view Besanko’s best position. She could land anywhere in the mid-to-later draft, though athletic talls do come in high demand so her potential draft range could be stretched even further.
Wrong Zoe.
