Just on the professionalism piece....I do occasionally like a jar of ale and have been known to frequent a certain pub in Yarraville. On many a school night I have seen dogs players enjoying themselves. I always found it odd that professional footballers would be drinking 2/3 days before a big game...say versus port in Adelaide. 2 of the players I saw played appallingly.

Do we have player welfare people? I'm sure we do. Where are they? Isn't this their job?

Side note now Treloar will gush about Collingwood and Dunkley at every press conference he gives.

My wife knows nothing about footy but she's seen enough of me watching it and she caught onto the Dunkley/Treloar bromance. Earlier this year after one of them kicked a goal and there was a big hug between them she yelled out 'get a room'. 😂

To be fair she's said the same thing about me and my 2016 GF DVD.

Dunkley does realise he can still move to Qld after he retires, right? But then again...........

Dunkley does realise there's players with questionable commitment at every club, right?

Come on champ, just fess up and admit it's only about $$$, and nothing else.

Caro just said she’d heard Dunkley’s view (which he shared with the clubs he spoke to) was there was a group on our list that was serious about winning it and a group that wasn’t.

The thing is, he’s a premiership player who played in a second grand final a year ago after knocking out the very two sides he spoke to, both of which have dubious finals records. What exactly does he think he’ll find there that’s different?

If he was weighing Geelong and Sydney I’d get his point.
All the sh1t talk that Dunkley comes out with is him trying to justify leaving for the most money he can get.
Most of the extra ca$h he earns will be eaten up in tax so unless it is way overs then he just plain and simple wants out of our club. He's dead to me

Well when he was 24 he'd played 10 career games so he certainly was far from entrenched.

McInerney was drafted at age 23. He's never been in the frame for delisting.

Was a pretty good effort to get 10 games under his belt by 24, as he was behind a pretty in-form Stefan Martin.

While I hate the way Dunks has gone about, there’s maybe a few influences in his life that aren’t the best for him.

Ultimately, it’s a pretty big deal and if it means losing Dunks now, but holding on to Naughton, Smith, JUH etc long term, then I’m okay with it.

Dunks is a very good player, but he won’t get any better and we have plenty of depth in the mids currently, plus time to draft and develop some kids.

We’ll be fine.

I'm not sure how you can say Timmy went backwards. Even accounting for some games as a forward at the start of last year, his ruckwork improved immensely.

Tim started well but had a poor end to the year by his early standards ,with injuries again playing a part .

Sweet was apparently sounded out by other clubs in late 2021, before signing on again with us and having a very average year . Even his VFL form became an issue.

If Stef Martin was brought in to speed our rucks development, I’d like to have seen Sweet as a genuine option, English showing consistent signs of greatness and Martin retired.

Once again I’m not blaming Stef Martin for this . But I’m yet to see evidence of his supposed ‘player/coach’ role having a noticeable difference.

It hurts to have someone like Dunks choose to leave, but i think its actually a good thing for our list. Garcia, West, Mclean, Smith, hell even Treloar was played at half back.... We have had a problem of too many mids and not being able to give opportunities to the next gen types. I have real faith that West will go hammer and tongs this pre season knowing there are mid minutes available and potentially could be an upgrade on dunkley.... on top of that we will get some good draft hand in return to boost the future.

Players leave clubs all the time, it doesn't mean ours is a toxic environment because 1 bloke is leaving. Neale left freo, judd left west coast (ok maybe that was toxic lol), jackson is leaving melbourne, lockett left st kilda and buddy left the hawks.

We will be ok.

The biggest concern by a long way is not our list, its getting some bloody good assistants in the door to sort bevo out.

Dunkley is full of it, the extra $1m over the life of the contract makes up 90% of his reasoning the rest is just window dressing. Zero reason to pot the team on the way out that welcomed you back with open arms after the BS he pulled two years ago.

If cultural reasons is such a large reason for his departure then he wouldn't have requested a trade to the rabble that is the Essendon football club 2 years ago. Either the bloke is deceitful or he has rocks in his head.

The piece of commonality between Essendon and Brisbane is that neither club has a obvious option as a captain when current ageing one retires.

Dunkley probably wants to be a captain and it is never happening at the dogs considering Bont is only 26.

Haha. He was beaten by a younger ruck last start.

It’s his trajectory that’s important. Each year he takes another step forward. He’s getting better and better. Yeah he has some shit weeks and gets beaten in the ruck by someone he shouldn’t but damn he has a much more rounded game than t about any ruck other than Gawn. We might be a critical bunch on BigFooty but just about any other team in the comp would prefer English over their starting ruck. There’s a reason the commentators were (earlier in the season before concussion) debating whether English will (in time) usurp Gawn as the premier ruck in the comp.

You are really trying hard to make me laugh.

Looks like you were spot on again mate. Should be an interesting reception at the B&F given the club will be aware of what he’s been saying.

Players who are leaving, with the exceptions of retirement, don’t go to the B&F. I don’t expect to see Dunks there.

Of course it will be. All this beating up on Dunks for not saying anything has been ridiculous. Dunks silence has most likely been at the request of both clubs - clean air for the Lions to get through the finals and a possible Brownlow win and for both to nut out the broad parameters of a possible deal. Just issues management 101 really.
But the club statement said we were disappointed and we'd only just been notified....surely the club wouldn't lie to us in a statement.....

I still remember Leigh Colbert leaving the Cats as captain and getting up and actually speaking, which is ballsy. To say the room was frosty would be a massive understatement. After being burnt twice by Dunkley I doubt our room would be full of well wishers.

FFS, GARD-I-NER.

We already have Gardner...

Sorry, but this is really starting to get me....
Bevo, Bevo oh quite zany,
How does your backline grow?
With Gardiners and Gardners
And a few VFL blokes as well
