You pay to get good players in, we’ll find cap space when we really need it. Carlton has built a very nice list seemingly overpaying to bring in quality players. Ship off Lobb and get Stengle is a massive win. Also, bring Eddie Betts with him to come down to WO and coach the forward group.

Stengle at the feet of Marra, Naughton and Darcy, would be amazing.

I think he is essendon bound. I don't know where they're finding all the cap space.
There aren’t many A graders on the Bombers list who would be demanding big coin. They have a lot of B grade role players and they’d just be on average salaries.

They probably overpaid for McKay, but they’d still have enough cap space.

Sydney doesn’t have a salary cap apparently.
After missing out they got a few players in (including Grundy) who arguably make a far bigger difference

Stengel is actually a link player. Watch the way the cats small fwds and talls work with each other. Our game plan doesn’t allow this. I love stengle as a player but it’s our game plan and cohesion as a mid fwd group that needs to change the most

Yep. If we can get a forwards coach that can actually crack the 'one up the rest of you down' and spread the talls up the ground, then we'll be set. Until then we have er um, Spangher.

Hindsight is great, but we really should have made a play and taken Grundy for free and sold off Tim and Smith while value was peaking.

Probably would have got future 1st from West Coast and Hawks last year for Tim and Smith giving us one more year of top end talent before father son plays ‘2025 onward.

Both players were clear flight risks, with a year to go and better bargaining power. Both had also shown us significant flaws in their respective games so it is not completely revisionist to suggest we should’ve have made this type of move.

If we ship off Lobb we also need to ship off another 2 players to afford Stengle.

850k is a little much for Stengle.

Dogs are one of 5 clubs who are chasing Tyson Stengle. Good chance he stays at the Cats but we’re sounding him out for a move up the road to the Kennel.

Grundy's still on more money than English will be in his next contract.

Grundy's also 30 with many years left on his contract. I'd be much more confident in English being the better player next year, let alone in 2027 when Grundy is still contracted for well over a million a year, is 33 years old and English will be at his absolute peak.

I think Melbourne/Collingwood are still paying a big chunk of Grundy's wage.
I could be wrong.

Western Bulldogs pair Harvey Gallagher and Lachy Bramble have extended their time at Mission Whitten Oval, signing beyond the 2024 season.

Gallagher, 20, will remain in red, white and blue for at least the next two seasons, rewarded for playing every game so far this season.

The versatile midfielder has averaged 14 touches and kicked six goals, marking the midway point of his second season in the AFL.
Having been drafted as a rebounding defender in 2022, Gallagher has found himself on the wing or playing as an inside midfielder during a number of roles in 2024.

Bramble, 26, has signed on until at least the end of the 2025 season, showing plenty of speed and durability across his 13 games this campaign.

The 182cm defender crossed from Hawthorn in the off-season, playing every game so far and averaging 18 touches and five marks a game.
Western Bulldogs’ General Manager of List and Recruiting, Sam Power was pleased to have both players locked away into the future.

“Both Lachy and Harvey have played important roles within our side this season,” Power said.

“After suffering some injury setback in his first year, Harvey has shown some really positive signs as a midfielder, with his versatility a feature in his opening 13 games.

“We’re excited to see Harvey continue to grow into a consistent AFL footballer in the years to come.

“Lachy has been a sound addition to our backline, with his athletic traits allowing him to play on some of the best small forwards in the competition.”
