Tom Lynch gone - QLD Football in crisis?

Think it will be a blessing in disguise.
Me too.

He will be 26 by the time next year starts and the Suns don’t look like they’ll be winning a flag in the next 4-5 years.

Either a star of the side opts to leave, or you, as a club, look heartless, trading out a big asset for something in return.

Blessing in disguise.

The first mistake was calling them the Gold Coast 'Suns'. The suns? Jesus. They never had any hope.

Glad I'm not the only one who hates it. Its my second most hated and shit-house name after the Bears, and followed closely by the 'Power'.

Sorry Port fans, but that name has always made me cringe a little.

After those three comes every single 20/20 cricket franchise name, ever.

Never liked Dockers as a name, it's also really an eastern states term for a stevedore. Over here they are are generally called 'Wharfies'.

Take George Horlin-Smith up there. A good solid workhorse who by all reports is an outstanding citizen and has good leadership qualities, that is likely to never crack a permanent spot at Geelong as the years slip by him.

It comes in next after every singe 20/20 side ever created.

When it comes to Freo, I cant help but imagine a 'name the new side' brainstorming session where 'names that are connected to Fremantle' were getting tossed around. During said meeting, some dude mentions the Fremantle 'Doctor' but that doesnt fly for obvious reasons. No-one wants a side named after someone who sticks his finger up your bum (other than John Hopoate).

Then some guy (who I imagine with a ponytail like some 1980's LA stockbroker) chimes in with... 'wait.. I have it. Dockers. Close enough to doctor, and we're a port town right? The kids will love it! (he pauses to snort his tenth line of charlie that evening; looks back up wild eyed and manic, surveying the room) ...and we'll have a giant inflatable anchor at home games AND WE'LL WEAR PURPLE AND GREEN!'

Probably should have also gone with the Sharks (stolen it off East Freo).

Jokes aside, I really like the recent rebranding Freo have done (new jumper, tweaks to the song, owning the color purple) etc as part of the review a few years back.

Suns could do a lot worse than do the same thing.

They will have some serious cash floating around after Karmichael Hunt (2014) Ablett (2017) last year and now Lynch have all moved on. With the money they saved from those three, they should buy an Island in the Pacific - move there - start an AFL comp and be its first Premiers.

Along with Anthony Miles and Sam Lloyd at Richmond...all too good for VFL level but can't crack there senior sides regulary. These blokes would be desperate to play senior footy each week and are old enough to have gotten a lot of the off field shit out of their systems you would think

Terrible system we have.

Unfair for the players. Hardly benefits the clubs. Really only benefits the media who get to stalk someone every now and then.

The offseason has months to deal with all of this. And fringe players aren't getting contracts until October so let's not pretend it makes any difference for them.

Free agency should be held off until then and any clubs found meeting with or talking to players should be heavily punished with fines and loss of draft picks.

I get that it's made worse by Lynch being injured but it would be a circus regardless. Just has to stop.

The lazy media love their rubbish reporting all year round instead of waiting patiently for a proper free agency bonanza come October.

Then you've got people like Buckley talking about meeting players like he's telling you what he ate for breakfast...

....and you think the Blues is better?

:poo:

Excellent point. LOL.

What exactly is a "blue"?

A color. And 'a fight' in Australian slang.

We were once the Butchers, and then (very nearly) the Cockatoos:

Prior to 1871, when the uniform was predominantly chamois, the club was known informally as the Butchers. After World War II, the club briefly considered changing its nickname to the Cockatoos, but this never formally eventuated;[20] even so, the push was serious enough that newspaper cartoons depicting a Carlton cockatoo were printed around that time.[24]

In before 'you're all still butchers' gag.
