Don't get me wrong Toby McLean is a talented young player; however, one thing that has stood out like dogs balls this year is his high tackle drawing tactics. I for one find it incredibly frustrating that the umpires continue to reward him for yanking his arm up and pulling his head back every single time he gets tackled. High contact is there if there is a poor tackle, but the majority of the frees he draws begin as perfectly legitimate tackle but his tactic of ripping his arm straight up and pulling his head back (see video) imo are against the spirit of the game and the umpires should not reward this.

This year he has an astonishing 18 frees for and 0 against record with almost all of them being for high contact. Stop playing for frees Toby and use your talent to focus on how footy should be played before your reputation as a young player gets even worse.

Him, the AFL and the umpires are equally to blame.

But in all fairness, numerous players do this.

Eventually someone's gonna cop a serious neck injury playing for a free kick and the AFL will have noone to blame but themselves. There is a reason the "too high" rule exists and players putting themselves in danger looking for a free should not be rewarded as it encourages the risky behaviour

I want to see him try it against Lindsay Thomas.

I actually thought Hunter was far worse at this yesterday. Dylan Grimes is also a repeat offender. It's a terrible look for the game and dangerous, the afl should have stamped it out long before it got to this stage .

I don't like it, needs to get it out of his game. Is a very very promising footballer who won't get the attention his play deserves while playing for free kicks as he has been.

They'd just flop into each other endlessly until the world couldn't handle it anymore. It would open a Stargate space/time vortex leading to an oval-island world where no one tries to actually win possession, so there is an endless game of football with Hams, Selwood, Shuey, Christensen, Hunter, Grimes and now Thomas and McLean just flopping about the field in a half crouch, one arm in the air whince-face, while the footy sits in the centre circle and Razor Ray runs around frantically trying to pay frees to all of them simultaneously.
