Last year we either traded or drafted on-ballers with 4 of our firsts 5 picks when we struggle for height in defense and lack a quality young ruckman or even a project one.
We should have taken another punt on Spangher instead of Chambers and to be fair 15 other clubs also didn't pick Raso or Spangher as projects.

Who were the quality key defenders or ruckman available that we could have taken instead of Blackwell?

Cypher,

I think Spangher's improvement this year has been very suprising - according to those in the know he did not show a lot last year.......didn't know what he was doing out on the ground

That's called a prospective pick as Adrenaline is advocating not me! And Chambers is crap and soft! We should have taken another punt on Hughes's boy Gwilt as it wouldn't have hurt.Cause Denis thought these losses were a thing of the past given our 10 wins against the top sides! Not with guys who don't get the ball or play nothing but attacking footy. :(

An AFL club can only take 1 under age player per draft...........so we couldn't have gotten both Raso & Spangher.

I heard his skills are supreme but that he is a tad soft unlike his crazy old man.

On the contrary........Tomi is hard at the footy, the only problem is he is only about 65kg. The kid has skills and can find the ball, it's just a matter of whether he has a body that can put on the weight.

It was just what I heard, I can't say I've seen him play. Good luck to him!

Who told you that? Actually Blackwell was being discussed as a potential first rounder or at the very least a second rounder.

Blackwell was never going to go first round. Possibly late 2nd round onwards but more likely 3rd/4th round. Players of that size and pace are always up against it. Very easily exposed by opposition midfielders who can push forward.

I can only repeat what was banded around pre-draft and that was 1st round/2nd round.

That's correct. Blackwell was picked up for his skill alone. I'm not complaining though. Pagan normally picks an athlete over a footballer. Nice to see him go the other way for once.

Looks very good in the VFL though...

His raw skill and talent alone should assure he becomes a good footballer.

knowing tomi and him being one of my best mates i can tell you that he is a freak athlete, he is quick but he dominates middle to long distances. hes not a full forward so who cares if he can only do 20m in 3.2 secs or woteva, midfielders are essentially endurance athletes n thats what he is, btw u should check out his legs, most ripped legs ive ever seen, probs cos hes half asian.
never misses a target and has a good grab for his size, interesting to see if he bulks up cos his older brother, marc has got a bit of beef on him n hes roughly 20-21. above all hes got the right mindset to get drafted, think.... the complete opposite of laurence angwin! very motivated, and pretty smart too.
